SWITZERLAND – THE LIFE IN THE SWISS MOUNTAINS – EXPLORING A HIDDEN SWISS PARADISE
🏞️ Lauterbrunnen — the village of 72 waterfalls
A village nestled in a spectacular glacial valley, with sheer rock walls that seem to close in on it. The 72 waterfalls that tumble from the cliffs create a continuous sound of water, like natural background music.
🪵 Local life:
People here still mow the haystacks on the steep slopes by hand, and in summer it is bustling with tourists who come for hikes to the Staubbachfall or Trümmelbachfälle, waterfalls hidden in caves.
In winter, the village looks like a crystal ball: snow settles on the roofs of the chalets, and in the evenings people gather in family restaurants for fondue, mulled wine and stories about the Eiger and the legends of the mountains.
📌 Atmosphere:
In Lauterbrunnen, in addition to the absolute landscape, there is a special silence, broken only by the sound of sledges or the red train that goes up to Wengen or Mürren.
🛶 Iseltwald — the lake village
A small village on the shores of Lake Brienz, of soothing beauty. A few streets with traditional houses and a small harbor with fishing boats.
🪵 Local life:
Here life revolves around the lake: early morning fishing, boat trips on clear days, and evenings are spent quietly, on small wooden terraces, looking at the turquoise water and the mountains in the distance.
The residents preserve traditions: in winter, sledding competitions are organized on the nearby slopes, and in summer, local festivals with yodeling and folk dancing.
📌 Atmosphere:
It is one of the quietest places in Switzerland. Close to Interlaken, but far from the hustle and bustle. At night, you can only hear the gurgling of the water, and in the morning the fog rises from the lake like a fairy tale veil.
🏔️ Zinal — the village at the end of the world
Hidden in the Val d’Anniviers Valley, Zinal is an authentic mountain village, surrounded by five peaks over 4,000 m.
🪵 Local life:
People live from mountain tourism, traditional agriculture and cheese production. It is one of the places where the pastoral tradition is still alive: in summer, cows are raised on alpine pastures, and in September they return to the village for the “désalpe” — the celebration of the descent from the mountain.
In winter, Zinal becomes a paradise for skiers and winter sports lovers, but without the pomp of fashionable resorts.
📌 Atmosphere:
Rustic, authentic, with dark wooden houses covered in snow. The narrow streets smell of burnt wood, and up in the mountains you see stone sheepfolds and hidden glacial lakes.

Life in Swiss mountain villages is a combination of sacredly preserved tradition, a slow pace, a deep respect for nature and community. Each place has a story, an atmosphere and a way of living in harmony with the mountains.
