Tokyo’s Coolest Neighbourhood Tour | jazz cafe, vinyl bar, vintage shops & cat temple | JAPAN VLOG
Our first stop is Nakameguro Picture independent boutiques, cool cafes, vintage stores, and art galleries Let’s start the day off with some coffee This is a well-known coffee shop and can get very busy I arrived at 9am and there was no queue yet You can watch the trains go by on the second floor I really love the ambience here It’s perfect for some light reading, or catching up with a friend The banana bread is moist and delicious & I have to say the coffee is smooth and velvety Back at Nakameguro station, let’s check some of the shops out The fresh flowers here are just so beautiful & I love how they are colour co-ordinated Interesting apple arrangements for Christmas & these are ‘shimekazari’ for New Years It is believed to purify the household and bring goodluck There’s a long queue for this donut shop The smell of fresh bakery is always very enticing Maybe I will try one later… There’s a bookstore that’s connected to a Starbucks I like to go to the travel section for ideas There’s so many day trips we could do from Tokyo There’s a whimsical little train-themed shop in this area It’s a bit further from the main areas but I want to check it out It’s getting quieter and quieter And here we are… It’s not just a restaurant, but also a ‘museum’ filled with train memorabilia This is just amazing The first thing I noticed was the yellow train nose used as decor The seats in the restaurant are actual train seats & you pay your bills at the ticket counter here There’s something to see in every little corner I believe this is an old fare chart I almost forgot I was here for the food Also, your food and drinks are delivered by a model train! This is healing my inner child abit My curry rice is arriving But why is it on such a childish plate? oh no Seeing the baby spoon, it seems I have mistakenly ordered a kids meal 😭 Seeing the baby spoon, it seems I have mistakenly ordered a kids meal 😭 I guess I’ll just have to go with the flow with this one The curry is decent but I suspect the adult meals will taste better 🙂 Let’s actually explore the Nakameguro streets now It’s lined with unique independent shops and cafes The ‘open’ sign with the scissors is so cute This bicycle shop caught my eye The theme is pretty pastel colours and brown leather seats Never wanted a bike more in my life! There’s a shop called ‘Cul de Sac’ in a literal cul-de-sac This shop specializes in products made from local Japanese ‘Aomori Hiba’ wood The wood comes from by-products of their timber production,
ensuring zero waste The whole place smells like a fresh forest I’d recommend checking this shop out if you’re into natural materials In front of Cul-de-sac, there’s a really lovely cafe It has a Ghibli/Arietty-vibe to it and I’m loving it They also sell bread, jams, tea and a variety of whimsical trinkets I’ll need to visit the cafe another time! This shop on the 2nd floor sells handmade items Let’s go check it out What a lovely little find They have a cute collection of Japanese-inspired patches They have a cute collection of Japanese-inspired patches It’s a great place for unique one-of-a-kind items This store sells fancy drinkware The colours are so pretty and it looks like you can engrave them There’s a vinyl bar in the area that I want to check out It opens at 11am and feels like more of a jazzy cafe during the day They have a decent collection of vinyl It’s a cozy and intimate space to enjoy music with a drink They specialise in wine and coffee I ordered myself a matcha latte They also do unique cocktails and snacks like cake and toast It’s pretty The atmosphere here is so nice, I’m going to spend a little bit of time here I think it’s a great place to come on your own or with a friend or a date 🙂 In spring, these cherry blossom trees will bloom pink Unfortunately they are completely bare in winter This is where we’ll be catching the sunset It’s free to enter so you can just head straight to the top floor It’s free to enter so you can just head straight to the top floor The city really plan and use their space well I think this is a little vegetable farm The light is slowly turning golden Pleasantly surprised to find red maple trees at the end of December An elderly gentleman told me to look towards my right… & to my surprise, there’s Mount Fuji! I’m feeling a burger for tonight This place is known for their fresh ingredients and delicious buns I got their original cheeseburger, it smells so good already Let’s dig in The burgers are delicious and the buns are so soft and fluffy It’s a great place to come if you want a break from Japanese cuisine This is a chill neighbourhood known for its artsy and laid-back vibes This is a chill neighbourhood known for its artsy and laid-back vibes Let’s start the day at this vegan bakery Even though it’s vegan, everything looks so delicious There’s some really healthy options here But they also do indulgent pastries if you fancy it Got a seasalt bread with apple juice & a roasted vegetable + hummus bread with tea Oh wow this is so good Just the right amount of crunch The roasted vegetable one is even better They were both so good I got another one Would recommend this place even if you’re not vegan This is a creative space with lots of cool concept shops Unfortunately you’re not allowed to film inside the complex so I’ll show you
the bits that I can They have all sorts of cool cafes, shops and galleries Like a yoga studio Fancy barbers A branch of the vegan bakery we’ve been to just now Fancy perfume store Things are less ‘new’ down at the main street There’s alot of second-hand and vintage stores here So perfect for a good thrifting session There’s some unique Japanese vintage pieces here I think princess Diana made these ‘black sheep’ sweaters famous Let’s go check out a Jazz kissa in the area I think I’ve been to a few Jazz kissas in Japan now You can always hear the Jazz music before you even step in Sometimes it can be intimidating to enter But I had nothing to worry about as the owners are so friendly It’s a small cozy space The seats are all different So choose your favourite one They do a variety of drinks These matchsticks are cool Got myself a milky coffee Japanese Jazz cafes originated from the pre-war period They grew in popularity in the post-war era, particularly in the 60s and 70s It’s a space where you can sip your drink of choice and enjoy vinyl records on
high-end sound systems We’re going to a famous cream puff shop next Apparently it sells out by the end of the day so I hope there’s still some left! There’s a queue but it’s not too bad I waited about 10 minutes All the cookies and pastries are Ghibli-shaped This would make such a cute gift for a Totoro fan & of course the main thing to get is the Totoro-shaped cream puff pastry I’ll show you a place where you can sit down and eat this This little complex is just 2 minutes away & they have free kotatsu seats for the public You can turn the heater on when it’s cold 🙂 The pastry came with a sticker… it’s going on my phone The raspberry one is better than the chocolate I’m always skeptical of pretty-looking pastries but this is actually delicious This complex also has lots of interesting stores This is a shop specialising in diaries It’s a collection of other people’s diaries This is a food diary Andy Warhol’s diary This is such an interesting concept for a store There’s also blank ones if you wish to write your own There’s also blank ones if you wish to write your own This place definitely gets you inspired though There’s also a cool records store here They stock a variety of avant-garde and experimental music So, if you want to expand your musical taste, this is the store to go to Ever heard of Computer Cafe Music? A bakery shop selling only carrot cake Fancy carrot cake There’s also a cinema, cola and canele shop… interesting This is a fermented food shop Products like aged sakes and natural wines Sourdough bread Our last stop of the day is a shrine with an interesting torii gate There’s a special way to pass through it Just follow the steps shown here I had fun exploring this area of Tokyo & now it’s dinner time This place has amazing soup curry & it’s their variety of vegetables that makes it so delicious I’m getting their ‘a lot of vegetables & crispy chicken curry’ So colourful! The vegetables are roasted separately and is absolutely delicious The chicken is flavoured well and is nice and crispy The chicken is flavoured well and is nice and crispy Starting with a walk at Setagaya Park in the morning

Today we’re going to explore parts of Setagaya City There’s a miniature train track here for kids It’s closed today though It’s a peaceful park full of locals With a small hill you can climb for a nice view Just 3 minutes away from the park there is a large antique store The whole shop is just full to the brim with antiques The items here are mostly sourced from Europe They have really beautiful pieces It’s almost like treasure hunting here This will be nice to put at a desk This shop has a total of 3 floors The bottom is mostly larger pieces like furniture See anything you like? The top floor is more furnitures and lamps They also have a collection of vintage watches Next up we’re checking out a free observation tower This tower is called ‘Carrot tower’ Alot of people are just chilling up here The views are pretty neat You can see Mount Fuji from here too It’s another clear day You can see Tokyo Skytree from here & also Tokyo Tower Let’s head to the gorilla building This is cool Let’s have lunch here This place is newly opened and doesn’t have much reviews yet But they serve oden which is what I am craving for today Can’t beat a hearty oden on a chilly day We’re going to finish they day off with a visit to the cat temple The temple is about a 20 minute tram ride from the gorilla building Legend has it that a feudal lord once took shelter under a tree here Legend has it that a feudal lord once took shelter under a tree here As he followed the cat, a lightning struck the tree where he was stood under & now the temple is filled with thousands of ‘beckoning cat’ figurines There’s even tiny ones hidden underneath the roof This is it for our Tokyo tour I hope you enjoyed coming along with me

Niceeeeeeee.
Sometimes Tokyo can seem overwhelming because it’s so big, but exploring it one area at a time makes it seem more manageable. My favourite was the train cafe. Thank you for your videos, I always enjoy them very much.
Tagging…such a fucwit hobby.
Mesmerising ❤️
Loved Shimo and Bonus Track! Met a friendly a Canadian at the cream puff shop lol
What book were you reading in the vinyl cafe?
