I am at Omihachiman Station. This time, we will visit Hachiyama Castle Ruins, one of the sequel 100 most famous castles in Japan. Let’s check the route on the map. This is Omihachiman Station, where we are currently located. And our destination is Hachimanyama Castle Ruins. It takes about 35 minutes on foot from the station to reach the ropeway station. After seeing the castle ruins, we will visit Hachiman Park at the foot of the mountain and the castle town, which is an Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings. Let’s go straight away. 【Himure Hachiman Shrine】 You can see Hachimanbori from the bridge. We have arrived at Hachimanyama Ropeway Foothills Station. 【4 minutes to the summit.】 Hachimanyama Castle was built in 1585 by Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Toyotomi Hidetsugu. Toyotomi Hidetsugu was Hideyoshi’s nephew, the son of Hideyoshi’s older sister. In 1590, Hidetsugu was transferred to Kiyosu, where in 1595 he committed seppuku for treason and his wife and concubines were also executed. The lord of the castle, Kyogoku Clan, moved to Otsu, and the castle was abandoned. Let’s take a look at the information board at the summit station. Ninomaru is where the mountaintop station and observation tower are located, and above that is Honmaru. Further on are the Kitanomaru, Nishinomaru, Demaru and other enclosures. We walked around in order. First, the observation tower. The view from outside is nice, but this is what it looks like when you go up to the second floor. We are walking towards Honmaru. 【Substitute Kannon】 The main part of Hachimanyama Castle was made entirely of stone walls. We have come to a fork in the road. Let’s go to Honmaru first. This is the stone wall below Honmaru. 【Maybe it’s a stray cat】 【Murakumo Imperial Palace Zuiryuji Temple Site】 【This is Toyotomi Hidetsugu’s temple】 【Main Hall】 You can get a stamp and castle seals here. This is the view from the highest point of Hachimanyama. We move to Kitanomaru while looking at the stone wall. This is Kitanomaru . In the distance,you can see Azuchi Castle Ruins and Kannonji Castle Ruins. Beyond the heart-shaped monument is Lake Biwa. We are walking towards Nishinomaru. This is Nishinomaru. The view of Lake Biwa is open. If you go down a little, you will find Demaru. Let’s go to the edge. We will descend the mountain and wander around Hachiman Park and the castle town. 【HAchiman Park】 【Statue of Toyotomi Hidetsugu】 【Hakuunkan / Tourist Information Center】 【Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional BuildingsOmihachiman】 We will take a rest here. This is Omi Chanpontei Omihachiman branch. First of all, beer. And then Omi Chanpon. The noodles are medium-thick and mix well with the soup.
