Tokyo’s Hidden Gems Tour: From Nature to Retro Streets🚲 | Kichijoji, Chofu | BROMPTON | Japan Vlog

Hello 😀 Today I’m in Kichijoji, Tokyo. This time, I would like to tour around the healing spots filled with greenery by folding bicycle. But first… There is a store in the Kichijoji shopping district that I really want to visit, so I will go there. This store is a butcher shop, but also sells freshly fried croquettes and menchi katsu. I bought it. It is round and voluminous. Itadakimasu. (a Japanese phrase said before meals to show gratitude) Freshly fried and very juicy. Super delicious. The meat is packed tightly. I want to eat another one. Assemble the Brompton and head for my first destination. However, the destination is very close to Kichijoji Station. It is Inokashira Park. It is very beautiful with lots of greenery. Inokashira Park is a very large park straddling Musashino City and Mitaka City. In the center is Inokashira Pond, where boating is available. Cycling in the park. There was a nice coffee shop in the park. The shop has a wonderful retro, hideaway atmosphere. It was hot that day, so I ordered an iced coffee. And I ordered a cat donut. It’s cute. But I eat it. Slightly sweet milk flavor. Delicious. Coffee is the best thing for sweet food. I was thirsty so I gulped it down. It is peaceful and very relaxing. Do swan boats exist in other countries too? If you don’t mind, please let me know in the comments. I would like to spend my time relaxing, but it is time to head to my next destination. Next I will head to Jindaiji Temple, about 20 minutes by bicycle from Inokashira Park. I have arrived at Jindaiji Temple. Before visiting the temple, let’s take a short stroll. The approach in front of Jindaiji Temple is crowded with stores and people. Cute knick-knacks and old-fashioned Japanese toys are also sold. Let’s visit a temple. Jindaiji Temple was built in 733 AD. It is the second oldest temple in Japan after Sensoji Temple in Asakusa. The main hall is said to house a national treasure, a Buddhist statue. Now I’m going to have lunch. Jindaiji is famous for soba (buckwheat noodles). The area around Jindaiji has been producing soba(buckwheat noodles) for a long time. Even today, there are many soba noodle shops on Jindaiji Street. This time, I will enter this soba restaurant. If the weather permits, you can sit outside and enjoy soba noodles. I ordered Tempura Seiro Soba(cold buckwheat noodles with dipping sauce and tempura). Itadakimasu. (Let’s dig in) After all, cold soba is the best on a hot day. It is very delicious. Shrimp tempura is an essential part of soba noodles. The shrimp are plump and delicious. After finishing the noodles, I pour hot soba water(soba-yu) into the leftover dipping sauce and drink it like a soup. Delicious. I also love soba-tsuyu (soba dipping sauce), which is diluted with soba-yu. Thank you for the meal. There was an ice cream vending machine. Whenever I see this vending machine, I get an irresistible craving for ice cream. I love chocolate mint ice cream. Let’s dig in. It’s frozen to a crisp. But tasty. This stick after finishing the ice cream. When I was a kid, I used to play with it as a sword. Did anyone else do the same thing? By the way, there used to be statues of Gegege no Kitaro characters at Jindaiji Temple. The statue was placed here because the author, Shigeru Mizuki, lived in Chofu for many years. I decided to visit a place called Kitaro Park near here. I arrived. There was a large statue of Kitaro. This park is a place of recreation and relaxation for the surrounding residents. There are many other yokai(Japanese supernatural creatures) besides Kitaro. It looks scary when I see it at night… It looks like you can boulder in Nurikabe. There was also Ittan Momen. It is long. I spent my time idly looking at the yokai. I came here to eat ramen for dinner. Lunch was noodles too… Looks delicious! Kitakata ramen is the local ramen of Fukushima Prefecture. It features a traditional light soy sauce flavored soup and thick noodles. It’s really good. Then eat this one. Why do meat and fish taste so much better when seared…. Thank you for the meal. Now, I will head to my last destination of the day. I returned to Kichijoji station. It is already nighttime, but there was a place I wanted to come to at night. This Harmonica Yokocho used to be a black market and is now a shopping street. The name comes from the appearance of many stores lined up in a narrow aisle, which resembles harmonica. Let’s explore. The red lanterns and lights are very elegant. The retro signage and the hustle and bustle of people create an indescribable feeling of emotion. This is the end of this trip. How was it? In this channel, I bring you the sights and casual scenery of Japan through my travels. Please subscribe to my channel and give me a high rating if you like. See you on the next trip.

This time, I traveled away from central Tokyo to the lush greenery of Kichijoji and Chofu.
At night, I explored the alleyways that still retain the atmosphere of the Showa period. Please enjoy the trip to the end.

  4. Japan is beautiful, both Tokyo and the interior. I'm particularly fascinated by everything from the Showa era. It's like being in a dream. Plus, Japanese people are generally very calm; they speak in low voices and don't play loud music, which makes everything feel very intimate. I like it when you leave the ambient sound on in your videos, because that tranquility is so typical of Japan. I like cycling and photography so living in Japan is wonderful.

  5. Thankyou for another great adventure. The first park you went to was beautiful. it looks like a great place to take a slow ride. We still have those swan pedalos here in the UK, although most of the time they are pedalo boats. No ice cream swords here though, since I was a kid it's always been wooden sticks in ours, so no sword fighting with them, but they do come in handy as small spatulas.
