Eze is Not Just a Village, But an Architectural Capsule of The Middle Ages on The French Riviera

Eze, France In this video Hello! Today we start our walk from below – from the coast, where the sea gently touches the rocky shore Eze is not just a village, but an architectural capsule of the Middle Ages on the French Riviera From the sea coast we climb to where the Middle Ages have not yet ended – to the heart of the village of Eze We gradually climb up – and each step seems to bring us closer to the past that lives here, in the stone and walls A stone wall, ocher-colored shutters, and silence all around – Ez welcomes us with coziness amidst greenery Through the lush crowns of palm trees, a calm line of the sea opens – a landscape that breathes the South There is silence, gentle air and roofs that seem to have emerged from a Provencal canvas In the 16th century, Eze was captured by Barbarossa’s troops – every stone preserves the memory of this An incredibly beautiful view opens above the roofs of the houses – the turquoise sea, green hills, and a peace that cannot be described in words The landscape is so captivating that you involuntarily slow down and just stare in silence I look and think – isn’t this one of the most ideal places where the sea meets the mountains? On the rock – a mysterious sign, as if someone left a message from another era We approach the gate leading deep into Eze. Here a completely different reality begins Behind these wrought iron gates lies a whole different world. Eze begins with a theatrical entrance We pass under the arch and immediately find ourselves in a cozy square with cafes and galleries This is the heart of Èze, where life flows slowly and calmly A quiet street leads further through stone walls that preserve the warmth of the sun and memories of centuries of life in this village Once these streets led to a fortress built to protect against pirates. Today there is only peace and the scent of lavender In 1543, Èze was occupied by Barbarossa’s troops. Today, these stairs lead not to battle, but to shops selling silk and wine These paintings are painted by local artists just in the yards of Ez. Some of them have been painting here every day for over 20 years – right in front of tourists This is not an exhibition, it is a live conversation between the artist and the street. Every day – a new page on the canvas These narrow streets are not just for beauty, but also for strategy. They were built in the Middle Ages so that the enemy could not pass them in formation These gates are the entrance to the chapel of the Brotherhood of the White Shroud These endless stone steps are not just architecture. They are the foundation of old Èze Once climbed by soldiers on guard duty, today they are visited by tourists seeking peace, beauty and meaning In these mountains, nougat is not just a sweet treat. It is a temptation that tourists pass by twice – back and forth This statue is one of the bronze sculptures created by Jean-Philippe Richard The Mediterranean climate allows cacti from Mexico and Africa to feel at home here – as if Eze had collected exotics from all over the world The view from the cactus garden – and it seems that the sea and the sky have merged into one endless dream It is precisely for such views that you want to climb higher and just watch in silence From above, it’s like an ancient fairy tale hidden on a rock between the sky and the sea The observation deck, where the fortress used to stand, is now filled with admiration This is the Eze Viaduct, built in the 1920s. The bridge is still in operation and connects Nice to Monaco This is the church of Notre-Dame de l’Assomption – the main Catholic church in the village of Èze This is Eze-sur-Mer – the coastal part of the village, from here the route up to ancient Eze begins Once upon a time there was a fortress here, today it is one of the highest points on the Côte d’Azur A natural spring in the rock – water has been flowing through the rock for hundreds of years A cafe with a view that is worth not only a coffee, but a separate trip Fragonard – the legendary perfumery of Provence with its own fragrance museum right in the village Thank you for traveling with me, beautiful Eze Every step is more than a journey. It’s a story we shared If you were interested – subscribe, there are many more unique places ahead See you on the next walk. Take care!

High above the Mediterranean Sea, between Monaco and Nice, lies one of the most breathtaking villages on the French Riviera — Èze. With its narrow medieval streets, stone houses, ancient workshops and immersive silence, this village feels like a living time capsule of medieval France.

🎥 Today, I invite you on a slow, cinematic walking tour through Èze — a village built across three mountain levels, with a dramatic elevation of nearly 700 meters.
This is where Friedrich Nietzsche walked and wrote, where European nobility found peace, and where today’s artists and celebrities quietly return.

🏰 From the ruins of a medieval castle at the summit to an exotic garden with sweeping views of Corsica, Èze is a place that defies time.
🌿 Its narrow alleys are home to galleries, artisan workshops, and the scent of old Provence.
🌊 And down below, Èze Bord-de-Mer reveals a Belle Époque shoreline shaded by pine trees.
