尾張地域の中心は、長い間、織田信長が居城とした清洲城とその城下町でした。
しかし、関ヶ原の戦い以降の政治的な問題や、水害に弱い地形上の弱点があることなどから、徳川家康は名古屋城を築城しました。
これにともなって、清洲から名古屋へと武家屋敷、神社仏閣、橋、町屋、門などあらゆるものが移され、現在の大須界隈は名古屋城下の南寺町として、神社仏閣の多く集まる場所として指定されました。1612年に、徳川家康の命により現在の岐阜県羽島市大須にあった真福寺（大須観音）を現在地に移転。周辺地域は大須観音の門前町として発展し、大須と呼ばれるようになりました。大正元年、万松寺が領有する付近の山林の大部分を開放したことにより、大須商店街が誕生。劇場、演芸場、映画館などが作られ、名古屋市内随一の歓楽街となりました。昭和に入ると、戦後の復興事業で若宮大通（100ｍ道路）や伏見通がつくられたことにより、名古屋中心部の盛り場は分断され、大須の街はだんだんと寂しくなっていってしまいましたが、1970年代後半になると、アメ横ビルや家電販売店、パソコンショップなどが集まりはじめ、秋葉原、日本橋（大阪）とともに日本三大電気街といわれるようになりました。その後は他の電気街と同様に、オタク街としての性格を強めていきました。
現在では、海外の商品を販売する店舗や外国人が集まる店舗などが多くあり、さまざまな国々の文化やファッション、グルメに触れることができる多国籍な街という側面も持っています。また、老若男女問わず、安価な洋服やおしゃれ小物、古着を求める人々が多く訪れるファッションの街でもあり、毎日多くの買い物客で賑わっています。（＠大須より）

As a result, everything from Kiyosu to Nagoya, including samurai residences, shrines, bridges, machiyas, and gates was moved, and the current Osu area was designated as a Nandera town in the Nagoya Castle Town and a place where many shrines and temples gather. In 1612, at the order of Tokugawa Ieyasu, Shinfukuji Temple (Osu Kannon), which was located in Osu, Hashima City, Gifu Prefecture, now, was moved to its current location. The surrounding area developed as a town of Osu Kannon, and came to be called Osu. In 1917, Osu Shopping Street was created when most of the nearby forests of Manshoji Temple were opened. Theatres, entertainment halls, cinemas and more have been built, making it the number one entertainment district in Nagoya City. As the Showa era began, the construction of Wakamiya Odori (100m road) and Fushimi streets were created as postwar reconstruction projects, and the town of Osu gradually became lonely, but in the late 1970s, Ameyoko Building, electronics stores, computer shops and more began to gather, and along with Akihabara and Nihonbashi (Osaka), it became known as Japan’s three major electric districts. After that, like other electric towns, it strengthened its character as an otaku town.
Today, there are many stores that sell overseas products and foreigners gather, and they also have the aspect of being a multinational city where you can experience the culture, fashion and gourmet food of various countries. It is also a fashion town that is visited by many people, regardless of age or gender, looking for cheap clothes, stylish accessories, and second-hand clothing, and is bustling with many shoppers every day.
