We will be taking the Hokuriki Shinkansen to Toyama then transferring to the JR Takayama Line. Dont forget your bento box before boarding I love the train music The scenery on the way is beautiful with scenic views the whole way Time for a snack. I love mochi!! This one is red bean paste. The whole journey takes approximately 2 hours and 50 minutes. Sorry for the glare in the windows ๐Ÿ™‚ I should also mention that this is February so there was a lot of snow ALOT OF SNOW We pass many picturesque rivers, valleys, and villages along the way Welcome to Hida It is an easy 5 minute walk to the hotel, but the sidewalks are a little bit icy The roofs are also covered in snow so we are trying not to walk underneath them I can already feel the calmness of the village We are a little early to check in so just enjoying the cute streets We are very lucky with the blue sky today and were allowed to check in 1 hour early. Thank you Welcome Beautiful architecture and so cozy Here is the shower room. Typical Japanese shower room separated from the toilet. Very modern touches Here you can control the water temperature. I love Japanese showers Here we have an outdoor tub. I cant wait to get in here The owner has left lots of really nice amenities There are two beautiful tatami rooms on the second floor And back downstairs we have the kitchen hidden by paper doors. They left us mochi that were to die for ( Right after this we ran to the bakery) There is also sake, craft beer from Hida, juices, sodas, and water. Time to try the sake They also left these delicious crackers from Hida. Lets open them up They are SO GOOD They also left sweet crackers. Lets get into these too The packaging in Japan is next level Ta da !! Ok lets go find that bakery with the mochi We found Hida to be much more quiet and intimate then its neighbor Takayama , which we will go to next The old town is filled with traditional wooden houses preserved beautifully Other times of the year you can see Koi fish swimming in the canals, but they seem to have been removed for winter The outdoor tub was calling me name. Lets add some bath salts and select the best temperature I can already feel relaxed Pajama and sleepy time Good morning. Time for breakfast Everything was delicious Time to take a morning walk Here we have Shinshu-ji Temple. It is a Buddhist temple Real meaning of snowed in… Time to head to the train to go to Takayama for the day The train took about 15 minutes and runs quite frequently throughout the day Welcome to Takayama Takayama also has a well preserved old town called the Sanmachi Suji District I love the notes on restaurants here.
