I Rode Japan’s Fastest Bullet Train — Is It Still Better Than China’s?

yeah I’d say China won Japan nil but I
didn’t expect this i didn’t expect this at all it’s probably the most boringest
train journey though cuz we can’t order food
turn it off you have IC uh no look I get the police hi guys welcome back we’re on
tour with DES if you’re new here we’re a full-time travel couple from the UK we
have a very special episode for you today we are going on our first ever
Japanese bullet train super exciting we’re traveling from Tokyo to Osaka on
the fastest regular scheduled bullet train here in Japan let’s go so we’ve
literally just arrived at the train station and we think if we’re correct
that our train is over there we’ve got How long we got so oh shoot it’s 11:43
and our train’s 10:09 we really need to stop leaving things so
last minute but we didn’t realize we had to get a metro here we had like full
stops we thought we had loads of time but no we had to check out our
accommodation at 11:00 so we’re still pushing it late i think we’re going up
here you’re right there do you want to take
the jumpersha there all right come on let’s go on
through so I think this is the right way to check the boards up here all right
let’s go and check the board here so as I said 120 9 oh yeah third one down so
we’ve actually got a QR code on our phone so we should be able to go
straight through let’s test it out it didn’t work try yours
where’ you do it you have IC card uh no local I get the police car yeah we’re
going to um Osaka yes local line ticket oh
you need a local line ticket yeah can you use um IC card for two people no
i’ve got one she has one can you use it for two
people no I don’t have one i got this i put
this on the ticket yeah you need a local ticket ben ticket yes as well cuz you’re
obviously probably going on the metro or something all right that’s done and then QR code
here oh there then on there thank you
oh god so we forgot we went on the metro so we had to scan our leaving the metro
and then scan our ticket to come through quite confusing i’ve had that problem
before lucky you i knew she meant local ticket and you’re like “Yeah but I
didn’t I didn’t I wasn’t thinking that I had already had a a local ticket.” All
right let’s work out where our line is there should be a sign
oh gosh uh 19 one and two 19 oh god up here go we’re pushing this well late
no time for snacks i thought I had time to go to 7-Eleven and get some snacks
but no we’ve had no breakfast no lunch nothing so we got 19 here and then you
got the carts either side and we’re cart 12 so this side up here yeah goes up
that one goes up as well goes down yeah but see no it’s got different carts 1 to
10 oh don’t argue with a woman then the
escalator goes up but I’m going to let you you grab it yeah but that’s one
people that’s going to come down off the train they got one each side one that
goes up this side and one goes down that side yeah but the escalator goes up so
that escalator goes down stairs next to it but then there stairs next to it why
would we walk up the stairs when there’s an escalator just saying if we’re at the
other car leave it you’re just trying to make an argument there whoa that’s a
bullet train coming through all right so it says the carts above so this is super
easy it’s a lot easier than I thought it would be all right i think the train’s now
changed to our number it’s changed to 359 which is what ours is i think we’re
queuing to go on i can imagine that cuz Japan is very organized so I think this
is I love a queue don’t they yeah no one’s got on the train yet so I’m going
to guess they go around clean it it looks wow beautiful so slick looks
like a snake thin scissor
i literally missed it coming in because I was putting my jumper on so I don’t
know if I caught it quickly on my camera bit annoyed with myself but hey ho all
right it looks like we’re boarding now all going on
oh what i didn’t see this could have got a drink and some ice cream ben I’m
hoping there’s some food on here or vending machines i heard there was
vending machines on there but wherever there is also luggage is going to be
tight i heard you have to pay extra for luggage and we didn’t so I’m hoping we
can squeeze in wherever we are here we go
oh there’s overheads yeah there’s overhead bits that’s all right then what
there’s overhead bits oh yeah so we are D E 9
yeah so we paid extra to have two seats together and we decide that Mount Fuji
is on fingers crossed we see it so that’s a tip pay the extra to put three
seats then you’re not in the free seats imagine have a seat there you’d be well
annoyed that’s the thing if we didn’t pay the extra we’d definitely have the
middle and the aisle nine oh loads of room in front to put the
suitcase yeah just put it in front of me Ben yeah sure don’t want to put it above
head then no look there’s loads of room put that in front of me behind you just put mine up there hun that’s all right loads of room yeah we’re off
oo oh my god it’s picking up speed quite quick acceleration next stop Ozaka with
this train we’re traveling at 281 km per hour it will take 2 hours and 21 minutes
so it honestly pretty quick i am curious to see where the food cart
is cuz I’m absolutely starving
absolutely starving um we’re on cut 12 i’m feel a feeling it’s
going to be in the lower numbers currently this is the fastest regular
scheduled train in Japan they are actually building a maglev train for
this exact route will that will actually do this journey in half the time so when
that opens we definitely definitely got to try it i actually not even sure when
it does open could be this year could be next year could be 10 years don’t know
actually China is the only country with a mag lev that is used for commercial
use and we have actually been on it in Shanghai so go back and check that out
if you’re interested in your trains we’re not even 10 We’re not even 10
minutes into our journey and we’re already stopping just noticed a sign that says free Wi-Fi
never have we ever got Wi-Fi working on any transport planes trains never so
let’s see if it works on air it be a miracle be a miracle
so it says this one is it let’s see if it
works all right it’s connected let’s do the Google test yeah it’s not come up on
the top is it not how do you know if it’s come up
i actually think I’m connected let’s do We always do a Google test so type in
Google yeah you’re working the Wi-Fi works
that’s the first time ever on public transport I’ve ever got Wi-Fi
is there a food car no service no no service at all yes no
no service okay thank you no service what is that i know
drink it i know i’m well wound up i’ve got some um match Kit Kats in my bag oh
yeah all right let’s check out the toilets on here oh god oh
oh god you can feel the speed of it now toilet
oh it’s a lot smaller than I thought it’d be you’re literally on the toilet
as you get in here but we’ve got a western toilet rubbish
sink toilet roll yeah smells clean the mirror here
it’s probably the cleanest smelling toilet I’ve ever been on doesn’t smell
like weed at all oh my god i’m literally flying about everywhere while sat on the
toilet I could feel like I was levitating i swear even this little place is nice sink here i think that’s like a disabled oh
multi-purpose room oh you got to disable oh another toilet
there so look a big one that comes open let’s see how it is
oh the sky is clearing up a bit all right have They’re not serving any food
on here this is literally what we got so we got a bag of the matcha Kit Kats I
got from Donier or whatever it’s called i haven’t tried these yet yeah I weren’t
a fan of them to be honest and then I bought some of these the other day i
think they’re like protein bars or something so that’s all we got and then
a bit of water in that bottle it’s our rations my rations for the journey for
two hours to be honest I’ve not tried these yet so in Japan you’re um there’s
so many different flavors of Kit Kats and it’s just crazy
what it’s green i’ve never seen someone struggle with a
Kit Kat so much don’t eat it like that don’t Who eats a Kit Kat like that
next thing you know he’s going to eat it watch her snap at the fingers i don’t think it’s all that
the match is not really strong though is it oh it’s well strong this is the other
thing we had it looks kind of like a bourbon it’s definitely like a protein
kind of bar texture 80 calories as well yeah you got like three in a pack so if
you’re watching your weight you might as well just put that all in
your mouth then that’s better than the Kit Kat
we need to go back there and get some other Kit Kats cuz I wish I got the gold
one now m Fuji should be any minute now maybe in
the next 5 minutes so we’re about just over an hour away hour and 10
minutes we’ve gone past Mount Fuji and I didn’t see it i’m absolutely fuming i
could cry i’m lied so I’m definitely 100% come back to Japan and I’m just
going to do a day trip and go to all the sites to see Mount Fuji and make sure
it’s on the best weather day so we’ll come back right it’s been there like a
million years R i’m sure it’s not going to go anywhere yeah I know but I can’t
not come here and not see it but this is how stupid we are we haven’t even booked
our accommodation yet so Ben’s trying to find us accommodation um and as I say
we’re like an hour and 10 minutes away and the signal keeps dropping out so yes
yay we might be homeless when we get there i’m going to go for this one it’s
£264 for five nights it’s new so it hasn’t got any reviews but free Wi-Fi
breakfast included and it’s like 16minute walk to the center so I know
we’re taking a risk cuz it’s new but you know at least you got your own toilet
then yeah that’s true yeah your own toilet see it’s our first time in Osaka
so if you are from Osaka or you know anywhere in Osaka or you you’ve even
traveled to Osaka before let us know in the comments stuff to do obviously we’re
totally clueless never been there don’t know
what to do and also let us know good food to try uh good places to get food
beer anything like that local recommendations leave it in the comments
right so we’ve just arrived at Coyoto another popular place here in Japan um I
think it’s about 20 minutes from Osaka which is the next
stop after it i’ve heard this is like another popular place to stop also I was
just thinking and I just saw on the map that Nara is near us so I think from
Osaka to N we can go and bow to the deers so I think we might do that like
one of the days cuz we’re here for like 5 days now so we got quite a bit of time
to explore and do things rian lives on TikTok that’s why she knows so much
about it i can’t wait to bow to tears hey I didn’t see Mount Fuji so I’ll get
to Baders instead deal yeah do you want so we’ve only got about
20 minutes left it’s gone wild quick isn’t it it’s probably the most
boringest train journey though cuz we can’t order food yeah to honest um
yeah I’m really really impressed with the bullet train obviously the speeds
have been mental yeah really impressive train looks
really cool as well a proper like aerodynam dynamic but the uh facilities
haven’t really impressed me like as Ryan says no food car no on on board you
can’t even get a cup of coffee on board yeah there’s no hot water unless we’ve
not looked close enough but we’ve checked yeah
so that’s let it down a little bit for Japan’s trains i’m going to say China is
winning this i’m sorry yeah I’d say China won Japan nil but we have
obviously we can try more bullet trains in Japan and it’s not over all right
i know if you go in the green cart the first class that you can get food in
that but they’re pricey they’re super pricey aren’t they i think they’re
nearly double the price and this wasn’t cheap this was £90 for a 2-hour journey
so that’ll be half the price in China yeah say so China win on affordability
um and facilities and hot water coffee and the trains are and you can get food
delivered all right we’re going to stop there
time we get off look at us actually ready but the
speakers actually speak in English and tell you to start getting up grabbing
stuff and getting ready to get off they don’t hang about rounds they don’t mess
around here in Japan you got your phone yeah
got three bags one two three yeah rihanna’s got to check that on but I am
an adult i do know stuff don’t have to you don’t have to mother me i am no I’m
making sure we have three bags between us cuz I might think or you might think
I’ve got the suitcase and then we both leave it behind it’s very likely between
us so let’s get off this train with no food except for it does have Wi-Fi that
works it went with that oh wow such a cool looking train
all right i have no idea we where our accommodation is as you saw we literally
booked it as we were on the train so we need to sus out how to get there have
you checked how far our accommodation is get out of here we just stopped at our
favorite new coffee shop here in Japan just to re-evaluate and sort oursel out
um we’re just getting rid of our rest ben put it up there and then we got to work out a metro i
think we need a blue line so we’re about 30 minutes away in the metro ben over
there in it blue one this is our new favorite place we love
it so for a tea and a coffee it was £345 bargain that’s like two pound cheaper
than what we would normally pay anywhere else so we’ve just noticed getting on
the metro and getting on the escalator that you have to stand on the right on
the escalator here but in Tokyo you had to stand on the left how crazy is that
but we’ve done one metro so far we’ve got another one to go we’re getting so
confused we finally sused out Tokyo one now we’ve moved to another city but this
place is just so big and so vast that we just can’t find our way around anything
anywhere all right exit exit there’s some light we need to exit and go to
another part I think according to my Google map so I don’t know so we’ve
decided to walk we got confused in there we couldn’t find a line we’re like it’s
40 minutes that’s not far let’s walk with our bags
don’t think that’s going to be clever but there’s so much going on all the
time in Japan that at least we can get to see the streets what’s going on
everywhere and get a feel for the city so it’s not too bad we’ve come to like
an indoor there’s like bars restaurants don’t know looks really cool obviously
like quite local looks like a good place to explore
busaka is known for its night life and good food so we’re going to have a wild
time here it definitely looks like a good spot and I did the spot um the
place he was in yesterday the Eat British Bar there is a uh there is one
here we saw hub physical hub and I got a membership card so that’s an app 5% off
5% off that’s an absolute guarantee that we’ll be there for happy hour i’ve
noticed the taxi they look like the the Ghostbusters carb
what do you do you reckon yeah I know what you mean or you get the really p
posh or you get the really posh ones that look like they should be taking you
to like a 10star hotel even though it don’t exist but local limousine one
yeah look he’s even got white gloves on proper
retro ones i like it i like it already right so according to the map this is
our hotel literally
looks like the hotel if you ever seen the in between us looks like that so I’m
not expecting too good things but let’s have a look
i think it looks closed down but the front should be round it on
that’s the point it does look closed down god this does not look promising i
know all the signs are packed in as well oh it’s an automatic door is it selfchecking oh maybe it’s
selfchecking yeah you got a message or room number let’s have a look
this is well weird yes mate this is so weird what the hell don’t expect this no
hello you’re welcome we have booking yeah yeah yeah thank you
hello hello hello hello um uh today uh two today today from today
is it Is that one three yeah no yeah okay thank you okay
just a moment cuz we have uh we need to give you passport and passport
let’s go let’s go thank you
can you w you
You could have took your bag off then that stuck two people quite a funny uh
Put it on there she seems I don’t know what’s going on ah here’s a check in yeah don’t know
what that’s about please oh sit down yeah top floor yeah penthouse thank you
thank you thank you and that’s our room sold
all right thank you four fourth floor yeah yes 45
404 yes
thank you he’s well excited to see us hopefully
the room’s as good as customer service they were they were really nice yeah i
think we’ll get free breakfast on our first day here sound like Yeah it looks
quite cool seems like quite a uh like a familyun place she like like R said she
seem really excited and it seems like quite a that’s what I like saying in
these places it seems like they they appreciate their guests a lot so
hopefully the room’s okay yeah it says free breakfast in the sign here yeah it
did does say free whoa 40 i’m going to guess it’s the
light flashing one oh yeah yeah so when we checked in there was like
there’s a picture of each each room and one was flashing and now the lights
flashing so it’s like guarding you to your room you’ve got a key ran do you
want it press that button there oh stop there we go
it must stop when you open the door oh look we’ve got a little hallway shoes
slippers oh take your shoes off come on Ben what’s a vending machine for i don’t
know oh wow but look we got a very traditional Japanese room wow it’s like
a little apartment this is cool i love it robes
i love it as well he’s in hers pajama robes ah this is great this is cool we
got a view no no window though no window
a little retro microwave that literally looks like it’s from the 1980s i think
that’s our air con as well it’s like staying in someone’s house
back in the day oh wow oh my god there’s a bath
this is so cool ah look at all the products they left us
bubble even bubble bath this is nice and what I will say is to be honest looking
at all the hotel rooms this was actually one of the cheaper ones i mean with
within reason that obviously you can get host and stuff cheaper but this was
actually quite really quite affordable and I’m actually really happy with it
box a fridge what the hell what is it all it’s not
all free though is it she said there’s a sign there
she did say about you got pay that’s like having your own vending machine
yeah I think so that’s well cool has it got like a bit to insert money in that
sixie time nice no way we’ve got like vibrators and that that’s why Oh they’re
empty they’re empty sorry Ben maybe that’s
what she was apologizing for oh I have spotted a window and I’ve just opened it
i just like a little bit of light otherwise I feel really claustrophobic
and there is AC that wasn’t a heat in there this is lovely oh wa what is this
hope this isn’t a sex toy oh my god it’s a sex toy is it no way
it’s a condom and a Oh it’s a vibrator thing
turn it off put it in the middle sushi
[ __ ] rapid oh my god i just clean
what is all this have we booked like a sexual hotel don’t
know man as long as it was reasonable oh my god i’ll leave you with that oh this is a
band isn’t it what are these we got music is that a
Johnny band yeah Johnny is that free is that compliment there’s more Johnny’s
here what are these oh my god what is this oh eye mask
just need some handcuffs and we’re sorted for the night is that lube what’s
that is it sanitizer oh is it lube
no it’s air freshener oh oh my god this is mental i’ll be honest right when
we checked into this hotel I didn’t expect this i didn’t expect this at all
go and check what that box is out there Ben so this thing on the wall I was like
what the hell is this it’s got like a thing for a car and stuff was it i hope
we don’t have to pay for electricity or anything so I just translated it and it
actually says “Thank you very much for using our store we hope you have a
lovely relaxing time our staff will continue to work hard to ensure that you
you are both safe and everyone is safe on their way
home.” I don’t know what that means satisfied oh satisfied as well um
and it’s got like a member membership card slot so what I’m thinking is maybe
like you can book this room cuz it’s got a thing you you press numbers and
whatever so maybe you can like book it for like an hour or so
uh to have enjoy the toys and uh and enjoy it with
your wife so perhaps we are at like almost like a brothel or something
but it was cheap so I’m not really bothered that was a bit eventful a
little bit surprising to honest didn’t actually expect the hotel to be like
that honestly didn’t even know anything about that when we booked it but we’re
just trying to find a shop and also find some dinner as well cuz obviously hungry
yeah it’s the evening i don’t know if we’re in the dirty area though yeah I
feel like there’s there’s a few of these sort of hotels around here we’re going
to have a great Yeah we’re going to Yeah we’re going to do we’re going to find
some dinner and then go back and try them toys out now
no I’m only joking um yeah I don’t know what’s Yeah I don’t know what’s around
here but um let’s have a look so you see these uh backpacks the uh kids have got
so they’re like I think they’re like bulletproof and like like gas masks and
they’re for the kids safety as well so they’re not just backpacks they’re for
everything so in Japan and they do really think of everything and they do
think of the kids safety it’s quite quite cool to see so walking along we
found this place rian’s just trying to translate it it looks like all of sort
of pork dishes uh I think you’ve got like seafood all with rice and stuff
i think this one that one the pork cutlet one yeah just get two of them two
of them yeah all right i’ll ask him okay hello
uh can we have this one two two thank you uh what’s the difference this one too oh sorry put in there yeah thank you thank you sorry i know you meant to put it in
there but then he did hand it to me after so obviously understand different
customs and that yeah so it’s obviously a fully open kitchen so we can see
everything um it’s quite a cool place though right on the corner here right on
the main road i don’t know like if you realize but me
and Rian proper love street food and we haven’t really found a lot here in Japan
so it’s good to see like this sort of place that we love thank you
yeah thank you bye Ben all right now we’ve got dinner we’re just going to pop
to 7-Eleven ben needs some special juice cuz he ain’t pooped for 4 days so we’re
going to get him some stuff from 7-Eleven i saw on Tik Tok yes I know
five days five days woo 5 days um and he he looks like a beer as a dessert i’ll
get myself a little chill i’m really looking forward to just the chilled
evening in tonight it’s going to be nice so this is the drink you need to get the
fiber mini it’s 120 yen so I’m going to get Ben one it’s only small as well
clear me right out i know thank you very much but if you can’t find it it’s with
like needs quite a bit separate to the other drinks have a look at the choice
of beers you get here so many you can even get like wines spirits
so many different ones but I’m going for the I’m going for Is that your favorite
the 7-Eleven own brand don’t knock it till you try it’s actually all right 200
yen 200 cheap right let’s have a look what we got i’m tell you what right I’m
actually pretty happy with the size and Thomas what a bargain as well
what is that 870 or 90 about that 870 about five wow we got pasta rice chicken
with some cabbage your dessert isn’t it dessert and then you got some soya or
balsamic vinegar yeah let’s just taste each individual thing quick and then
give you an assessment it’s hot considering we walked home look at our
chopsticks they’re like flathead screwdrivers so
I would have put some of that on and tried it yeah I know but Oh man it’s so nice it’s got like that
fish and chip batter on cuz he actually um he prepared this like
right in front of us so that’s how fresh it is
yeah it’s pasta isn’t it it is pasta macaroni is it yum
so is this vinegar open that up yeah it’s like um sort of like a creamy sauce
vinegar yeah vinegar oh wow how good’s that
though that’s a good little meal isn’t it
yeah bro definitely taste that let’s just see what this thing is
oh it looks syrupy oh god it’s all falling apart oh
reminds me of a thing we had in is it Pakistan or India yeah it’s not It’s not
what you think cuz it’s not sweet at all tastes a little bit like Swede oh yeah
i don’t know if you’re supposed to mix it all together anyway good meal and I’m
going to enjoy it but um yeah we’re in Osaka and we have loads of videos come
from here yeah so stay tuned to what we get up to i’m thinking maybe we’ll
explore a bit of the note life it’s very renowned for its note life here in Osaka
also food as well they’re very famous for food i don’t know i don’t know what
we’ll get up to but we’re in Osaka so subscribe for the mini
120 yuan how much you want 20 uh 20 it’s not your
r oh [ __ ] sake travels at 228 move your hand do it again [ __ ] off you
put your punch it’s in the screening bin right we have just arrived at Where are
we cota is that how you say it all right like I said in the last episode you
ain’t got a mic on just saying

We’re riding the Japanese Shinkansen, japan’s fastest train for the very first time.
after so many times times using china’s train we finally have the opportunity to compare the two.

China and Japan both have extensive high-speed rail networks, but they differ in several key ways. China has the world’s largest high-speed rail network, with the most extensive routes and a focus on speed and efficiency. Japan’s Shinkansen, while known for its comfort and punctuality, has a smaller network and focuses on safety and passenger experience.

but who’s is better? let find out!

  2. Eat more fruits like banana mango papaya vegetable and drink more water to avoid constipation. Also do some physical exercise in the morning to get your system going.

  6. Happy to see you traveling to Osaka! Where the world expo is going on right there. Me and my mom went there last month and I strongly recommend you going to the China pavilion if you have plans to go to the expo! I think it was THE best pavilion of the expo. The Japanese high speed railway system (Shinkansen) used to be ages ahead but is definitely starting to show its age. Also, forgive me but it was really funny seeing you checking into that awkward hotel in Osaka. Anyway still wish you enjoy your travel!

  7. The sex industry is very developed in Japan, and you can call high school girls or college students to serve you in hotels. Those toys are provided for them. Tons of the porn videos are shooting in those hotels.
