Is La Collina Ōmi Hachiman Japan’s Most Beautiful Dessert Wonderland?
Welcome to La Collina Ōmi Hachiman, home to the iconic Taneya Group and one of the most whimsical dessert destinations in Japan! From its lush grass-roofed architecture designed by Terunobu Fujimori, to a magical variety of sweets and food experiences, every corner here was a treat.
We started at the main Taneya store, lined with traditional Japanese and Western sweets. Watching craftsmen bake the signature Baumkuchen through glass walls was such a delight—and yes, we tasted it fresh at the Club Harie Café upstairs.
The Yahata Castella shop impressed us with its bold wooden design (built with over 100 chestnut trees!) and fluffy castella that melts in your mouth.
And don’t miss the Food Garage—a semi-circular space where innovation meets local flavors. We ended our visit here surrounded by one-of-a-kind snacks and delicacies.
If you’re near Ōmi Hachiman, this is a must-visit!
