レトロな日本の雰囲気:新橋駅前ビル群(1966年築) | JAPAN WALKING TOURS
Built in 1966, the Shimbashi Ekimae Buildings are a relic of Japan’s Golden Age. These buildings house a number of offices, restaurants, and bars. I explore the different floors and even basement levels to show you an interesting slice of time in Tokyo’s history.
If you love retro vibes and subliminal spaces (Backrooms), then this video is for you!
Please use the timestamps below or on the video player to navigate to specific parts of the video.
HOW TO ACCESS: Go out of Shimbashi Station’s Shiodome Exit.
From there, you can either go down the main set of stairs to B1 or just walk to the buildings themselves on the street level. There are a number of entrances and stairway entrances so it’s pretty easy to get into.
PLEASE NOTE: Almost all of the little bars (a.k.a. “Snack”) in these buildings do not accept foreigners unless you have a Japanese friend or guide to bring you in.

Thank you for watching! Let me know what was your favorite thing you saw in this video. Also, are you interested in the Showa era or other time periods of Japan's history? If so, let me know! I love history and retro vibes. Have a good one and see you in the next video!
Honestly, this was a blast. I do love the old feel and the spoopy office building.
This is exactly the places I'd explore, things you didn't plan for, this underground is so vintage, the place that time forgot, I could explore this building for an entire day, have drinks, and just wander and take pictures. I know it was Tuesday morning but it was so vacant and mysterious.
Thanks for showing this creepy and cool looking place lol! The basement level with all the food stalls was like a hidden gem…. I bet the food is pretty darn good 🤤.
From the outside, I would never guess so many different things happen inside that buulding
Very cool tour I loved it
This place was a gem. The drab hallways remind me of an old creepy hospital, but then the basement was lively with activity. I'd be interested in the businesses that survive here. And there are 4 levels beneath the basement? I'd totally be down there. Thanks for stumbling upon this relic of a building, it was a joy to explore!
Love this video
Interesting. I thought I was the only one to think these hallways are creepy. Are these buildings seismically safe? I would think that the building would be more full if it was remodeled.
vintage Japanese aesthetics… priceless!!! Try my best to check this out..be there next month …ARIGATO Cory May
Fascinating! Also a little creepy. Those old escalators! And when you were walking down the hall on the third floor…I half expected to see that little pale kid from The Grudge staring out of one of those office doors…lol
Interesting Cory, when you mention about the building being old, built in 1966, two years after the '64 Olympics… I first arrived in Japan in December 1956, wow 😮
Your text at the start of the video read 1926 and the restaurant read 'since 1958.'
It's all good 😊
this is so interesting 👏👏
I loved this video. I really like the older parts of Japan. Very cool. Has an accidentally Wes Anderson feel
Thank you so much for this video! Will be there in December and staying a block from Shimbashi Station. I love retro Japan and had no idea I could experience this without taking a train somewhere 😊 🤙🏼🥰👍🏻
If everything is old, did you build any new stuff to show us?
you beat me to it! but its my favorite building too
