Tokyo Live🇯🇵Ningyocho the Doll Town🇯🇵Tokyo Japan

and greetings everybody from ningo here in Tokyo I’m at suu Shrine which is very very beautiful it’s quite new and also special for um encouraging childbirth fertility T of butter as well ton of butter was yesterday um yeah so anyway I’m going to go for a little walk around here oh look how pretty we’re going to go for a walk around here this is the doll Town um and I have missed the midday clocks so we’re going to try for 1:00 so we’re going to go for a bit of a walk and just see how we handle the heat I wish I have a something toy train and family have good health nice pretty pretty this is also famous Larry yes fantastic nice to see you yes it’s very very hot so hopefully we’re going to stand up to the um the heat today it’s going to be 36° and probably even hotter here in this part of the city where there’s no um well there are some trees but there’s not really a lot of nature around to create a breeze the shrine is pretty cute though because it’s also famous for dogs so couple of times a month Lisa Kora nice to see you glad the postcard arrived i’ got there quickly we so a couple of times a month they have dog day here where you can bring your dog and of course get it blessed but look at these his mom and pup and papa is playing of course mom’s watching over see how they’re nice and shiny on the top they’ve had a good little rub even I rubbed the puppy this morning when I got here anyway shall we head off for a walk we’ve got a few steps to um head down and actually sure running a little bit late I wanted to be here for the midday clocks but doesn’t always work out does it so let’s go when I first arrived there were quite a lot of people here and they were blessing babies so some people had some good luck yes cool I must have posted it at the right right post box anyway let’s go for a walk we’re going to get down into the street oh I am getting a a little bit of a breeze um oh it’s nice the breeze is nice I’ve got my umbrella so we can um small shrines there Statue of mother and baby isn’t that gorgeous let’s have a close up look here yes it’s this is quite new it’s um yeah new a new Shrine and oh look how cute isn’t that gorgeous um not sure how old it is it would be maybe around 10 years old I guess right here ngoo is a really really old area of Tokyo but it has become um you know a commercial District it still has a lot of the traditional old shops are here and looking at the Guardians um so selling the special cookies that they make here the Ning ningo ningo the dolls this is nice isn’t it yeah new I’ll have to look up exactly when it was built and put in the um in the explanation later so let’s course we’ve got our Guardians here yeah one has the mouth closed one has the mouth open aren’t these gorgeous really really beautiful look at these nice postcards oh this is a lovely postcard so this is the old days this is what n Yoo looked like in the old days was the Entertainment District and a lot of dolls and puppets were made here there’s a big gate here oh I didn’t notice this as I came in nice so let’s let’s head down oh Samurai so I’ve got a lot of steps here so just bear with me yeah look look how gorgeous it is when you look out here I didn’t intend to start here k j nice to see you I didn’t intend to start here but when I got up it looked so fabulous and I was pretty hot so I wanted to I thought this is a good starting point and we walk down towards the clocks the clocks actually there’s two of them in the street and they strike um on the hour every hour they’re puppets marionettes and the curtains open and they come out and sing sing and perform for us they’re very small so they just last a couple of minutes and of course all the locals working in this area don’t take any notice of them when I’m here everybody starts to stop and look at them again these are lovely Lan here what have we got over here little bit of information good a great starting point I think so because we’re going from the new to the old lesser so it sort of makes sense in a way doesn’t it so to get the three trains to get here and it was funny because I as I came through Shinjuku I thought I haven’t even been for a walk around Shinjuku since I’ve been here I’ve been doing different sorts of um exploring this time and because I’m you know I’m staying with the family it’s really really fantastic and anything I plan to do never works I wanted to take you all for a walk through the Hat oi streets on Saturday got down there and what happened started pouring with rain again so I put that one on hold and then never got a chance to go back so we will we will do it so this is the entrance here everything’s really tidy Larry it’s amazing fabulous to see you it’s been a wee while going to walk down the street this is the main ning Yoo Street there it’s serviced by two subway stations this one here which is um SOI T yes a long one and then the other one’s ningo this was a little bit easier for me to get here um from where I was staying okay family there with Havey baby blessed they just gave me a little nod lovely lanterns in the street in the treat nice and cool right here the minute I get to the crossing it’s going to be it’s going to be hot yeah H all right aren’t these gorgeous look everything’s very well organized Larry you know you you’re crisscrossing the city um in these subway trains Subway Lines it’s incredible to think um I don’t know how many Subway Lines there are here but they all crisscross each other and you feel as if you’re going along way but you’re actually just in the next neighborhood so from here’s the crossing I want to stay on the side of the road now so we’ll wait although if I cross here we’ll get a nice view back to oh there we go I heard the Roar I um so we’re going to end up walking down there there in that direction I have my favorite restaurant is down here for lunch so that’s going to be my end destination but from here now we can look across here’s the shrine it’s really really beautiful all that wood oh and we can go back again oh it’s a long crossing that’s good and looking down towards shimbashi in that direction or Nashi actually probably small police box here on the corner Coban they have one they’re everywhere and I have been told I’ll just put my fabulous umbrella up I have been told that if you’ve run out of money and you can’t get home you can even go in and ask them for the um the fear for the train which is great so yeah the station sui tingu sui tingu my so U my here’s the city map always handy to have these Maps Red Dot of course is where we are ah now we’re going to go on this one so we didn’t waste any time doing that did we and we’re coming up to the famous um Cookie Shop ningo the ningo cookies where they bake the the cookies are baked in the shape of a doll Family Mart I’ll be getting a nice cold drink from there shortly important to stay hydrated in this weather she’s pretty pretty warm so these are the cookies in here so for a lot of people when you visit ningo you would come in here and buy the ningo cookies exit only here they are ningo Mingo yucki pure pureed sweet red bean paste beautiful so we’ll keep on walking remember this is the old traditional area so there’s no U then they oh we can have a look here as well these are not the doll shape these are just the cookies summer 12th of July they’re having looks oh it’s a dinosaur it looks like they’re having grab a fortune a lottery event you get a ticket by spending a certain amount of money and then you have a chance to grab cash or quartering to the lottery held there so not sure if um many of you have been with me here inoo before um it is one of my favorite areas of Tokyo it’s got lovely this is the main shopping area but when we step um into the back streets there are beautiful shops uh beautiful clothing stores the main street is pretty much as it’s always been Asian restaurant Monica I don’t think that’s always been but and you have to remember Japan there’s always lots and lots of stairs everywhere uh probably Larry a little bit later oh you can never find yeah you need to head into the convenience stores they have them there and that’s where you can recycle your bottles as well so the convenience stores all have them there are a few more around now in Parks but how much how much stuff did you have to get rid of I hardly ever have anything to get rid of um you know I might have the odd tissue or a bottle which I can always Empty Bottle I can always deposit at the um at the vending machine yeah yeah I’ll grab some cookies probably on the way back we could um we’re just going to fill in time a little bit until 1:00 for the here’s cuz here’s the doll coming up could take your walk down some of the back streets so beautiful China here traditional Japanese look at the bowls and these sort of areas are so reasonable compared to tourist places 800 180 Yen and sometimes they’re really expensive because they’re such high quality 660 here and don’t you love the way they just all dumped in the baskets 500 yen here look at this gorgeous green Bowl wow that’s 3,320 but it’s beautiful look at that glaze and nice to know oh and this these are always popular it’s come down in price too noodle noodle bowl glass set there with coasters and glass yeah so yeah good let’s move on a little bit so we’re coming up to one of the clocks it’s going to be 20 this is the um ah yes this is the the other side of the road is the fireman seven days look at all these lovely summer dresses look at that they look nice and cool actually it’s not as hot here in the street as I thought it was going to be so here is one of the two of these clocks and these represent the old days of Tokyo when this was the original um Entertainment District so you can see there we’ve got 25 minutes to go until the curtains will open and the dolls will come out to play so let’s fill in a little bit of time by walking mechanical clock tower in ningo the town of dolls Edo storytellers rakak rakugo car as the curtain opens on the lower level a rakugo car starts to tell the story of the origin origins of Mingo this was created by the rakugo tawa on the upper level the murals rotate to reveal daily scenes from the Edo period ah what does this mean maybe I hope it says it’s not it’s not working sorry for the inconvenience I hope it doesn’t say that but we’ll try because performan has begun every hour on the hour from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and last approximately 2 minutes let’s walk down and have a look at the fireman’s the fireman one um as [Music] well Sushi um some of you will have had my buy me a coffee newsletter which was about food in Japan I didn’t include this one and this has not always been in the street of course hey but fantastic thanks for joining me we will cross over to the farming one where is he on the other side of the street I actually can’t see him we go and have a look we go and have a look and see what’s happened because it looks like they’re doing some work over there as well so they may have taken it down I know exactly where it is maybe the dolls aren’t working we’ll soon find out won’t we so just waiting to cross again here so you can see what the buildings look like around here so the area has um you know adopted a lot of new buildings as well as old traditional um as it’s become more commercial yeah I would say the area might be getting a little bit of a makeo over I would say our clocks missing too the sight of kagi kakara Ginza the mint of the 17th century Ginza means silver coin agement H interesting kakara Ginza I think it’s not here any longer it’s being moved anyway that’s okay we’ll head back Kathy awesome because I’m with the clocks you know the um the puppets the marionettes this one looks as if it has been taken down because they’re doing some work here so the firemen are not here so we’ll go back at 1:00 and look at the the storytelling and I know I’m in the right spot because here is a bear outside this restaurant and this is a famous uh famous site here in yeah finding the bear with the sled it’s a fam famous site right here in mingoo and then my little Street where I’m having lunch is just up here so we’re going to watch the dolls and then I’m going to walk you back to my street where I’m going to show you where I’m having lunch my street is fabulous it’s the um the old it’s known as The gisha Alley so let’s let’s head over here it’s very hot Kathy I’m under my beautiful umbrella it’s pink where is it there it is and it’s great it’s UV everybody’s got them the other thing is um I’ve discovered these little wet tails that you can you can wipe yourself with them they’re very very icy to touch and I’ve just put one on my neck to cool me down while I was walking yeah so we’re just back here just check it look at some of the local shops oh you having lunch now too 19 oh 19 sounds lovely it’s about 36 here so I wasn’t too sure how long I was going to be able to um stay out in the sun but it seems like I’m doing okay started off a lovely Shrine but thanks everybody thanks for joining thanks for your coffees it’s been um it’s been a lovely Adventure this time like um you know often when I’m here I’m working so when I’m not working it’s really great I just take myself around doing all the things that I love spotting discovering one more spot that’s for [Applause] Cathy I’ll take you for walk around the block oh see traditional something special going on in here okay oh another one mini one let’s walk around the block sorry if I’m missing any messages it’s pretty bright whoops I’ll stop um stop in a moment let’s go down here we’re just going to do the block for time until the clock might work at 1:00 I’m not sure it’s got a sign on it which I’m not sure what the sign says either no smoking in the public areas oh tea this is a tea shop oh Tokyo Japan HOA roasted green tea shop there a nice there’s a nice tofu shop down here as well drinks oh they’ve got the tea next door and then they’ve got the vending machine right here as well Cura fabulous to see you mat awesome tofu this was all the tofu Donuts maybe maybe tofu Donuts amazaki soft cream ice cream oh yeah this building down here is fabulous oh here come it’s election time I think or little truck going around with a big big loud speaker on it no not not election election maybe maybe selling something go I’m aan I’m a yeah these buildings are pretty fabulous yeah all this old one up here this is yeah once I get into the back streets then I start remembering what I’ve been what I’ve seen before and it’s good to see things don’t change too much since got the big red lantern out side but really really pretty little side streets yeah this is an old one oh look at these shiny bikes love the architecture you know it’s the mix of new and old and Tatty and perfect and shiny it’s and all the wiring you know it’s pretty amazing pretty amazing yeah so different absolutely different we’re going for time oh we’ve got still got a little bit of time we’ll just walk back this way you know yeah I don’t know it’s good you just if you’re a photographer of course you’re going to have so much fun here there’s the meat companion the names they use are pretty fabulous at the back of that old rusty corrugated iron okay walk down here I’ve got a feeling we’re going to be disappointed and the clock’s not going to work so um don’t get your hopes up come on Mr Black Cat do finish your deliveries oh here’s the meat shop over here so here’s the local butcher it all looks beautiful can buy gift packs take home 20,000 yen wow it’s all like you we got time maybe just go down here just getting a little bit of atmosphere so you can understand you can imagine in the old days everybody in there kimono there’s a couple of gorgeous people down there with nice looking umbrellas a little bit far in the distance probably to see narrow building um if you keep walking down here there’s a lovely park at the end as well and beyond that there’s a big uh there might be that big building there it’s sort of like a big concert hall but thanks for having just a Tokyo walk with me I can’t promise anything but we’ll do our best I love the way these I guess it’s a type of bamboo looks like asparagus it is bamboo I love the way they plant it like a hedge just wandering arounds fabulous yeah and then we’re all colorcoded cuz here comes a gorgeous green dress just matching our bamboo ni cus here I could do with one of those yes so I think this is the really really good Street here for lots of small shops and cafes this is a nice one with lots of lots of trees that man walked on the red light so I guess I can to okay yeah this is the street that goes down to the park and it’s really lovely volia so there’s lots of famous dog statues in Tokyo that I was reading about we all know haiko who was um the dog that waited at the station for his master every day but I just found the dog and puppy statue back at um the the temple and yeah and now we just found that one nice little clothing shops tiny nice Fabrics look linen I love linen t-shirts one’s got oh it’s got a little thingy on it a little dog I think nice oh might have to come and do a bit of shopping left yeah very nice kich beautiful yes lovely I will come back yeah okay hope you’re enjoying yes got restaurants is barbecue come TR setting up all the barbecue for lunch G how’s it going yeah sorry you guys I haven’t I caught a b last night I caught um Dutch MZ this morning and that’s been about it for me oh what’s the time oh got 5 minutes this Shop sells absolutely everything this is amazing everything bamboo everybody looks fabulous with their umbrellas up adds a new a new sort of slice to um the atmosphere here we go we got some nice cookies here recommended oh rabi Moi that’s one of my favorites but I looking forward to my lunch um the lunch is in a fabulous restaurant with a stone floor that must be really really old but they do beautiful fish which is marinated in sake yeah lunch is the meal to eat in Japan cuz it’s a lot cheaper than dinner everywhere has a lunch set the subie sushi buy a takeway sushi here all 100 yen each it’s good deal another one that must be four we’ve seen today so let’s head for the clock we’ve still got a few minutes Japanese man with his wooden sandals on them I know get are the woman’s ones not sure what the um men’s version is called is a doll okay so we’re just going to hit head back to our beautiful clock here more Nice Clothing yeah they always have everything displayed beautifully too look those oh look at Lisa look at that crosed bag it’s like a shell oh they’re all shells wow amazing look how nice and cool these dresses look so if you’re nyoo and you’re looking for the clock look for the Golden Archers the American Embassy once you found that the clock is just a little bit further along from that then after you watch the clock you can I’ll take you to my favorite restaurant we I won’t take you inside but we’ll we’ll go to the door and you’ll see why it’s why so nice look at the sushi looking so good 4 minutes to go so what will happen is the panels there will open hopefully the curtains will also open and we should get a um little performance here talking about coold I’ll show you what I’ve discovered come here come here come here I need about five hands at the moment hold on how can I manage this I’ve discovered these which is like a wipe so it’s what we we usually use for our hands but this one I’ve just had on my neck um just dabbing myself with it and it feels like it’s sort of Menthol flavored and it feels uh icy cold even though it’s just come out of that packet yeah so they are really fabulous so you can just wipe yourself down with them and yeah you’re good to go but anybody speaking Japanese at the moment can read these signs does it say sorry we’re not working I am not sure I should have done a oh oh no I couldn’t cuz I was live streaming when we discovered the um yes J they’re fantastic and you can just buy them in the 100 yen store they’re really good you can also buy those ice Rings people use those have them around their necks as well but these are working quite well for me at the moment dried figs looks like it’s all dried no maybe not all dried pickles and dried and Beans by the look of it YY bosy pickled plum nearly time Patricia good morning good morning meow how are you we wait just waiting to see whether the clock’s going to work or not and if it’s not going to work we’re just going to walk straight off for lunch I was just showing my ice I see wipes that I’ve been using oh here it goes wow the curtain have opened thing is how to get a good enough view without can you see anything but um getting a lot of interference oh there they are theyve opened up there spe the little curtains open but we’ve got a lot of yeah it’s better to watch these ones oh and then they’re going to close just last 2 minutes and then the curtains will close oh they close so quickly so that that was it everybody that was the clock bit of an anticlimax we came all that way but it did work which is really awesome so now I’m going to walk you along to lunch so the sign does not say sorry we’re not working it probably says we are still working you saw a little bit yeah really hard to probably need to come at a different time of the day what is it till 7:00 p.m. so different probably better to enjoy um in real life so make sure if you’re in Tokyo come to Ming yo so let’s go head off for lunch I’ll we’ll walk a little bit of a different way maybe I’ll show you the Gia Alle before we go in for lunch cuz it’s lovely it’s a very very narrow Street G is still um operating in this area working but you don’t see them in the street like you do Kyoto um so they’re just they’re entertainers so uh they’re in there their work places anyway success we did get the clock it’s a nice play Lacy umbrella oh we walked past this before tomorrow I’m taking you to um yugawara where I where I was last week for two days this time I’m going to share it all with you I know where to go and what to do so we’ve got a got it all sorted so the old Kabuki days of the Kabuki theater there are your umbrellas this us this is nice go go I like that fish we across at the big pedestrian Crossing down here my little alley is just through here you can see there’s a small Shrine just above the blue canopy and that is gisha alley and that’s where my little restaurant is so it’s probably about 5 years since I’ve been here uh few changes few changes in the street including only one clock operating at the moment but if you do ever get to ningo explore those little side streets we were walking in and end up down at the park you won’t go wrong that looks interesting too noodles and [Music] tempura Coco Curry house next door okay move into section here this is the Ling yo intersection got here just a good timing lot of business people around this area don’t see many foreigners so it was typical of these intersections in the old days they were always on an angle they didn’t come out into a square they were always cut off and an angle like this this side and even the Daiso the 100 yen store that’s on an angle as well the the new building opposite is not really although it is set back a little bit so the new has yeah enveloped the old in a way so this is it mingoo Dori these lovely old signs are beautiful L go Dory let’s go for lunch what’s this beer he looks like he’s a a bakery item he looks like he’s a bun a beer bun not the street one more number five today and everyone’s been a different color lingo Yaki again well it’s nice and in the shade here now oops sorry this my umbrella blowing tobacco shop oh yeah yeah yes yes yes py TR so this is a standup uh standup Cafe noodle bar this is always the the key that we’ve arrived at our destination a small Shrine up here we’ll just step off the Main Street here oh we’ve got the lottery ladies here by the look of it yeah got all our money oh Japan’s got new money too I haven’t had any new money yet ah so yes you spin the barrel it looks like fun okay down this way so this is noan um colloquially is gisha alley although I don’t know gisha have ever frequented this alley but it’s it’s got such a really really cool atmosphere that you can imagine they did the old for the old days with the firemen where they came to gather water of course all the old wooden buildings oh I’m glad you’re enjoying it Lisa yeah that’s what I’ve enjoyed more about this trip is the wandering it’s been good and um I think you’ll enjoy yugawara tomorrow so this is my little restaurant in here and you can see the stone floor they don’t have people waiting which is a good sign so I will show you to the end of the street and then we’ll come back here and I will say goodbye by and I’ll walk in and then I will share my lunch on Instagram they actually don’t allow they say no but no mobile phones inside and they don’t want you using your phone while you’re eating lunch all sorts of interesting little places along here looks like a cake shop here just nice to come for a walk isn’t it this fan shop is beautiful I have asked them before about taking photos or and they they said no so we won’t won’t try again these are all eating places along here and I guess a few little houses as well it’ be nice to come back here at night and try something out is this the Joo City Sports day 2024 14th of October isn’t that fabulous hello for Marie we’re having a gorgeous little walk down gisha then I’m heading back for lunch it’s hot and I need to get a drink oh actually the post office is down here well I’ve got a couple more postcards let’s post the postcards the doorways yeah I do Penelope I do I do yeah one of the best things about wandering is just stopping taking a moment I am under my umbrella which is a good feel I bet looks good at the moment andah it looks really good don’t you love all the greenery these are all in pots they all look so healthy and like you’re just doing really really well this looks like a nice restaurant here Patricia nice to see you C I was just thinking about you this morning wasn’t it funny this looks like a nice restaurant here faded pink linen yeah you got to get off these big main streets don’t you we only stayed there to see the clock we only see stayed there to see the clock okay I’m pretty sure the post office is here another china shop look at that gorgeous blue and white plark there that is fabulous Viking nice to see you woo I’m out in the heat where’s that post office oh maybe like to not this one I made a mistake I made a mistake but there’s a official looking building over there with a clock on it that tells me it’s nearly qu 1 we were lucky we did get to see the clock operating after thinking maybe it’s 5 years since I’ve been here I’ve got a feeling that new building there may have been the post office in the old days but who knows who knows anyway let’s go back for lunch oh yes look at this this is pretty cool wow let’s go for a little tour this looks like it might be another restaurant here as well on the old building but I want to thank you all for joining me on my wouldn’t say Adventures but just my Explorations I guess my observations of Japan as we travel around I’m going to be here in Tokyo until the 18th which is like 10 days away I guess and then I’m heading off to I should like give it a surprise heading off to the island going back down hoshima way um and heading to satoda for a couple of nights because I love it there I’ve got a little bit more exploring so I’ll be on iuchi Jima Island I’m also going to Naima the art Island but just for a day because it is quite busy but I just want to go and check it out yeah so we’re doing a lot of checking out stuff oh yes KY W round windows too look you know it’s attention to detail that’s what we love that’s what we love maybe the post office with the street I don’t know there got to be one around here a good thing about um oh oh look over here one thing I do advise about getting lost is always know where your local subway station is oh post box post office we’re in the wrong Street we were in the wrong Street here we go post office I have two more postcards to post today’s postcards are both Mount Fuji so that’s the postcards this one says letters and postcards this one says International I never Ningyocho is the original entertainment district of Tokyo. It still retains a lot of charm, local shops and musical clocks.
