【東本願寺 尾神嶽殉難】２７名の犠牲者を出した恐ろしい雪崩事故を再現。Horrific avalanche accident that killed 27 people.
京都市下京区の東本願寺尾神嶽殉難。
1864年（元治元年）、蛤御門の変において東本願寺は火災にみまわれました。
1883年（明治16年）、その両堂再建のため新潟県上越市吉川町川谷の黒姫神社境内にあった欅（けやき）の巨木を東本願寺に運ぶことになりました。
3月12日、尾神嶽（尾神岳）山中において巨木を運搬していました。午後２時ごろ、山腹にある吹切（ふっきり）とよばれる付近に到着すると幅200m、長さ100m以上の大雪崩が起きました。約１００名の人々が雪崩に巻き込まれ、５０名以上が負傷、２７名の方々が亡くなりました。
そんな雪崩事故の災害を再現したジオラマと当時使われたソリが東本願寺に展示されています。また被災現場にも雪崩の惨事を伝える報尽為期碑が建立されています。

Avalanche accident at Ogamidake, Higashi Honganji Temple, Shimogyo-ku, Kyoto.
In 1864, Higashi Honganji Temple was destroyed by fire during the Hamagurimi-gomon Incident.
In 1883, it was decided to transport a huge zelkova tree from the precincts of Kurohime Shrine in Joetsu City, Niigata Prefecture, to Higashi Honganji Temple for its reconstruction.
On March 12, they were hauling huge trees on Ogamidake. Around 2:00 p.m., when they arrived at a spot on the mountainside called Fukkiri, a huge avalanche 200 meters wide and more than 100 meters long occurred. About 100 people were caught in the avalanche, more than 50 were injured, and 27 died.
A diorama that recreates the avalanche accident and the sled used at the time are on display at Higashi Honganji Temple.A monument to commemorate the avalanche has also been erected at the site of the disaster.
