首都の玄関とも言われる日本で最も大きなターミナル駅「東京駅」。
乗り入れている路線はJRが22線と、東京メトロ丸ノ内線が1線で計23線。JR東日本の駅では最多として知られています。新橋と上野を結ぶ高架鉄道建設の立案をきっかけに1914（大正3）年、開業した 「東京駅」。設計は「日本銀行本店本館」などの設計をしたことでも知られる、日本を代表する建築家の辰野金吾氏が担当。赤レンガ造りの丸の内口駅舎は、正式名称「東京駅丸ノ内本屋」として知られ、2003年に国の重要文化財にも指定されています。
丸の内口駅舎の象徴とも言えるのが、八角形の南北ドーム。天井には直径2.1ｍにも及ぶ威風堂々とした佇まいの鷲が8羽取り付けられ、その下のコーナーには、干支の方角にのっとった八支の干支の彫刻が施されています。夜になるとオレンジ色の光が灯り、ライトアップされる丸の内駅舎。日中の雰囲気とは一変して辺りは幻想的なムードに包まれることから、イルミネーションの名所としても有名です。
丸の内口駅舎の正面に広がるのは、「行幸通り」に通じる「丸の内駅前広場」。6500平方メートルある開放的な広場の両側にはケヤキと芝生が植えられ、都会と自然の共存を感じさせます。

Tokyo Station is the largest terminal station in Japan, also known as the gateway to the capital. It has a total of 23 lines, including 22 JR lines and 1 Tokyo Metro Marunouchi Line line. It is known as the station with the most lines of JR East.
Tokyo Station opened in 1914 (Taisho 3) after a plan to build an elevated railway connecting Shinbashi and Ueno was proposed. The building was designed by Tatsuno Kingo, one of Japan’s leading architects, who is also known for designing the Bank of Japan Head Office and other buildings. The red brick Marunouchi Exit station building is officially known as Tokyo Station Marunouchi Bookstore, and was designated an Important Cultural Property by the government in 2003.
The symbol of the Marunouchi Exit station building is its octagonal north-south dome. Eight imposing eagles measuring 2.1 meters in diameter are attached to the ceiling, and the corners below are carved with the eight zodiac animals according to their directions.
At night, the Marunouchi Station building is lit up with orange lights. The atmosphere is completely different from that during the day, and the area is enveloped in a fantastical mood, making it a famous illumination spot.
In front of the Marunouchi Exit station building is the Marunouchi Station Plaza, which leads to Gyoko-dori Street. The 6,500 square meter open plaza is lined with zelkova trees and lawns, giving the impression of the coexistence of city and nature.
