Kyoto in 2 days! Best temples | Shrines | Nishiki market – Where to stay? Gion Geisha district
[Music] so four to five days in Japan’s most beautiful city would be perfect but if you’re like me and you’ve only got two full days I’m going to show you how I maximized two full days in Kyoto so hang out with me for a bit you’re definitely going to enjoy Kyoto Japan thank [Music] you so I’ll show you the amazing place I stayed in the gon district and then I’ll show you some temples and some shrines as well as you know just a fantastic energy in Kyoto I really loved it so I arrived in Osaka and I took the train into uh Kyoto from Osaka and I got to tell you it’s a little intimidating trying to use the train but one good thing I got to share with you Japanese people are always willing to help you so I began my journey at the Temple of the golden Pavilion as it’s known and uh this this is a very historic temple in Kyoto dating back to 1397 definitely a must SE in Kyoto but the the only thing I didn’t like about it is not only did I want to see it but the whole world wanted to see it it was pretty busy and so what I’ve learned is if if you really want to see it without people get there early in the [Music] morning so after about an hour I jumped in a taxi and I was headed over to the gon District known as the gisha district where my hotel was and uh on the way I actually changed my plan and I wanted to get a Starbucks and I stopped off to get a a coffee and I bumped into the Nishiki Market which was like the biggest Joy of my day so this Market’s more than 400 years old and it’s big it’s actually quite large it’s it’s clean it’s got amazing food I could not believe just how wonderful this was I mean they really manage this place really really well I was really impressed in fact it’s known as Kyoto’s kitchen uh I spent hours here I actually couldn’t get out of there every time I walk around a corner I discovered something new something interesting super clean I actually had Kobe beef here and it was really tasty and um my first time ever having KOB beef so I definitely think make make sure and is Shiki Market is on your bucket list when you visit Kyoto uh it really was the highlight of this particular day I spent hours here it’s a stone throw from guon District you can walk here so hang out with me and right after we’re done at n Shiki Market I’m going to walk you over to where I uh stayed in guon Gia District so whether you’re planning a trip to Japan or you’re just enjoying an armchair vacation I can guarantee you you will enjoy my other Japan videos I’ve got a Tokyo video as well as a Hiroshima video and a shinjo Tokyo video so be sure to check those out I also tried some of this crab meat and man was it tasty I mean really really good and I couldn’t believe how cheap it was it was not expensive at all than [Applause] you so be sure to hang out with me for a bit because in a minute I’m going to take you for a walk and we’re going to head over to the uh to the hotel I stayed at right in the guon gisha district so after I show you my hotel I’m going to take you uh through the my most favorite temple in all of Kyoto I mean really amazing Temple you’re going to really enjoy that so hang out with me for a bit so fun fact if it’s a temple that means it’s of the Buddhist religion if it’s a shrine that means it’s of the Shinto religion and later in this video we’re going to conclude it with a visit to one of the most famous shrines in all of Japan and we’re going to walk through the 12,000 steps all the way through 10,000 Gates definitely an a great ending to this [Music] video so it’s just a 15minute walk from Niki Market over to where I stayed in the uh gon gisha District uh my hotel was gon Mis right here and uh I absolutely loved it I mean I I couldn’t tell you how good I really loved this hotel uh it was the best hotel I say that in my 3 weeks stay in all of Japan so join me for the walk uh over to my hotel about 15 minutes this is the sights and sounds that you’ll see and hear I mean it’s exciting here in Kyoto I really loved it uh I’m going to head back here for sure and spend a a little bit more time so I’ll give you a brief little tour of my hotel I spent the night and I always hate to give out prices that I paid for my stay because obviously the price changes in High season to low season depending on vacancies and all of that but just for your reference this cost me $54 for the night including a very traditional uh Japanese breakfast uh super cozy clean wonderful room I couldn’t have gotten a better hotel in my [Music] opinion so one of the reasons I like uh staying at this hotel is it’s in the gon gasa District among all the temples and shrines and all the activity so now we’re going to head over to the uh to the first temple uh and and I’m going to give you a tour of this H particular Temple cute so what I learned is K muu Temple is a Buddhist temple and it was founded in the year 780 780 so it’s pretty old uh very impressive uh I really enjoyed this place so uh I I not only walked in and around the temples but they have all kinds of places to walk uh really really [Music] amazing you can also see that this particular Temple has pretty expansive views of Kyoto also I should mention it’s a UNESCO world heritage site so it definitely has achieved some some fantastic recognition among Japan as one of the very most celebrated temples to visit in the entire country uh I it did not disappoint me that’s for [Music] sure so here’s a little fun fact for you there’s over 1,600 temples and 400 shrines in Kyoto to to choose from so it’s not that easy to pick and choose which one you want to go to that’s why I chose to stay in the guon district because there’s a lot of very very famous ones and a very clustered uh location so it made it easy for me to hit uh what I thought would be the best temples and shrines within two days so uh I wasn’t disappointed for sure as I said earlier this particular Temple is known as the pure water temple and its water is considered to have very therapeutic properties and uh you’ll see many people like this coming here to experience uh this tradition and uh I really enjoyed this Temple and so do a lot of other people by the way uh there’s no doubt you’ll be um meeting a lot of new friends cuz it’s it’s a busy place so I’m leaving the temple now and I’m just going to take you for a little walk with me on I mean there’s many of these beautiful little streets and to see in the guon district and by the way Google Maps is your friend uh so don’t be afraid to jump on your phone and look at Google Maps to see all the exciting things that’s around you as you’re walking because that’s how I’m finding things is I’m just looking on my map and thinking oh wow what’s that and then I walk over there and look at this and look at that and that’s how I discovered all of this just by being in the right place using Google Maps to figure out where I’m going to walk around and this is all just random discoveries as I’m walking back to my hotel so I’m going to take you down a a walk down this very very famous street in Kyoto it’s known as a very famous gisha street as well but now it’s it’s very narrow it’s filled with beautiful amazing restaurant some pubs some cafes it’s perfectly clean it’s very very nice great place to walk at night as you can see so Koto continues to have an active gisha scene and you will see um people dressed in traditional clothing here and everywhere it’s it’s quite impressive but you must respect the signage that says no picture taking uncertain streets what an amazing breakfast I had at this hotel when I’m checking out this morning but I can’t say enough good stuff about this hotel anyway uh we’re going to check out and uh then we’re going to head over to what I really enjoyed the most uh in Kyoto is this particular Shrine so this particular Shrine is considered one of the most famous in all of Japan everyone comes to Japan they all want to walk the 12,000 steps to the uh through these amazing Gates uh so you know everyone wants to do it including me and you uh so when do you do it that it’s the best well I would tell you that what I’ve learned is get here early in the morning like 6:00 in the morning and and then most people by the way they only come here they see the gates and they take their picture and then they turn around so you and I are a little different we want a little bit more than the average tourist right so just keep on walking and walk to the end and you’ll start to see people wean off and the gates will get less and less populated and it’s only 12,000 steps I mean we all do that almost every day right anyway uh it’ll take you about two hours and you can get to the end but the rewards are so worth it you’re going to discover bamboo forest along the way and you’ll see all kinds of historic things uh this here is something you got to do but you got to try to do it when there’s less tourist so my my suggestion come here early in the morning and it’s also open at night but you know you got to kind of be careful walking here at night cuz there are steps but uh this is a must do if you’re in Kyoto and I really enjoyed it loved it actually [Music] so if you’ve been to Kyoto before uh we’d love to hear about your experiences in Kyoto so tell us in the comments where you stayed what shrines you liked which temples you thought were the best love to hear about your experiences so so let us know and uh share that in the comments [Music] so whether you’re planting a trip to Japan or you’re just enjoying an armchair vacation you’ll probably also really enjoy my Tokyo video this one’s really really special so if you get a chance watch that Tokyo video and also inside Tokyo is shinjo my shinjo video is really special and got some unique perspective that you won’t find in the Tokyo video but check that out and perhaps Hiroshima is on your bucket list as well but if you’re interested in Japan these other videos will really really uh make your day I’m sure of it so thanks for joining me today and hopefully you’ll subscribe [Music]
