🔳淀の河津桜とは
年を追うごとに河津桜の植樹本数が増え、現在では淀水路の1.3kmにおよぶ遊歩道を散策しながら桜を楽しむことができます。途中ベンチも有り、休憩しながら散策できます。河津桜はソメイヨシノよりも色が濃いピンクで、開花時期がソメイヨシノより早く、しかも開花期間がより普通の桜の約２倍と長く2月中旬から3月中旬ごろまで花が咲き続けます。

🔳京阪淀駅からのアクセス
京阪電車、淀駅から徒歩約10分。淀水路沿いに300本の河津桜が並んでいます。開花時期には淀駅や淀水路周辺に看板やのぼりが多数設置され迷わず行けます。

🔳往路
京阪電車「淀（よど）」駅の中央改札口を出て徒歩10分。
中央改札を出てエスカレーターで１階に降り「出口４」の右側、京阪電車の高架沿い道路をひたすら西に歩けば「淀緑地西詰」に到着。ここが河津桜の西の始まりです。水路沿いの桜並木は約1.3ｋｍほど水路沿いに続いており、ゆったり歩いて30分程。終点は「淀緑地東口」。途中、水路沿いの散策路は橋を渡って右岸左岸と移り変わります。

北改札や臨時改札（京都競馬場方面）からだと遠回りになります！！
中央改札口（淀屋橋・中之島方面＝京都から先頭車両、大阪から最後尾）が一番近いです。
🔳復路（2つあり）
①淀緑地東口から大淀中学校横を通り最短で淀駅へ。
②往路を逆に戻り、淀緑地西詰へ
🔳トイレ
散策路（淀緑地）には天神橋近くに公共トイレが１箇所あるのみ。ここ以外には公共トイレはないので淀駅の改札を出る前に駅構内のトイレを利用しましょう。（改札外にトイレはありません）。
🔳淀の河津桜の歴史
昭和30年（1955年）静岡県賀茂郡河津町で原木が発見された新種の桜。昭和41年（1966年）に初めて開花し、昭和49年（1974年）にカワヅザクラ(河津桜)と命名されました。伊豆で購入された２本の河津桜の苗木を京都市の許可を得て2002年（平成14年）から淀水路沿いの淀緑地に植えたのが始まりです。現在の植樹本数は約300本に達しています。河津桜は早咲きの「大島桜」（オオシマザクラ）と「寒緋桜」（カンヒザクラ）の自然交配種と推定され、日本のサクラを代表する品種の染井吉野（ソメイヨシノ）より花色が濃いピンク色で、開花が早く長く咲き続けるのが特長で毎年、１月下旬～３月上旬にかけて開花し、最長約１カ月間も咲き続けます。
🔳地域の取り組み
最初に愛護会（愛護協力新町会）ができ、 その後にできた下津会など、地元の多数の協力を得て 2006年に「淀さくらを育てる会」が発足しました。
愛護会（新町会、下津会、水垂会）の連携もあって地域の活動が実を結び 愛護会の植樹分を含め、今では約300本もの河津桜が淀水路沿いに植えられています。早咲きの河津桜は２月初旬頃から咲き始め、淀水路全体では３月末頃まで楽しむことができます。
🔳 What is Yodo’s Kawazu Sakura?
The number of Kawazu Sakura trees planted has increased year by year, and now you can enjoy the cherry blossoms while strolling along the 1.3km promenade of the Yodo Canal. There are benches along the way, so you can take a break while strolling. Kawazu Sakura is a deeper pink than Somei Yoshino, blooms earlier than Somei Yoshino, and blooms for about twice as long as regular cherry blossoms, continuing to bloom from mid-February to mid-March.

🔳 Access from Keihan Yodo Station
About a 10-minute walk from Yodo Station on the Keihan Railway. 300 Kawazu Sakura trees are lined up along the Yodo Canal. During the blooming season, many signs and flags are set up around Yodo Station and the Yodo Canal, so you can easily find your way.

🔳Going
10 minutes walk from the central ticket gate of Keihan Railway’s “Yodo” station.
Exit the central ticket gate, take the escalator down to the first floor, and walk west along the road along the Keihan Railway’s elevated tracks to the right of “Exit 4” to arrive at “Yodo Ryokuchi Nishizume”. This is the western beginning of Kawazu Sakura. The row of cherry trees along the waterway continues along the waterway for about 1.3 km, and it takes about 30 minutes to walk at a leisurely pace. The end point is “Yodo Ryokuchi East Exit”. Along the way, the walking path along the waterway crosses a bridge and changes from the right bank to the left bank.
🔳Caution
If you leave the north ticket gate or the temporary ticket gate (towards Kyoto Racecourse), it will be a long detour!! The central ticket gate (Yodoyabashi/Nakanoshima direction = the front car from Kyoto, the last car from Osaka) is the closest.
🔳Return trip (there are two)
① From the east exit of Yodo Ryokuchi, go past Oyodo Junior High School to Yodo Station in the shortest route.
② Return on the way there, and go to the west end of Yodo Ryokuchi
🔳Toilets
On the walking path (Yodo Ryokuchi), there is only one public toilet near Tenjinbashi. There are no other public toilets, so use the toilet inside the station before leaving the ticket gate at Yodo Station. (There are no toilets outside the ticket gate.)
🔳History of Yodo’s Kawazu Cherry Blossoms
A new species of cherry blossom discovered in Kawazu Town, Kamo County, Shizuoka Prefecture in 1955. It first bloomed in 1966, and was named Kawazu Cherry Blossom in 1974. It all started in 2002, when two Kawazu cherry tree saplings purchased in Izu were planted in Yodo Green Space along the Yodo Canal with the permission of Kyoto City. Currently, the number of Kawazu cherry trees planted has reached about 300. Kawazu cherry trees are believed to be a natural hybrid of the early-blooming “Oshimazakura” and “Kanhizakura,” and have a deeper pink color than Somei-Yoshino, a representative variety of Japanese cherry blossoms. They bloom early and last for a long time, blooming every year from late January to early March, and can continue to bloom for up to about a month.
🔳Local Initiatives
First, a conservation association (Shincho Association for Conservation Cooperation) was formed, and then the Shimozu Association and other local groups formed. With the cooperation of many local groups, the “Yodo Sakura Cultivation Association” was launched in 2006.
