This time our trip, we plan to visit the Kotoku-in Temple in Kamakura, a city in Kanagawa Prefecture Kamakura is a city in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan Kamakura is located about an hour’s drive south of Tokyo. Which has a history as the center of Japanese government during the Kamakura Shogunate period from 1185 to 1333 We started the trip from the Kayabachō area, Tokyo Plan to use the Tokyo Metro train transportation The morning situation in Kayabacho is quite crowded Many workers are heading to work While the weather is cloudy with a temperature of 21 degrees Celsius The trip is estimated to take 1 hour 30 minutes With one stopover changing trains The atmosphere inside the train is not so crowded Arriving at Kamakura Station This station is operated by JR East and Enoshima Electric Railway This station is estimated to serve 50 thousand passengers per day This station has two lines: Yokosuka and Shonan-Shinjuku. there is also the Enoden Line operated by the Enoshima Electric Railway connecting Kamakura with Enoshima and Fujisawa. The facilities at this station are very complete. We continued our journey on foot. Along the way, we found many beauty salons, souvenir shops, coffee shops and restaurants. Arriving at Kotoku-in Temple. The main gate of the temple. Entry to the temple costs 400 yen. The temple is famous for its Amida Buddha statue. This statue is called Kamakura Daibutsu. The first Buddha statue made of wood was in 1243. The wooden statue was damaged by a storm in 1248. The current Buddha statue was completed in 1252. Initially, this statue was placed in a large hall. However, the building was destroyed several times by storms and tsunamis , including the disasters of 1334 and 1369 and the tsunami caused by the Nankai earthquake in 1498. Since then, the Buddha statue has stood in the open air . This statue is 13.35 meters high and weighs about 93 tons . In the past, this statue was coated in gold and remnants of gold leaf are still visible around the statue’s ears. This temple has been proposed to be included in the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Kotoku-in adalah kuil Buddha yang terletak di Kamakura, Jepang, dan terkenal dengan patung besar Buddha Amida yang disebut Kamakura Daibutsu. Kuil ini termasuk dalam sekte Jodo-shu dan memiliki nama gunung Taiizan serta nama kuil Shojosen-ji.
Sejarah Kotoku-in dimulai dengan pembangunan patung Buddha pertama yang terbuat dari kayu pada tahun 1243. Patung ini dibuat setelah sepuluh tahun penggalangan dana oleh Lady Inada no Tsubone dan biksu Joko dari Totomi. Namun, patung kayu tersebut rusak akibat badai pada tahun 1248, sehingga Joko mengusulkan pembuatan patung baru dari perunggu. Patung perunggu ini kemungkinan besar dibuat oleh Ono Goroemon atau Tanji Hisatomo, dua pembuat patung terkenal pada masa itu.
Patung Buddha yang ada saat ini selesai dibuat pada tahun 1252, pada periode Kamakura. Awalnya, patung ini ditempatkan di dalam aula besar, tetapi bangunan tersebut beberapa kali hancur akibat badai dan tsunami, termasuk pada tahun 1334, 1369, dan akhirnya tersapu oleh tsunami akibat gempa bumi Nankai pada tahun 1498. Sejak saat itu, patung Buddha berdiri di udara terbuka.
Patung ini memiliki tinggi sekitar 13,35 meter dan berat sekitar 93 ton. Dahulu, patung ini dilapisi emas, dan sisa-sisa daun emas masih terlihat di sekitar telinga patung. Di bagian dalam patung, terdapat tulisan-tulisan yang ditinggalkan oleh pengunjung dari berbagai zaman.
Saat ini, Kotoku-in menjadi salah satu destinasi wisata utama di Kamakura dan merupakan bagian dari daftar situs bersejarah yang diusulkan untuk masuk dalam Warisan Dunia UNESCO. Pengunjung dapat melihat bagian dalam patung dengan biaya tambahan, dan di pintu masuk terdapat tulisan yang mengingatkan pengunjung untuk menghormati tempat ini sebagai kuil Buddha yang telah lama menjadi tempat ibadah.
