Hakone – Japan’s Most Underrated Gem

Hakone is (high key) such an underrated destination, especially when compared to other popular cities in Japan like Tokyo or Kyoto. But if you’re looking for a nice getaway or some serene nature – I would 12/10 recommend Hakone! Just barely 2 hours from Tokyo, you can walk around town and even take buses and cable cars to get some of the best views of Mt. Fuji. And if you want even more nature, take a cruise on Lake Ashi or visit the active volcano, Owakudani. There is actually so much to do in this town so I’d recommend staying at least 3 days to bask in it all. I also recommend buying the Hakone Freepass as it gives you access to all the transportation modes so you can hop on/hop off as much as you want within 2-3 days!
