Hi, I’m Alison. Are you planning a trip to Kyoto? Still unsure about where to stay? Let me introduce the famous Japanese hotel chain, Richmond Hotel. Which one is right for you? Let me help you decide now. In this video, I’ll give you a detailed review of the Richmond Hotel Premier Kyoto Ekimae, which is only a 5-minute walk from Kyoto Station. Aside from showing you the room I stayed in, I’ll also introduce their thoughtful services, complimentary snacks, unlimited happy hour drinks, and their hearty breakfast. After watching this video, be sure to check out my previous one. Because with your room key, you can enjoy free drinks at both sister hotels. You can also compare to see which Richmond Hotel suits you best. Stay tuned until the end for a special recommendation. Now, let’s get started! This hotel opened on May 1, 2019. It’s just a 5-minute walk from Kyoto Station’s central exit. The location is incredibly convenient, making transportation very accessible. Moreover, there are plenty of dining and shopping options nearby. I started my journey to Arashiyama from here to ride the scenic train, then visited Uji afterward. On my last day, I took an early JR train to Tokyo. In the courtyard, you’ll find a serene Japanese garden. With plants, stone lanterns, and flowing water, it creates a tranquil bridge-over-stream ambiance. It’s incredibly atmospheric. The moment you step in, you’ll feel relaxed and at peace. Check-in time is 2 PM, and check-out is at 11 AM. However, if you register as a free member, you can check out at 12 PM. In the lobby, you’ll find beautifully designed Kyoto-themed postcards. They even provide colorful strings so you can turn them into a little booklet as a keepsake— all for free! Nearby, there are also small props perfect for taking fun photos. They’re super cute. Next is the self-service amenities station. The variety is so extensive it feels like a mini shop! Oh, by the way, the hotel doesn’t have a public bath, but they provide face masks and hair oil so you can pamper yourself while taking a bath in your room. Of course, there are also tea bags and coffee. And another type of face mask— isn’t that so thoughtful? . Now, let’s check out my room. I booked a double room, 25 square meters in size. My package included a two-night stay with no housekeeping and breakfast included for a total of 34,000 yen. The space is quite sufficient— you can easily open two 28-inch suitcases. I’m not sure about the brand of the mattress, but it’s pretty comfortable. Next are some basic amenities. A mini fridge, a kettle, and some complimentary bottled water. A slightly small sink area. There’s also an ironing board stored in the cabinet—
is it specifically for pants? If you know, please let me know! Okay, we’ve been spoiled by Japanese toilets in Japan. The moment my husband sat on this toilet, he said, “This toilet doesn’t have a heated seat!” I couldn’t stop laughing. Also, the bathroom and toilet are separate here, which is very convenient. Now that we’ve seen the facilities, let’s look at the food. I’d like to start by mentioning this hotel. It’s one of the higher-end Richmond Hotels, but its average room rates are actually cheaper than its sister property near Karasuma Station. So when it comes to the packages, food and facilities, you can spot some differences. During tea time, they still offer tea, coffee, juice, and some small cookies. The highlight is, you can choose one of the four special desserts. I picked the matcha parfait. It came with a big scoop of Häagen-Dazs matcha ice cream, topped with smooth red bean paste and super chewy, bouncy mochi balls. I can’t believe this was complimentary! Next is what I call the “all-you-can-drink happy hour.” At this time, they add beer, and a variety of sake to choose from. Of course, there are some snacks too. This is my breakfast coupon. The restaurant doesn’t have many seats. I went very early for breakfast, but I still couldn’t get a window seat. These are the usual coffee, drinks, tea, and juices. There’s grilled chicken, grilled fish, tamagoyaki, pork belly, and curry rice. Wow, I was initially worried I wouldn’t like Japanese-style breakfast. But later I realized I loved it 😊 There are also lots of yogurt and jams. Matcha powder, chawanmushi, and that dessert. Steamed rice. Look, they also have soba noodles and miso soup. And this. Take a look. I’ll freeze the frame for you to see. They have shabu-shabu. With shabu-shabu, you can choose beef or fish. It’s so delicious. I ate so many slices. There are also some fried foods and oden. Then, another highlight. You can make your own sashimi rice bowl. Look at that 😳 There are also some fruits and salads. Everything is super fresh. In comparison, these Western-style breads seem underwhelming. Alright, to summarize, I had breakfast for two days. The menus were slightly different. But both were luxurious and delicious. And shabu-shabu was available both days. I ate so happily. I highly recommend booking a room that includes breakfast. Or you can purchase it later. The only downside is if you’re like me and eat too much for breakfast, you won’t have room for outside food 🙂‍↕️ A special recommendation goes to the popular ramen shop next to the hotel building. Every time I passed by, there was a long line. I went in right before they closed at 10 PM. I was their last customer. Just a reminder, their ticket vending machine only accepts cash. Their specialty is ramen with a clam-based broth. It’s sweet, rich, refreshing, and not greasy. Many people come specifically for this ramen. And since we stayed right next door, of course, we had to try it. one bite after another, I finished it all. I couldn’t stop eating, Highly recommended. Overall, we had a happy stay here. Compared to the sister hotels near Karasuma Station, this one isn’t as new, and it’s not as spacious. The service is also, a bit different. But it’s cheaper here. Clearly, the sister hotels near Karasuma Station offer better dining. Especially during happy hour, it has great ambiance. Lastly, don’t forget, with your room key, you can enjoy free drinks at these two sister hotels. If your itinerary involves frequently taking trains at Kyoto Station, I highly recommend this place. Lastly, if you find my video helpful, please don’t forget to like 👍, comment, and subscribe. Bye!
