We started our journey by arriving in Shanghai at midday via a sleeper train from Xi’an, a unique way to travel in China. After a quick taxi ride to our luxurious hotel, the Waldorf Astoria Shanghai on the Bund, we were greeted with breathtaking views of the famous Pudong Skyline.

Our first stop was the serene yet bustling Yu Gardens, where despite the Sunday crowds, we enjoyed the traditional Chinese architecture and peaceful atmosphere. Lunch was at a charming local restaurant, offering delicious food at a great value—one of the hidden gems in Shanghai!

After a brief rest at our hotel, soaking in more views of the Bund, we headed to the towering Shanghai Tower. We went straight to the top, marveling at the panoramic views of the city from one of the world’s tallest buildings. As night fell, we strolled through Pudong, passing by the iconic Oriental Pearl Tower, which was dazzling with its night-time lights.

The adventure continued as we took the unique Shanghai Sightseeing Tunnel under the Huangpu River, emerging at the Bund. Here, we captured stunning photos with the illuminated Shanghai skyline as our backdrop. To wrap up our day, we indulged in some retail therapy on the famous Nanjing Road, before enjoying a leisurely walk along the Bund back to our hotel.

  1. Shanghai is such a great city, it is the perfect balance of the old and modern, I would love to return and spend more time in this fascinating city. I have written a FREE China Guide Book PDF with all our tips, tricks, best hotels, places to visit and more, you can download it here: https://bit.ly/4d8D23t

  2. Shanghai tower has an AI experience. We loved it. Private no crowd elevator. I mean just our group to the top. It's like in the movies but in real life unreal. No iphone or any recording device allowed., you use your face to open a locker and put away everything before enter into your dream.

  3. Chinese scenic spots are always crowded during holidays. If you want a good travel experience, you really need to make time arrangements in advance.

  4. As a Chinese person, I can tell you for sure. The kinds of food in China are extremely numerous. I've been a Chinese for around 23 years and I still often eat delicacies that I've never seen before

  5. Shanghai’s mix of old and new must have been amazing to experience! What surprised you the most about your visit?

  6. 作为一名父亲,我知道带两个孩子旅游真的不是一件容易的事。

  7. Shanghai is expensive and boring. Top three provinces for tourism in China last year:
    1.Guizhou(1.28 billion person-time)
    2.Yunnan(1.08 billion person-time)
    3.Jiangsu (9.7 billion person-time)

  8. Based on my experience, if you're interested in modern architecture, you should visit Shenzhen. It's more modern and has many parks that are peaceful. If you want to explore ancient towns, you can go to Yunnan, which also has beautiful scenery. As for Shanghai, I find it very crowded and noisy, so I don't like it there.
