We’re going deep into the kitchen of Onigiri Haruchan, a cozy onigiri rice ball shop run by a humble and aspiring owner who learned the craft from her mother. This all-female run onigiri shop is tucked away in the back of Tokyo’s Asakusa area, just a minute’s walk from Tsukuba Express Asakusa Station. This Tokyo hidden gem has quickly become a neighborhood favorite. Renowned for its irresistibly larger-sized onigiri, each one packed with carefully selected, high-quality ingredients, it guarantees satisfaction—even for the heartiest of appetites.
ONIGIRI, Japanese rice balls areoften wrapped in nori seaweed and filled with everything from classic salmon to unique local flavors. It’s one of Japan’s most popular and convenient comfort foods which Japanese grow up with.

  1. This is an amazing restaurant! ❤ I visited twice in November and still dream of the onigiri. It literally haunts my thoughts. I will be coming back to Tokyo this December just to eat here again.🎉😂

  2. What a cute owner and such a beautiful story living the mother's legacy. Dad must really loves mom.

  3. Paolo, can you make a visitor map like thehonestguides? I have been planning to visit Japan for a while now but as a person with social anxiety, I am worried that I wouldn’t know where to go

  4. I don't know if all-female should be a selling point, I tend to avoid anti-men sexist establishments for very obvious moral reasons.

But this onigiri shop is just a woman passing it to her daughter, men are welcomed to dine here! It's fine, kindly don't make it an "all female" advertisment in the name, they don't support feminists and it's fine to patronize them. :).

  5. if she's looking for more workers i'll drop everything and volunteer my time! can't say no to helping such a charming woman

  6. It's admirable to set up a shop for female empowerment, but one thing I noticed and was seriously disturbed by was the owner's hair length, as it continuously touched the chopping board and ingredients multiple times. For example, at 5:10, her hair touched the chopping board several times. Her staff was fine, as her staff had her hair bundled up in a bandana, but the owner did not. As the owner of the shop, she should set an example.

  7. It was a good enough vid, but i felt disappointed about the lacking "day in the life of…" elements

  8. What a beautiful smile the owner has. Saying 'wanting to eat his wife's cooking one more time' was so touching.

  9. Such a wholesome vibe! 🍙🇯🇵 Loved seeing the passion and precision these amazing women put into every onigiri. The atmosphere, the smiles, and the craftsmanship—absolutely heartwarming! 💖👏

  10. Hope this is not too much of a fuss but I am thinking if during your interviews with the various owners if you can get them to also impart some quick tips on how to eat/better appreciate their main delicacies.

I have found that while visiting Japan, I sometimes find it daunting on how I should approach their food, and more importantly, eat it in a way that some owners would recommend as to better appreciate them. In times like this, I would have asked them upright but don't really wish to trouble the really busy chefs.

  11. Diamond G Rice (California Calrose Rice) was my Family's go to Rice for over 40+ years. But unfortunately, we have been finding too many rodent turds every time we make a pot of rice! 🤮
Maybe we got a bad 25lb bags for the last 2 years.
I want to find another brand. That Rice bucket was thrown out! I get that rodent shit is a part of all "grains", but the amount of crap was just too nasty!!!
