INSIDE Osaka World Expo 2025 Part 2: Japan Pavilion, Reservation Advice! – Travel in Japan 大阪関西万博
[Music] [Music] Hi everyone, David here. Welcome back to the channel. Thanks for coming back for another video or welcome if it’s your first time. Thanks for joining us. Um, how are you doing? You doing okay? Yeah, I’m doing pretty well. I’m a little bit worn out. It’s Golden Week here in in uh uh Japan. Um that’s a kind of a lot of public holidays that people often take off uh consecutively. So, it’s nice and relaxing. Um I’ve not been relaxing that much to be honest. I’ve been uh to meet this guy at the expo. This is Maku if you don’t know. Um I did visit the expo a few weeks ago. I went to that for the first time on the second opening day. But since then, I got the season pass u thanks to one of my um friends giving me a a discount code. Um so I thought, oh, maybe it’s worth worth doing it if I’m going to visit a lot. Um so I’m going to be talking you through my second visit to the expo. I thought maybe I could um compile these a bit more uh briefly, but I’ve got just so much footage to show you. Uh I have edited it quite a lot though, so so don’t be wor worried. Um I’m going to show you uh what I did on the second day. Um, I went to the Japan pavilion. That was my kind of headliner. Uh, I also managed to get to some of the um, country ones that don’t need such a long reservation, don’t need such a long wait, let’s say. They don’t need a reservation at all. Um, for example, Malaysia, the Philippines, Luxembourg, Germany, um, Poland, which I’ll talk about more, and also the Commons A Pavilion, which is where a lot of the smaller countries are, um, having their little booths. So, there are a few different Commons pavilions. So, I did most of the common day pavilion as well. Um, so I’m going to show you all that. So, I’m going to narrate this in a moment. Please like this video, subscribe to the channel, uh, leave a question or comment, and also, uh, share this channel to anyone who’s visiting the expo or coming to Japan soon. I’ve got lots of advice on this channel. You can also give me a super like to give me a bit of pocket money to improve this this channel. And also, uh, join one of my membership levels if you’re really into this. Um, I’d appreciate that a lot. So, uh, I’m going to see you on the other side. I’m going to give you a bit more detail about what I did and, uh, yeah, I’ll see you there. Okay, enjoy the enjoy the show. Okay, here we are back again at Osaka Metro Yumishima Station on the tour line and it was looking about as crowded as it was the time before, but um, large crowd appearing at the east gate trying to get in. It did take me a little while to get in again. Another 30 minutes after opening. So, finally 9:30, I managed to make it through. And uh here’s the here’s the ground ring in front of us. But something I noticed just on this side of the ground ring was a line. There didn’t seem to be anything uh on the other side of it. So, where was it heading? So, follow the line. Uh this actually turned out to be two lines um which I’m going to show now. So, the one on the right branched off towards the French pavilion. That was a huge line just for that. And the one on the left was on its way to the American pavilion. So, um, might take a little while before I, uh, go to those pavilions, I think. So, I decided to go a bit of a quieter one. I went to the Irish one. So, here we go. Uh, the Irish one, fairly quiet, minimalist. Um, showing some of Ireland’s nature and arts and crafts as well, especially um, using Japanese techniques as well. You can see a bit of collaboration. Not sure what that big ring thing is, but there’s a big gold one outside. You even got to have a go on the harp if you really want to. Little cherub that I was. And a little uh interesting absorbing um presentation of um Irish wildlife. Now, after this uh it was still quite early, so I went to the Philippines pavilion. Uh not such a long line. Only took me about 20 minutes to get in. That wasn’t too bad. There seem to be a um a theme of weaving here. So even the pavilion looks like it’s woven. But inside from each of the different areas of the Philippines, there are some representative um tapestries or kind of uh I don’t know embroideries. Some of them had um projection mapping put on top of them. You can learn about each area of the Philippines. And there was also this rather interesting interactive area where you could become part of uh Filipino uh nature. I think I was some kind of coral monster at this point. and otherwise just enjoy some views of the Philippines. Uh, also you can line up and have your AI portrait taken uh where they take your photo and then they make a portrait for you. Goodness me, they really did me dirty there. Camera Eds adds uh £10, I guess. I think there about three cameras going on there. And of course, you can see some of the the woven fabrics from the Philippines. After that, I went to the Malaysian pavilion. wasn’t much of a line outside. It seemed to be feeding in quite quickly. So, I see a bit of Malaysian culture. Uh inside, yeah, you can see a bit of bit of look into the varied Indonesian um mixed culture. You can see some of the old shop fronts. You can see a lot of street food there. Look very delicious. I was starting to get a little bit hungry even though it wasn’t quite lunchtime. And also some little model uh houses of Malaysian life. Looks very nice. So, a little peep into daily life and uh yeah, Malaysia has a lot of different um peoples and from all different areas and different languages, dialects. The inside have this kind of nice uh woven is that palm tree some kind of tree and otherwise the rest of it is focused on its uh Malaysia’s development. So, this was the tunnel of progress. I think you can see how things have changed over time and some other uh information about how they are becoming a more sustainable futuristic city. There’s a cute little animation too keeping their traditions alive. And of course a little shop you can buy some little weird pandas little I don’t know pandas. They’re bears. But there was a large restaurant inside there. So the food seemed to be quite popular. Outside there was a nice stage. They were having little performances dur during the day. This one could be joined by members of the public and there was an unusual I don’t know if this was a pageant or a a drama or I don’t know what was going on there. Anyway, on to the Commons A Pavilion. Now, a lot of countries are inside here. I’m not going to give specific comments on all of them. I’m just going to wrap them up quickly. So, here they are. Lots of booths. I’m going to take you on a a whistle stop tour through all of them. I’m going to keep quiet and just let you watch for a moment. There’s some gift shops there, too. [Music] [Music] Heat. Heat. [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] Yeah. Heat. [Music] [Music] Hey, hey, hey. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] [Applause] Fire. Yeah. [Music] [Applause] [Music] Hey, [Music] hey, hey. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] Okay. Okay. And after all that, you can get a special stamp from the Commons pavilions that will eventually make up a complete picture. Here’s my part one. I’ll show you the end at the end of this video. And since I got my passport this time, I decided to pick up some of the stamps I didn’t get the first time around. So, back to Mosamb beek. There’s a little video upstairs, too. And if you feel like a snack, you can get an eel pie or you can get um some tuki gishaw, which are the Osaka’s famous mangju little um cake things. little bit windy, but you could get a freshly made one and also a tukeshaw pudding, which was very smooth and creamy. I was wandering past the Canai pavilion, which is where I visited last time, but they did actually have a collaboration area. Um, this is kind of rotating. This time it’s Kyoto’s turn. I can show some arts and crafts and uh food from the area, too, and also sign up for some interesting events. After that, I had a bit of time to kill, so I decided to go to Luxembourg, which seemed to have a quite a long line. It said it took an hour, but it was only about half an hour, I think. So, interesting kind of re I don’t know, sustainable materials, bit of chipboard. There was also this kind of interesting AR um monument thing you could do while you’re waiting. And finally inside we can get a peep into the uh the world of Luxembourg and some various little displays showing different aspects of uh Luxembourgish society. Um the very multilingual society too. Apparently all the public transport is free in Luxembourg. I didn’t realize that. And multicultural too. This man has got a Japanese wife and speaks Luxmbborgish. He doesn’t know how to close the fridge though. And finally, you get to see the uh Luxembourg mother brain um showing all different kinds of ideas and innovations that come from Luxembourg. That’s quite interesting. And uh yeah, you can see a glimpse into the future. What’s Mother Brain from? Is that from uh Metroid? I can’t remember. After that, you can see this nice immersive uh projection area with a net you can sit on. So, you’re really kind of suspended in midair of this image. A nice bit of country chunk. Oh, goodness me. There’s a tractor going past. Watch out. And also some uh slightly expensive foods and drinks, including a Luxembour, which I was pleased about. Next door is the uh Germany pavilion. W Dosu. Don’t know why the W just kind of exciting surprise. Um not much of a line either because um it’s kind of continually fed in to the building. So don’t go through in groups like the Luxembourg one. There are several events happening during the day as well. in this little um little plaza area. And also, you’re going to get one of these little squashy um friends to talk to you. And you tap them on the interactive parts of the wall and then it will talk to you. This was um some information about the circular city, I think it was called, or sustainable uh city of the future. Uh also circular things in the spinning mobile. Very pretty, very expensive looking. So, as you can uh walk around, you can listen to your little uh squashy friend talking in your ear. And this building is kind of a big spiral really. So, going up the slope, you can learn about the sustainable city plans. And finally, you’ll get a bit further up to this revolving area, which is kind of trippy. Can see how um like rubbish gets recycled and just have a bit of relax there. Hello. Quite comfortable. It felt a little It felt like I was drunk actually. was just slowly uh slowly rotating. And then finally on the top floor there’s some interactive um displays. You can play some games. You can learn about different kinds of power generation. I think they were using my uh manual labor to turn these wheels. You can play some pinball. Sustainable pinball. Finally something offshore wind farms. I think that was. And there was some kind of augmented reality thing going on with this. I didn’t get a chance to play that. But finally, we have to say goodbye to our little friend. Goodbye, Harvey Desane. And on the top, there’s a nice little roof. The roof, the Garden of Federal States, I think it was called. The most German sounding thing I could imagine. Um, finally my reservation time came. I was in the Japan pavilion. This is one of the big ones. That little R2-D2 was going crazy as well. He was very excited. and uh another circular uh pavilion. So there are different ways to go in there, different routes, I think depends on what time you enter, but uh they all take the it’s like a cycle really of um production and recycling and u energy. So it doesn’t matter which point in the cycle you start. They’re talking about recycling uh plastic, I guess. Looks like plastic to me. And the flow of energy was uh pushing you along. And uh finally we we’re creating algae here. Algae is the um I believe that algae is our future. Treat it well and you can make some bowls out of it. Biodegradable plastics. Um something about water purification too using energy from algae. Algae is a source of green energy too as well as green ponds. Uh also there was this uh central area where we lined up for the Martian meteorite. There was a huge one. I think that landed in Antarctica or somewhere like that. And you can even touch some little slices of it. Um it’s quite hard to tell if you’re actually touching it, but um there we go. Give that little um titillating experience. There’s the Mars meteorite. You only get one shot to look at it. So uh take a picture or it lasts longer. More natural gas provided by the uh lovely world of algae and some little algae farms down here. Very algae forward. And uh Hello Kitty was sponsored uh by the algae as well. All the different kinds have uh different different benefits. Which is your favorite algae kitty? And uh you can make a lot of protein out of algae. 50 times as much as you can uh if you’re making beef. Uh Willy Wonka’s algae factory as well. Some creepy little pipes going around. It’s kind of interesting displays. It’s not easy being green. I was that a paid actress and she was just walking around with a clipboard. I’m not sure what she was writing down. Algae check. But there was a robot arm here um making I think a stool out of algae. Got 3D printing or something. And then a display about how uh Japanese flexible materials can be used for all kinds of technology uh from flexible sky trees all the way to uh flexible lunar landers or whatever that was. Some um spacecraft even uh flexible reusable toys also known as transformers. Robots in disguise. This was great as well. I enjoyed this. You could there was a live link up to Cance airport where you can yell for people to come over and you can give them a high five. I really enjoyed that. We had gave us a good laugh. Um, okay. After all that excitement, I decided to go up to the top of the ring just to have a look around. The sunset was falling and you can see the some of the big pavilions there. Nice dusky uh weather. So, just nice bit a bit of fresh air. Finally, the sun was in. I’m not going to get sunburnt anymore. I’m very sensitive, you know. There’s the French pavilion in front there and the Americans. Now, I had the Polish pavilion next. I was due to go to a concert, but they let me in the wrong door and I missed it completely. But the Polish pavilion was quite nice. Um, lots of focus on the natural world of uh Poland. Got these nice arts and craft chandelier things that cast interesting shadows on the floor so you can get the sights and uh sights and smells of Poland. I think this was AI generated. I’m not sure. I think they said that. You can even smell this uh wall of um I don’t know, bracken. Very nice nice smell to it. And all this preserved bits of decay as well. That’s part of the life cycle. And uh this I don’t know brush um brush dance. Not sure what that was going to do, but it’s very nice uh ASMR. Some strange little diuramas too of some kind of steampunk future um Poland. They got uh Luna landers there. They got dragon attacks just like in the old old country and some uh demon hordes. Yeah, I’m not sure what that was all about. And the usual stuff uh for the expo feeding diversity, all the futuristic technology of the world of tomorrow. Um outside I managed to stick the camera over my head and catch a little bit of the water show. But um I think I’ll show you a proper clip of that when I can get a good view. But you can see it from the back as well, from the Grand Ring behind it. Or uh or if you can reserve a seat too, you can get one of those. I don’t know why there was such a long line for Malta this time. I got in there quite early last time. But uh there we go. Malta. I really want to get into this one as well. Uh I want to get a reservation soon for null. There it goes. Null. Some kind of artistic looks like Evangalion font on that one. And the Portuguese pavilion looked a bit ropey, so I thought I’d check that one out, too. Um, it wasn’t much inside, just uh kind of the communication was the theme. That’s interesting part about how um Japanese and Portuguese have a lot of common words. I will flood your home. Yeah, the the the ocean wasn’t holding back. It’s annoyed. We’re dumping all our rubbish in it. So, it’s going to fight back one day. It’s going to Yeah, return to sender. So, that’s enough for me. I think uh it’s time to make my way back home. I did manage to catch a little bit of the drone show as well um which happens at closing time. You can see a little bit of a now shika feeling looking thing and then one world we are the world. So thanks for watching. Okay, welcome back. Thank you for staying all the way to the end. I appreciate that. So what did you think of day two? Um I think it was quite a a productive one. I didn’t really have many reservations. I think I had only the uh Japan pavilion and also I made the the reservation for the Polish um concert which didn’t go to plan at all. Um they just let me in. I I showed my reservation QR code and they said, “Oh yeah, sure. Go inside.” And that was just to enter the um main pavilion. Wasn’t anything to do with the concert. So I missed it completely. Little bit annoyed by that. And it wasn’t really very clear where I should go. Um, so yeah, learn from my mistake if you want to join that Polish Shopan concert and turn up on time. Um, a lot of the reservations they give you like a opening block so you can enter any time within this bracket. Um, if there’s an event you have to be there at that time. So the I think the listings there not be consistent. You have to go there for that time and that’s the duration of the event. Um, so be careful about that if you’re booking any events. Um, yeah, I kind of enjoyed a lot of those pavilions. The Malaysian one was quite uh bigger than I thought actually. It was easy, very easy to get inside. Um, everyone was very friendly. Uh, the Philippine one, I had a bit of a wait on it. It was about 20 minutes maybe. Uh, cuz they let you in kind of in groups, but you can just wander around as you like. I did get there early in the morning. That was one of my first ones to get into. So, um, I could get a reservation for the free massage. Um, I had to come back at 1:00, but that wasn’t too bad. It was nice, nice free massage for about 10 minutes. Um, so I enjoyed that. Um, I was curious about the Luxembourg um, pavilion because it had such a long line and Luxembourg’s not a particularly big or famous city around the world. That was kind of fun, too. They obviously spent some money on it and uh, yeah, the wait was kind of punishing, but it was mostly in the shade so you could uh, kind of just take it easy. Uh, the German one was good as well. Not much of a line as well cuz they continually feeding people in. And uh the little talking doodad was kind of cute. Um so I enjoyed that. The the commons ones were fun, too. Uh it’s good if you’re just kind of interested in meeting some of these smaller countries and even interacting with some of the people from them. They kind of vary a little bit though. Um so I hope you enjoyed that little uh quick quick um dash round of the the Commons ones. I I I realized afterwards I missed a couple of the pavilions taking videos of them. So, I think places like um Esatini, I think I didn’t take a video of. I could have checked my passport for the um ones I went to. What else did I miss? I think I’ll work it out. I’m going to I’m going to add those to a later video. I think Papa Newu Guinea as well. I missed that Grenada. So, sorry to those countries. I will include you in a in a future video. Uh just so everyone’s represented. Um I also did start to get the um the commons pavilions and the kind of international organizations one there. There are six pavilions you can go into. Um is it six or five or six? Hang on. I can check it now. So it is six. Yeah. So there is um little map there of places you can go to. Um I did show you the kind of um stamps that you can add to so different colors you layer on top. You can do you don’t have to do them in order, but I recommend doing that because the I think the black color is the last one and that’s the one that kind of holds it all together. So, you don’t want to be stamping on top of the black really. Um, I’m going to show you in a moment. So, you can skip forward 30 seconds if you don’t want to see what it is. But, uh, here we are. This is the uh, finished. There we are. Maku Meaku in Hokasai uh, ink blot. Ink blot. What are we talking about? Ink ink block um, prints. That was kind of cute. It turned out quite nicely as well. I did one of these when I went to Katogi Temple and that didn’t turn out very nicely. So there we go. Um that was good. Uh I got my passport as well. So I did actually go back to some of the the pavilions I went to the previous time just to so I could get the stamps. I like being a completionist. I don’t know how I’m going to get the Canai pavilion and the um that one’s inside. So I’ve got to I’ve got to do that. Have to might have to enter there again at some point. Um, yeah, it was kind of interesting. The the Japan one was a little bit not quite as interesting as I thought it was going to be. I mean, the the technology was interesting, using algae to save the world. That was good. Um, the content was a little bit dry, though, to be honest. And the Mars meteorite was kind of not really part of any of the the rest of the stories. I don’t know how they they obviously just thought that was a good idea to bring that. It was interesting to see that, too. Um, but um, it was a little bit kind of apppropo, I think. I don’t know what they were how they’re tying that into the story. There was some kind of rumblings about, oh, they’ve got water there, so maybe that’s a bit like Earth. I don’t know. So, yeah, Japan was fine. Um, it might not be one to hinge your whole trip around. So, um, I’ll just I’ll let you know that for sure. I think I had more fun in the Canai pavilion the first time. Um, where are we then? So, I think that’s most of the stuff I want to want to cover. Um, yeah. Okay. So, I’m going to do this again uh for possibly every visit. If I do some mini visits, I might kind of stick them together. So, I’ve got one more visit in the in the backlog, and I’m I’m planning my next one. I was going to go today, actually, but my um I think I hurt my legs a little bit, so I’m going to take it easy by making YouTube content. Um so, there we go. If you got any questions, please let me know. Um like this video, subscribe to the channel, leave a comment or a question, share this channel to anyone visiting um the expo. Uh also you can give me a super like if this was super useful and also or if you just liked it a lot and also um join one of my membership levels if you are really interested in more additional content or just supporting my channel that would help me a lot. So great. Thank you very much for watching. Um there’s more to come. So I’ll try to filter in the rest of my usual content in with the expo. So don’t worry it’s only for 6 months. I’ll I’ll get tired of it at some point. So see you again. Take care and uh Mecha saying goodbye. He’s got a bit of a migraine. See you again. Bye-bye.
