Inside Brunei, Asia’s Least Visited Country Hated By Travelers 🇧🇳
i am in Brunei Southeast Asia’s least visited
country and the place that many travelers say a water village and apparently I can get a water
taxi a boat to get there i’m not sure though where I can find the taxi i see several boats here
already but I think these are like tour guides selling tours you can also go down the river here
there is a mangrove area over there as well but I just want to jump on a local taxi boat just to get
over there and then explore the water village ah this might be a boat’s pier here let’s see i think
there’s a boat coming actually I hear one boat excuse me can I take a boat here i want to go to
Kamong a water village can take the boat here yeah oh okay okay okay let’s just take the boat here i
just want to go to the water village how much $1 $1 okay so for $1 I can take uh the local taxi
boat here just over basically to the other side see I think it should be like just a minute ride
i think it’s literally just over there actually the boat ride is nice because it is very very hot
here today and now I have some wind blowing into my face that is actually quite nice it was worth
to take the boat already cool down a bit oh and we do actually have some waves here check it out
oh oh all over us i was not expecting such a bumpy ride here to be honest yeah there are quite a
few uh boats driving around here on the river and uh if you go down the river there’s like mangrove
area and then eventually I think you would reach the open ocean as well and here we are already
oh yeah this uh looks like an interesting little village to explore i think all of these houses
here are built on stilts but yeah we’re going to check it out a bit closer in more detail in a
minute $1 okay thank you all right and here we are hello hello are you from here yes i would like to
explore the village is that okay i can I can just walk around here yeah is there anything specific
that is interesting you go to gallery do you know gallery gallery yeah go straight just straight
here you see the the big the big building yes the big building okay and then you can see Okay i have
a walk around there okay thank you very much i just saw you on Tik Tok you saw me on Tik Tok yeah
came abroad right oh thank you so much so that was a friendly welcome here into the village what were
some of the comments saying people here are not welcoming to tourists well I think that already
proved uh the opposite i feel welcomed here in the village like it’s so crazy like in this part
of the world the hospitality and like how welcome people are if I would think of my German village
like I’m from Germany i’m from a small village in Germany if I imagine that an Asian dude with
a camera would show up in my village in Germany I don’t think that especially the older people
unfortunately would welcome him like the way I am welcomed in villages in Asia and that always
uh amazes me one of the reasons why I absolutely love Asia and why I prefer living in Asia compared
to Germany because people are just so much more friendly and open hello can I walk around here
yeah is there anything interesting to see i think over there museum museum oh on the other side on
the other side not here no jetty six I think so there are different jetties i can go back to
the other side yes ah okay okay that’s good to know okay thank you so much massi ah so looks
like I have several ways to go back to the other side later but uh what I find really interesting
already here is look at the houses here looks like even like these are two stoy buildings i have
been to water villages before in Malaysia for example or in Thailand I think but there are the
the water villages were always like smaller houses because I think like the stilts like they can’t
hold like so much weight you know but here have a look at that they even built twotory houses
here on the stilts and also it looks like the stilts are made out of metal and not out of
wood so maybe these are bit newer buildings Not really that old you know but that is all very
very interesting here and it looks very beautiful actually as well it looks like they also have
road names here titan 17 maybe that’s the name of the Yeah can you really call it a road like
a boardwalk but yeah seems like that’s the name here and yeah before coming here I read so many
things about other travelers saying that visiting Brunai is not worth it it’s boring here it’s also
a very strict country they have Sharia laws here but yeah I always like to judge places for
myself i think we saw examples in other countries previously on my channel where like a country has
a certain reputation but then I’m going there for myself and then the reality is very different so
I’m very excited for the whole day here exploring to see what the reality is really like here in
Brunai oh check it out there’s even a little gym here a private gym oh he just built his own little
gym here literally on the stilts of the water that is interesting and I’m hoping for like a little
shop where I can maybe sit down buy something but this looks like a purely residential area hello
do you know if I can find a shop somewhere to buy like water or something to drink oh you know
our place yes do you live here yes oh it’s a beautiful village here thank you yeah I like it
this looks very unique and interesting we need to be a bit careful here where are you stepping
to oh looks like I can just walk over the doors here but yeah you need to watch your steps here
some of the wooden sticks here are a bit loose and also there’s no fans on the sides back here
for example we have a hole in here as well so you need to watch your steps a bit but I also guess
that the water here is not too deep you have crocodiles here yeah right so if I would fall
into the water it would be dangerous yes so we do have crocodiles here as well crocodiles and no
fences is that safe for the children yes yes okay oh okay okay ah here we go ah many drinks to
choose from you have 100 plus here pepsi what about water no I have water no water
okay then maybe I’m getting 100 plus okay 120 okay for you this is my sister oh
your sister oh can I sit here for a minute okay just a little English oh that’s okay
oh thank you very much the change okay it’s actually quite handy that they do speak the
same language here as in Malaysia and yeah because I spend so much time in Malaysia I
know some words here and there like bleini that means can I sit here if you know my channel
you know I really love this drink 100 plus this is your house it’s a beautiful village here so
the the people living here are uh local Brunai people local local people okay okay and how
many people uh live in the water village here i’m not sure if that sentence is correct
uh manyang people i’m curious to find out how many people are living in the
water village a few hundred okay okay new house ah okay i think she’s trying to say that
some of the houses are new ruma means home and bar means new that’s okay i am in your country i
should speak your language not the other way around i don’t really understand i’m sorry wait
I have an idea actually maybe let me call my girlfriend she can speak Bahasa hi Lisa can you
help me translate bahasa right yeah yeah i want I would like to ask you if you can help translate
yeah yeah yeah me and my girlfriend and she can speak Bahasa what do you want to say i would like
to ask how many people are living in the village here okay oh she doesn’t know she just say already have so
many people there okay okay oh yeah oh suddenly suddenly you are best friends already oh yeah
what’s going on by the way you want to say hello to the vlog all right okay hello vlog hello
Lisa i think my viewers are missing you thank you handsome boy handsome boy okay now that I
have a translator here as well I would like to know because earlier they said there
are crocodiles here can you ask again if the crocodiles here like they’re
not worried about the children here okay what did what did he say so the auntie said um they have crocodile there and of course
the children will be afraid of that crocodile and also for her too but the crocodile never
attack the people here like they never come to the houses maybe yes i think she’s so
showing Lisa her wedding pictures now like they already best friends after talking on the
phone for a few minutes she likes you i think you have a friend here in Brunai already which
day you in Jakata you want to say bye-bye bye maybe one day when we visit Brunai together we
visit her as well i’ve already said that okay okay nice to meet you thank you very much okay bye-bye
okay so the auntie explained also to me via Lisa that yeah this part of the village is a new part
a newly built part and she said if I walk down and then right I can also find restaurants and
yeah I think we can see a difference between the houses here and the houses over there a question
to you guys could you imagine living in such a water village i think it’s actually quite unique
right like having your house built on stilts and then the water like underneath it and then the
people here don’t have cars they have boats that’s quite cool actually and I think the village is
even bigger than I would have expected like I think it even continues uh behind there yeah
it’s actually quite large look at this that is actually interesting and yeah I do think that all
the houses here are also connected to electricity like you can see the wire here for example that
is maybe for electricity and also up there so yeah you can also see it here so I think all the
houses here are connected with electricity in case you were wondering because I was just thinking
about that actually but one question that I have here now is if the people use their bathrooms
in these houses where does it go to does it go straight into the water or do they also have a
system in place for that maybe the pipes here like you can see the blue pipe here maybe that
is like uh like a how do you say that in English like a pipe for for the bathroom you know what I
mean hello hello no no no not go back okay no no i want to walk around here yeah i think many of
the people living here are probably working as a boat taxi driver like yesterday when I was walking
around the the waterfront I was also approached several times by uh people on the boats offering
me a ride offering me a tour so yeah seems like a like a good business here i can imagine that also
like many people that live here in the village are working over there in the capital the the place
where we started earlier that’s the capital which we already explored in more depth in my previous
video here from Brunai what I really like about this place is that it’s an authentic place it’s
not a touristy place here you don’t see tourist tour groups walking around here or driving by
with a boat it’s a very real authentic place where people are just living their daily lives
and that is always very interesting for me to see like the authentic sides of countries rather
than going on some touristy tourist tours okay and we have officially reached the end of the water
village because there are cars over there so this is like proper mainland again and there’s a big
mosque as well and yeah from here unfortunately I don’t have a drone with me maybe you remember
my video from the Maldives from last year where my drone broke down and since then it’s never been
repaired anyway that’s another topic but I wish I had my drone here to show you the water village
from above but yeah you can see a little bit how big it actually is like it even goes on and on
over there so yeah I walked around here for like in total 20 30 minutes now and I haven’t seen I
think even half of it so it is quite large so yeah definitely an interesting authentic site to see
here in Brunai’s capital $30 and we see a monkey okay and then go back there $30 $30 $30 okay so
yeah we’re going to try to find probioic monkeys now which is a very rare and unique species of
monkeys which you can find here in Brunai and they do live somewhere in the mangrove area over there
so uh I quickly uh negotiated a price for half an hour tour here now $30 Brunai we will go there
seeing the monkeys hopefully and then he will drop me off back in the city oh you have a shop here oh
we have a nasi katak which I tried in the previous video already we have Minan which is uh drinks so
looks like they have like little drive by uh shops here you can just uh stop here with your boat and
then get some drinks some supplies what’s your name my name is Putra putra yeah okay are you
from Brunai yeah okay okay ah you get gasoline here that’s how you get gasoline here in the water
village so you have the long uh how do you call that in English hose and then he’s filling up the
gasoline just like that into the big red tank here and yeah gasoline should be very cheap here in
Brunai because they have huge oil reserves that’s the main reason why this country is one of the
richest countries in the world how expensive is gasoline here 80 cent 80 cent 80 cent yeah so that
is like in US dollar about 50 cents for one liter but I guess it’s more expensive here compared to
in the city right yeah i guess they they charge a bit extra here because it’s the location here
on the water village so probably if you go to a proper gas station in the city over there it’s
probably even cheaper but yeah half a half a US dollar for a liter of gasoline these times are
long ago in my country Germany when gasoline was that cheap i don’t even know if gasoline was
ever that cheap in my country Germany but I still remember when I was a child gasoline was less than
a dollar in Germany but that’s a long history oh the smell of gasoline i actually like that smell
to be honest remember when I was a child I always liked it when my mom went to the gas station
i always opened the window just to smell it is that weird ah that’s how they paying here he’s uh
raving over the basket then he puts the money in the basket and then that’s how he collects the
money here very interesting and I guess if you order drinks or some snacks here it goes the same
into the basket onto the boat so is your job tour guide or taxi driver you’re a taxi driver yeah
taxi okay okay so I guess he is usually a taxi driver but uh he saw me as a tourist so now
he’s turning into a tour guide a little bit showing me the monkeys earning some extra money
that way let’s see if we can find some monkeys i do see some dark clouds over there though so
I hope it’s not going to end in a rainstorm here these clouds are looking a bit worrying to be
honest and here by the way you can see the golden dome that’s the the back side of the royal palace
if you remember in the previous video we visited the front side of the palace this is now literally
behind it but yeah you can’t really see it only the the Golden Dome so I think there’s like a
line of forest or jungle between the river and the palace so it doesn’t look like the palace has
access to the ocean is this from the palace yeah ah the palace the royal palace does have a here as
well ah suddenly we are stopping you you see some the monkey ah yeah yeah up there ah these are
probiostic monkeys yeah do you also have other monkeys here only this one okay okay i was curious
to find out if there’s also other types of monkeys here let’s see if we can get a clear vision of
one of the monkeys of course this is not a zoo so it’s not guaranteed that you will have a clear
look onto the monkeys here we go this is a clear sight now of one of the monkeys yeah you can see
the the very unique nose right i think this is a small one actually a baby one maybe very cute
and there’s Yeah at least another one up there yeah now we actually have a good view right there
oh but yeah seems like they are a bit shy now oh he’s jumping down there oh that looked funny
actually ah there’s another one ah here we go oh yeah look at the nose here we go and yeah I
actually like the fact that we are not feeding them to attract the monkeys so this is just their
natural habit here and we are just driving by in hope to see them and we are lucky to see them so
it’s not like a tourist tour here where they feed the monkeys to attract them to the tourists
you know i really like that oh in the night the crocodile come out and the crocodiles eat the
monkeys so the monkeys need to be careful so I’m actually a bit surprised that they are so close
here to the water like Okay probably that doesn’t happen but if the monkey would fall into the water
and Yeah this looks like an area where a crocodile would hide then he would be in danger right well
the mother monkey ah that’s the the older one up there so I think uh the monkeys they always have
one guy a bit outside of the group to supervise on a higher position and that is his job up there
so he’s supervising the area for potential dangers and uh here’s Yeah I think it’s a family in here
like there’s one smaller monkey and two bigger ones so maybe like uh the the mother with their
childs oh very interesting okay and yeah like I said I like the fact that it’s not a zoo here
we’re not feeding the monkeys to attract them just uh observing them in their natural habitat very
interesting okay thank you very much okay have a good evening bye-bye all right and we are back in
the capital and yeah that was actually quite an interesting experience okay and do you remember
in the previous video when I tried to use the local taxi app which is called Dart I couldn’t
register for an account there and I actually contacted the customer support of Dart then and
they helped me to set up an account so I should now be able to book a taxi so let’s actually
try if that works so I choose my destination already the price is here 550 let’s see if that
works hang tight searching for a driver yeah in theory it should work like any other taxi app
around the world grab for example in other countries in Southeast Asia but I also heard
that sometimes you can’t find drivers which uh seems to be the case now for me as well let’s
see if I can actually get a driver cuz otherwise I don’t know how to get to my next destination i
don’t want to get a driver again for an hour if I only need a 10-minute rides you know like in
the previous video and this is my driver so it actually worked that is great hello hello you’re
my driver right yeah yeah yeah okay uh the app was not updating for so long oh okay so I saw you at
the same location for very long okay okay but okay it’s my first time using that oh okay okay i was
wondering if it actually works okay okay i want to go to the night market i’m not sure if I put the
wrong the right location the Gong oh night market yes yes yes yes did I put the right location
yeah you put the right location okay good is the night market already open uh yes it’s already
open yes yes uh somebody told me that the whole country only have 30 taxi drivers ah yeah like
normal taxi drivers yes yes so most of the taxi you can see station in the airport area yeah right
right exit left and take a deep breath i like your your voice here take the second exit it’s wild
you’re letting us direct you i didn’t know that you can put like a funny voice to the navigation
system yeah you can choose a voice actually what it’s not Google not so you have a funny voice you
have other other types of voices other type like rough voice recipe voice oh that’s funny google
maps doesn’t have that yeah Google map yeah here Brunai ways are quite uh more popular than maps
i think in Malaysia most people also use ways I think yeah when usually when I take a taxi in
Malaysia I grab they always have ways yes yeah so every shop here has also Arabic writing so
people from Saudi Arabia they could read this the same the same language so you don’t have
a different version of the Arabic writing it’s exactly Arabic exactly okay that’s interesting $6
here that’s okay i don’t need Okay thank you thank you very much all right that was a interesting uh
10-minute ride we are now at a different part of the city and there’s a huge night market here
very popular to visit also for the locals or especially for the locals because yeah we don’t
have that many tourists here in the country so uh I’m hungry it’s about uh 6:00 p.m now
dinner time so let’s see what food we can get here i’m curious to try something okay my taxi
driver just gave me tons of recommendation uh the first thing he recommended me was a nasi kto
which I tried already in the previous video and then he also said uh that the kebab is very
good here and I’m just seeing they also have roti John here which I know from Malaysia already
hello ah you have a kebab and roti John here yeah okay oh maybe I have a look around first thank
you yeah that would be already a good option but uh yeah if I learned one thing from visiting
plenty of night markets all around Asia don’t eat at the first stall you are seeing because you
will probably regret it later when you then start walking around so let me uh tour a bit first
and then I decide what I want to eat okay we have many different options here kui Malaya kui
is like a little snack often sweet but you can also get it savory oh looks like she’s actually
preparing pancakes there yeah maybe that on the picture is a pancake here then we have our popia
pop ayam that is with chicken with beef with prawn and with banana here and it smells so good here
difficult to choose we have a chako here which is a type of noodles actually one of my favorite
noodle dishes in Asia we have the nasi kto which seems to be the most popular food here because
I feel like every second store is selling that and yeah I tried that already in the previous
video in case you haven’t seen that one it’s very delicious and then here oh this actually
looks like um matabak in Indonesia kui Malaya hello what is this is this like matabak ah mabak
manis matabak manis ah sweet matabak indonesian called but called Malaya malaya Malaya like this
yeah but it’s the same like matabak in Indonesia do you sell small portions or only the full one
oh that’s too much for me now yeah this is it’s very heavy very sweet and yeah you can easily
share a portion like this with five people okay thank you very much okay oh what are you selling
here what is this it’s like a fish sausage right ah you want to try it i would like to uh to buy it
yeah $1 six pieces $1 six pieces okay six pieces please yeah i think it’s like a cropa in Malaysia
which is very popular especially on the east coast in Malaysia and I actually liked it when I tried
it there so I’m curious to try it here as well oh and we have a cuching here cat hello hello are you
a stray cat probably she’s attracted of the fish smell here uh no sauce please no sauce just plain
is fine hello alhamdulillah okay $1 okay you from i’m from Germany you’re from Brunai yeah I’m from
Welcome to Brunai thank you so much i feel very good here so how you how you can speak in i have
been to Malaysia many times i see okay thank you very much all right we have a fish sausage let’s
find a place to try that okay so let’s give this fish sausage a try here my first impression is
that it looks and feels different than the the fish sauce I tried in Malaysia let’s give it a try
very different it’s way lighter here not sure if you can really see that but it’s very light and in
Malaysia like the taste was fuller if that makes sense so here it’s like it’s almost like a very
light snack i have the feeling that the fish taste is less strong compared to the kapot leo I tried
in Malaysia actually this doesn’t taste that much like fish so I think you could actually even eat
this if you don’t like to eat fish and if you know my channel then you probably know that I’m not a
huge fish or seafood lover but this one absolutely no problem that’s a very light nice snack i think
that is a great start here on the night market okay I finished the sausage and that was actually
very good so I want to let her know that was very uh delicious yeah sit up sit up you say Saddap
or you say enough here we Yes okay very yummy thank you it’s homemade you Oh yeah yeah right
right oh cool cool does she she make it at home homemade yeah homemade oh okay very delicious
thank you so much oh actually quite a few people recognize me here in Brunai i was not expecting
that because I’ve never been to this country before but actually since I’m here I think like
around 10 people already recognized me like most people nowadays recognize me because of my TikTok
but that’s actually quite cool so a shout out to everyone watching from Brunai especially if you
already watched my videos before I came to your country thank you very much and also look at the
amount of people here if you saw my previous video uh I was like wondering where are all the local
people because I felt like I’m the only person uh in the capital city but here yeah this is a
popular spot for the locals to come in the evening i would guess that many people come here after
work cuz yeah it is like 6:20 now so probably most people get off work at like 5 six o’clock
maybe and then they come here grab some food and then they go home oh wow we have vagu here
hello i can get a ragu burger here okay one vagu burger please you want special or regular what
is special meaning special with egg and you want with cheese $6 ah with egg and cheese yes ah yes
please special what type of sauce do you put on the burger mayonnaise and chili sauce okay then no
chili and mayonnaise only a little bit yeah yeah I can’t really handle a chili sauce usually it’s
spicy so I’m just going with the safe way just the mayonnaise only a little bit but yeah Vagu burger
here a street food burger vagu that sounds special so $5 it’s way more expensive compared to the
other burgers but uh yeah usually that’s worth it because Vagu quality is quite good ah okay
that’s the Vagu patty yes okay and then the egg oh you have like a little rounded shape here for
the egg easier to make it then maybe it’s going to be like the street food burgers in Malaysia where
they wrap the egg around the patty i’m curious if they do the same here as well do you wrap the
egg around it uh no no just put it on like a fried egg ah okay okay and then I think there’s
going to be a cabbage on the burger as well and I see cucumbers and tomatoes as well oh and butter
yeah added butter to the buns probably to make it a bit more juicy what is the most popular burger
here what the most locals order beef special ding special beef special okay so yeah we have a burger
tur which is just egg just and no meat just egg so burger ayam daging that is chicken or beef and
then we have the special burger and gaming is lamb right and the vagu burger and papa is that a roti
jon ah that’s the the long bread right oh this one yeah that’s a roti jun and here we have the buns
that looks good already then we’re adding cucumber and tomatoes and then some cabbage no just a
little bit that’s okay yeah I usually prefer my burgers with just a little bit of sauce especially
when I’m having bagu meat because then you want to taste the the meat okay and we also added some
cheese here and here is the egg on top of the burger so now only the the meat is missing where
do you get the vagu meat from local local one so from Brunai product of Brunai so we have local
vagu a local product yeah oh we have switched the the burger worker this is halal value of
course yeah i guess everything here is halal right is it even possible to find non-halal food
in Brunai no right yeah brunai is a Muslim country and I think like almost everyone here is Muslim
right so I would be surprised if you find for example pork here all right but here we have the
finished burger oh I like it the patty is actually bigger than the bun yes that is nice that looks
so delicious already okay how much $6 $6 here we go okay thank you very much all right so let’s
give this actually huge burger a try and uh it’s falling apart a bit already oh it smells really
good curious to try it oh yeah you can immediately taste the rau meat and that’s what I want that’s
why I asked for less sauce because I want this vagu taste in my mouth and then I also like the
combination with the fried egg here and then it is a bit crunchy because of the cabbage and the
cucumbers but yeah it does get a bit messy here maybe that was even still too much sauce and also
the cheese is melting and squeezing out on all the sides now but wow this is a decent burger i’m
rating this 8.5 out of 10 that burger was very delicious thank you thank you very much bye okay
I had a burger and the fish sausage i think now what is missing is uh some type of dessert and oh
look at this cute little kitten here i think this is one of the cutest little cats I have ever seen
oh my god it’s so tiny hello hello lisa this is for you because I know you would find this very
cute i’m actually even worried that she can fall in here like she’s so tiny she could probably fit
through here so cute are you from China no taiwan from Taiwan yes oh you come from I’m from Germany
germany but I would like to visit Taiwan this year winter winter is good time right yeah i think in
winter time I want to come yes thank you okay you too yeah Taiwan is actually a country that is on
my list to visit probably towards the end of the year or maybe beginning of next year even oh wow
look at this i can get pancakes here baby pancake hello you’re making pancakes here yes okay uh what
type of pancakes do you have what is nutc nutella annie you like Nutella ah tiramisu cappuccino
strawberry what is the most popular one that most people order nutella is nuts for chocolate
okay can I get one one order of that i can choose two sauces and two toppings this one is for your
strawberry this is strawberry okay then this one and one more oh I think I like these ones this
is usually for breakfast right you drink a bit milk right yeah then uh this one please as well so
how many pieces is one order 12 pieces 12 pieces i’m going to get fat in Brunai so many pieces
oh I’m going to gain weight here in Brunai so she’s making it fresh right here so I think it’s
going to be little balls yes yeah all right small pancakes small pancakes okay so it’s basically
like a little mini pancake stone I think and then there’s going to be like 12 pieces so I’m
curious because there’s no picture here so you don’t really know what to expect but that makes it
even more interesting I think is this market here every day yes every day every day right what is
the name again gadong so this is the Gadong Night Market in case you come to Brunai as well or you
want to visit this what time does it start uh 3 p.m 3 p.m already ah and then until late evening
late evening yeah i also see that not all the stalls are open here so maybe not every stall is
open every day or now you’re separating it yes ah okay okay stick together yeah so she has little
sticks here just to separate them so this is your own shop here yes me and my husband your husband
oh he’s selling beef over there sells kebab ah I thought this is your husband ah ah ah okay so the
husband here he’s selling kebab oh it’s actually cute right husband and wife having like a stall
together he’s making kebab she’s making pancakes couple goals right it smells delicious already
oh it smells very good that looks like a decent dessert for me here ah now she’s turning the
pancakes so yeah it looks like uh it reminds me of uh Thai pancakes in Thailand they also
have similar right yeah similar yeah in Thailand you can also find many stores selling these mini
pancakes and in Thailand it’s very popular to get them with coconut but yeah this is just a plain
dough yeah this is one plain top with sauce yeah you top it done with sauce okay all right and it’s
finished already can I try just one plain without sauce i’m curious to have one just plain thank you
okay freshly made let’s give it a try m but very fluffy that’s nice very fluffy so the inside is
very fluffy and outside it’s a bit crispy which is actually very nice oh I like that it’s also a
light taste doesn’t taste too heavy oh but here we have the chocolate sauce all over it already just
a bit just a bit is okay like this that’s okay already yeah so is this like a milk sauce it’s
chocolate there’s also chocolate yes chocolate yes dried chocolate okay okay okay that’s going to be
a very sweet high calorie bomb but uh Okay that’s okay for today that looks very delicious just a
bit is okay that’s okay already yeah yeah and then the other side of this okay okay okay that looks
very good okay how much you get this one is $3 $3 okay okay $3 okay you know what I really like
about this night market there are plenty of uh seating opportunities all around sometimes you’re
visiting night markets and the available tables are very limited but here absolutely no problem
so you can get food get a table get more food get a table again no problem but yeah this is what
I’m having here now it looks like a huge calorie bomb so let’s give it a try it smells fantastic
already the first bite of just a plain pancake was quite good already and yeah oh it’s totally
covered in chocolate now the dark and the right chocolate so let’s give it a full try here wow
yeah it tastes very similar to Nutella and I can taste every calorie with every bite but it’s also
super super delicious now with the crunchy stars around it now oh yeah it’s dangerous it’s so good
you can easily eat the old portion wow delicious that was very delicious thank you very much and
that was a very filling visit here at the local night market oh and you know what guys i’m sitting
here waiting for my taxi and then one local came and made me this gift he said that he saw me uh on
YouTube before and then he wanted to gift me this local food which I’m very curious to try but yeah
my taxi is already here so I’m going to try it uh once I’m back at my hotel but uh Oh that was a
very nice and kind gesture you just came here said “Welcome to Brunai i want you to try this
local food here and I really like your videos.” Oh very very nice experience you’re seeing this
thank you very much i really appreciate that all right it is the next day now and yeah this
part of the video is the part of the video where I have no idea what’s going to happen because
yeah I don’t have any information about the place where I want to go so nothing is uh
pre-planned if you know my channel and my traveling style then you know I’m not the type of
traveler who likes to book tours in advance or go with tour guides i like to do everything myself
spontaneous even if that sometimes means that uh yeah things can not go as planned so let’s see
what will happen today um my goal is to get to the other side so by the way I am now in like a small
village outside of the capital and I would like to get to the other side and then there is a hiking
trail somewhere where we can hike to a viewpoint and from that viewpoint we can have a phenomenal
view over the border looking into Malaysia that’s the goal for today uh I have two things that are
worrying me first of all the dark looking clouds it would be not really ideal if it starts to rain
while I’m hiking up there in the mountains and secondly uh the lack of information I have about
the area over there uh yeah it’s not easy to get information all I know is that there is a hiking
trail somewhere so first things first I want to buy a water here because I don’t think that there
will be many shops over there according to Google Maps there are a few houses but not really even
a proper village so we have to organize uh some water for the way and then see if I can somehow
manage to get a boat ride to the other side how much is one water $1 $1 yes okay $1 do you know
where I can get a boat i want to go to the other side the jetty here and some boats will come and
then I can go to the other side you just tell them yes okay perfect okay thank you very much okay
all right secure the water and uh the guy said just wait at the jetty there so let’s see how
long I have to wait and if a driver is driving by actually I see a boat already there maybe
he’s on the way to this jetty oh man all these warnings for crocodiles here caution crocodile
area the water actually doesn’t look that deep i mean you can’t see the ground but uh I don’t
have the feeling that it’s very deep water here at least not here in this area i don’t know if I
would be scared to see a crocodile or if it would be interesting i’m like 50/50 you know but yeah I
don’t really think that the crocodiles come to an area like this usually they are more like in the
mangrove areas right not really here so I have 1 2 3 four boats around me but no boat seems to stop
here actually I’m just looking at the map where I want to go it’s not really there it’s more like
there so that right there is a little island in the middle which you can see here you can see it
and then I want to go there so good that I had a look at the map again and not just hold the driver
bring me to the other side because I need to go in that direction hello you can drive me i want to go
to a jetty Bambang uh-huh can bring me how much $2 $2 yeah okay i want to go hiking you go hiking
yeah yeah over there bukit to Bjang yeah bjang Bahang 15 minutes go to the Bjang go to the GT gt
what do you mean uh this one yeah we go here drive me go here see the river here ah can you drive
me to Malaysia i would like to see the border because the situation is like we have Malaysia
here we have Brunai here the border is literally on the river this one for the jungle mingu ming
group that’s one so we cannot take the boat here can can we can go to Malaysia and then come back
you go to the Malaysia just the border i just want to see it malaysia not clear all the mangrove ah
it’s just looking like this ah only mangrove only mangrove yeah yeah so in theory we can go to the
border of Malaysia what I would find interesting to see but I think his point is that there’s
nothing to see other than mangroves okay okay then just barbang and then I go hiking and then I
have a look into Malaysia this one the bambang you go toward the bahang is it here you see me ah
yeah yeah the jetty yeah the jetty you can you can drive me here yeah yeah and then you can up
the here the bahang let me call my girlfriend she can speak bahasa we have a bit of a communication
problems here i want to go hiking and I think he is offering me to wait for me until I come back
can you confirm that I understand that correctly so he said if you want to go to the viewpoint it
will be three three three k and I don’t know I don’t know the name of the road because he said
something name for the road like what is that I think that’s the name of the hiking trailing yeah
so you want to go to Bujang Pahang Yeah but but is is he waiting for me until I come back he only
can wait for you like 1 hour until 2 hours and you can pay $30 $30 and he wait for me until
I come back okay after a long discussion I’m not sure what exactly we are going to uh have
figured out now but I think he’s taking me to a jetty now that is nearer to the hiking point
so he’s not dropping me here because from here I would have to walk like an hour to actually
start the hiking trail so we are going there now actually to the border of Malaysia and
then I’m somewhere near this is going to be an interesting day i have the feeling let’s see
what will happen oh there was a thunder did you see that yeah yeah yeah maybe it’s not the best
time to go hiking you can tell me when I can see Malaysia okay yeah because Yeah the border here
there’s not really like a border wall or something it’s just going to be a place like this and then
at some point there are Malaysia but let’s see and as we are speaking I can feel the sprinkles
of rain the first sprinkles of rain on my face and yeah it is literally raining now not sure
if you can see it but it’s actually starting to rain really heavy so I’m actually glad that we
took so long talking on the phone but otherwise I would be already on my own hiking actually
that’s the last little sitting here on the rain and okay oh yeah this is turning into a
full-blown rainstorm now look at this all right we made it to the border and yeah I
was hoping that the rain will clear up because it looks more bright over there but uh that’s
not the case this one Bruno nice and then and this one this one Malaysia and then police
station must stay by the jungle over there the police stays in the jungle yeah and then
Malaysia coming the boot after the chicken but this is not official border crossing right so
yeah people cannot officially cross the border you hear that there’s a thunderstorm in Malaysia
so what what I wanted to ask is people cannot officially cross into Brunai here right yeah
yeah and then police Malaysia over there sit here and then stand by here uh so sometimes
people try to cross uh after the chicken the boot the not same Brunai the Brunai le B 7
43 6 and then Malaysia cannot lean no head the number can Malaysia so for example you
cannot go now no no right so that’s actually very interesting I’m a I’m a border enthusiast
I really like to see border areas especially if the border areas are rural and unique like this
so I don’t mind standing here at the rain at the border that was loud oh my god but yeah this is
literally Malaysia over there and there’s one single house that I see over there oh that was
a freaking loud thunderstorm i’m not going to lie maybe it’s a good time to go back is it the
boat dangerous no no no no no no what about the house over there h this one the braangul but it’s
a kung yeah after ting the ticking we can have a look yeah yeah okay this one the same the the
I ah and then from there hiking right yeah but I think hiking I think I think yeah I think it’s
not not a good time anymore to go hiking but yeah it looks clear and sunny over there actually no
time this time okay sir next time okay then you think there you know then smoking the chicken
oh yeah yeah yeah because Brunai no alcohol right ah no alcohol but Malaysia have alcohol ah
yeah yeah and then Brunai go to alcohol ah okay so some people they uh they go to Malaysia and
then smuggle back alcohol that is actually very interesting because Yeah in Brunai and then
police stand by no way going way to Malaysia malaysia after hunting ah yeah yeah of course
it’s of course illegal and uh yeah the police is hiding here sometimes i think that’s what
he’s trying to say and then uh yeah if you get called by the police of course you get locked up
yeah we do have people living here right at the border so that is very interesting we have Brunai
on this side and we have Malaysia on that side so we are literally cruising on the border right now
where’s the next village in Malaysia for the for the I was asking if there’s a Malaysian
village nearby that would be cool to like like see a Malaysian village like so close
by but yeah we’re not allowed to enter it but uh he said there’s a mangrove area here now and
then behind uh far away there are villages in Malaysia yeah if you want to see it on the map
so we are here on the river and the river is literally the border so yeah Malaysia on this
side which is right there and then Brunai on this side which is right there that’s the the
hiking trail yeah the hiking trail but yeah I think the rain not good for raining so what I
find actually very interesting is that there are people living here so yeah this is definitely
not a touristy site here in Brunai we literally have a little village here and I think you need to
take the boat if you want to go from here back to the capital where we are coming from so I would
actually be very curious to have a walk around this village now and yeah that was the hiking
trail I was supposed to hike on and then from there you can have a beautiful view over Malaysia
at least it looks beautiful on Google Maps and uh yeah because it is still pouring rain here
and I don’t have an umbrella with me I think I can’t explore the village now yeah this happens
uh when you do your videos spontaneously without everything being pre-planned without a guide just
going with the flow and I’m enjoying this to be honest how many people live here 1,000 1,000
the whole area ah maybe he means the whole area because this doesn’t look like a village of 1,000
people okay I think it is time to leave i actually feel like the rain is getting stronger okay I
think we can go back panda city big one yeah too much rain now but very interesting despite
the rain I enjoy it next time next time I have to come back here yeah but uh yeah let’s make it
back to the city through the rain oh he just said it’s very strong raining over there and he asked
me if I’m okay if we driving there i’m okay okay he even gave me another rest like a cut on my
t-shirt but actually I’m red already oh my god it’s very strong right now splashing into my
face oh this is an adventure I will remember yeah you should not let situations like this
ruin your experience just go with the enjoy it okay and we made it back to the city center
it’s still raining but thanks very much for the tour in the rain yeah yeah what is your name
dean you here every day every day my day here the around the jet is here yeah yeah okay if you
happen to be here you want to have a tour in the rain as well find this yeah mr de always with the
Batman cat yeah batman okay you can recognize him with the Batman cap okay have a good day okay
cheers okay thank you very much bye-bye bye-bye so I paid them a little tip on top as well for
driving me through the proing rain here now that was like an hour long tour in the rain here now
that was an interesting adventure and I’m totally soaking wet now but you know what i actually enjoy
moments like this because in situations like this when things go totally not as planned everything
fails and then you end up in a rainstorm in a thunderstorm these are moments when memories
are being created i will always remember for the rest of my life how I cruised around on a boat
between the Malaysian and Brunai border during a rainstorm a thunderstorm lifetime memory was just
created and I actually enjoy that but I think I need to get back to my hotel now take a shower
and change my uh clothes okay and it is the next day and I am now in a different area of the city
and it’s actually very interesting because yeah previously we have explored the city center of
the capital and here a bit outside of the city center even though just a 10-minute ride it looks
very different like how to how to describe that doesn’t look as posh and rich anymore as in the
city center which we have explored mainly in my previous video if you haven’t seen my first video
from Brunai feel free to check it out but here yeah you can see it looks I would actually say it
looks very similar like Malaysia to be honest like the shops here also yeah the language here is the
same as in Malaysia the restaurants I see here are selling like at least that’s how it looks for me
the same food as in Malaysia so very interesting different area of the city as well and uh yeah
I just got a haircut in the shave here actually and if you want to see me getting a haircut in
the shave I will upload that video to my second channel my second channel is called Kender Broad
Clips on that channel I’m uploading shorter videos more random things also Q&A videos and the haircut
and the shape video will also be on my second channel so feel free to check that channel out
as well i will leave a link to that in the pinned comment and I also just learned that this building
right here is actually the only mall in the whole country and even that mall is not that huge for
Asian mall standards you know but interesting that the whole country only has one single mall like
usually Asian countries are very mall crazy like I remember for example in Koala Lumpuro there’s
it feels like there’s a mall every 200 m or so you know but here Brunai only have one single mall
okay so I spent four full days here in Brunai now and yeah does this country deserve its reputation
of being a boring country a country that is hated by many travelers i think absolutely not yes there
is not that much to do here it can seem a bit boring i mean you saw how empty many places are
especially in my previous videos when we walked around the city center but I can 100% say I met
nothing but friendly locals here everyone was very friendly welcoming curious what I’m doing
here where I’m from so I met nothing but very friendly and hospitable people here and usually
the people of a country are like a very big factor of what makes a country worth visiting for me
and yeah maybe there’s not as much action going on here as in other cities in Southeast Asia but
if you’re looking for a quiet laidback place then Brunai is definitely worth checking out i’m not
sure if I would spend like a few weeks or a month here maybe not but for like four full days that
was I think actually a very good length for my stay here in Brunai so I’m glad that I came here i
don’t regret coming here at all and if you want to have a bit more of the beaten path experience
despite visiting countries like Thailand the Philippines Malaysia or Indonesia in Southeast
Asia then yes I can recommend coming here for a few days to check it out as well and yeah I’m
actually going on a very long journey soon so the next video you’re going to see here on the channel
will be from a completely new continent somewhere we have never been to before here on the channel
so stay tuned for that and if you haven’t seen my previous video from Brunai my arrival here getting
first impressions of the capital then check out the video right here stay healthy stay positive
and then see you in the next episode ciao guys

My arrival in Brunei: https://youtu.be/2pO93eq9ZiA?si=Pe1l5IR4gdnSTgLt
In this video, I continue exploring Brunei, one of the most mysterious and least visited countries in Asia. After starting in the capital Bandar Seri Begawan, I head into the heart of local life with a visit to Kampong Ayer, the famous water village that’s home to thousands of people living above the river. We then take a detour into the mangroves to spot the rare Proboscis monkeys, try local foor at a Brunei night market and to finish the vlog, I travel all the way to the border between Malaysia and Brunei.
This is not your typical tourist experience — this is real travel Brunei. If you’re curious about what it’s actually like to be in Brunei, this video gives you a rare inside look at places most people never see. Whether you’re planning to travel Brunei yourself, or just want to watch a raw and honest Brunei vlog, this video will show you the unique charm of Bandar Seri Begawan, the hidden daily life of the locals, and why Brunei is unlike any other country in Southeast Asia. Thank you for making the journey fun 😂
watching your vlog right now from the Philippines.
Amazing video thanks for sharing ❤😊
Nothing to do ? Really ? But YouTube nothing is possible.Media control the world.
Damn.
Haha
Nice video. It looks like a nice country. If I compare Brunei with a small rich middle east country, Brunei citizens' living standards look like the poor, even though the government provides all utilities, healthcare, and education.
Every one is almost Muslim in Brunei, that is why some people tarnish its name 😊😊
Ken can you visit my tent at the bandar circus
ich bin Deutscher und gehe dort tatsächlich auf eine internationale Schule 😅
Watching From Brunei❤❤❤
This is the best video i've ever watched coming from the traveller.
Thanks for showing us Brunai and breaking all the stereotypes. All the media negativity, as far as the people are happy who are we to tell them how they should live, whether they want to follow Shariah law or the law of the jungle

That writing is in “ JAWI” Written form of Malay language/ literature using Arabic alphabet..
Yes… people from Arabic countries can read it but they do not know the meaning of each sentence….
It is still being taught at schools in Malaysia…
Stay safe and stay happy 😊
I think every country loves you, Ken. I've never heard you say negatively about any country.
This video deserves a comment. I enjoyed it.
I hate it when a place or a certain group of people are misjudged unfairly just because of the bad publicity it is getting from social media or other content creators who have their own bias country.
unfortunately, other vloggers who are just in it for money. love to "rage bait" by spreading msinformation and provoke hate — either for views and for engagement.
Good thing Ken isnt one of those greedy and fame-hungry influencers.
Your videos are very beautiful and always prefer to watch. No irritating Background Music, just calm n quiet with natural sound which take us completely in to the tour. And nothing like other vloggers who scream at your face. 😅 Thanks a lot. Keep your journey safe. Wishing one day I'll see you. With love. ❤
You come to Myanmar 🥰🥰🥰
I agree with people's comments saying you are the best vlogger. You show the area, are respectful, try new food, and dont focus only on your face as you go, you actually show the area! New subscriber, and am very glad I found your channel!❤
Hi Ken. Greetings from Limbang, the little Malaysian town, nestled inside Negara Brunei Darussalam.
I visited Brunei in 2001. I can’t believe what those reviewers said! Bruneians were some of the friendliest people I ever met. Of the countries I’ve been to, the friendliest people were in Brunei, Tajikistan, Myanmar and Oman.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with Brunei Darusalam on the other hand as you put it there is little reason for excitement. So I would focus on destinations that have a more elaborate tourism infrastructure, thank you very much and enjoy your afternoon ☺️☺️
The other travel vlogger expects everything for free when he travels to Muslim countries , you know the Jewish one
Ken you did you visit the Tasek Lama?
When are you actually going to visit Africa or the Caribbean? It feels like you mostly rotate around asian or arab countries.
Out of all the countries I visited last Summer, Brunei really took me by surprise! I really loved it and it’s relatively affordable. I rented a car and discovered some incredibly beautiful national parks. Lalak Lake was stunning! The drive across the Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien bridge is epic. I had an incredible lunch at the The Abode Resort & Spa, in Temburong. I was given a tour of the amazingly beautiful grounds and the tented Villas. Wished I had stayed there. The roads are great and gas as expected was super cheap. The food was delicious and I found several coffee shops with some of the best coffee! The people were incredibly warm and so very welcoming💖
Free healthcare, free education, no taxes,
Thank you for visiting our beautiful country, and thank you for the positive comments too
29:37 As a non-Muslim living in Brunei, you can actually find quite a lot of non-halal products and restaurants here.
Hallo Ken. thank you for your vlogs; I like and watch them frequently. i understand that you are based in Jakarta. can you please tell me the type of visa that you have for Indonesia. do you have multiple entry visa, or you use visa on arrival whenever you go there? thank you..
nice one Ken, thanks for the tour 🙂

Hello again Ken!!
I am so glad you enjoyed your time in Brunei 🙂
The part where you travelled through a storm by the borders was crazy but definitely a once in a lifetime experience!
Definitely excited to watch your upcoming travels and next haircut,
Stay safe and enjoy 😀
You can’t actually taste wagyu in burger form. What your tasting is just the rendered fat. It’s just your brain telling you it’s Wagyu. Trust me as a chef Wagyu burgers are waste of money because grinding the meat basically gets rid of all the marbling and flavor of Wagyu. It also looks like you had frozen Wagyu burger and almost all frozen Wagyu is low grade Wagyu
Ken, you bring out the best in people! You are always so positive and respectful of every culture you visit. Plus, you show how truly alike we are versus the differences that mainstream media wants to portray. I love how locals recognize you and your videos! ❤❤❤❤
The local are very honest even taxi boat is very cheap
There are few malls in Brunei, not just one mall, but its not like malls in malaysia or indonesia, its smaller in scale…
3:45 so, are you going to change your nationality ? 🤭
I now understand that many people express their opinions in the comment box with preconceived notions.
Correct. Not many like Brunei
I have enjoyed this video very much. We were staying overnight at Bako National Park in Sarawak and went looking for the Probosis Monkies, there were Silver Langurs and Long Tailed Macaques everwhere but these Probocsis were very shy. We went on a trail renowned for them for over an hour and could hear the monkies in the trees but couldn't see them. As it was the evening time we headed back to the park HQ before it got dark. When we got back the Probocsis Monkies were frolicking in the trees just where we started the trail 2 hours before.
boring hypocrite place
