Futae no Toge Observatory Kurumagaeri, Aso City Prefectural Route 23 (Kikuchi Akamizu Line) JR Akamizu Station / National Route New 57 Description of Futae no Toge Observatory. The stone pavement of Futaeno Pass is part of the Bungo Kaido road that connects Kumamoto Prefecture and Oita Prefecture, and was built by Kiyomasa Kato. The road is along the current Prefectural Route 339 (commonly known as Milk Road), and was built on the pass that crosses the northern somma from the Kumamoto Plain side. Because it is on a plateau, there are many slopes and it is easily damaged by wind and rain, so a 3m wide stone pavement was paved over a distance of about 1.6km and still remains today. The origin of the name Futaeno Pass is as follows. Takeiwa Tatsunomikoto, the founder of Aso development and a god who appears in mythology, came up with the idea of draining the lake and turning it into a beautiful field. They tried to drain a portion of the outer rim by kicking it open, but were unable to do so. If you look closely, you can see that the mountains are doubled. It is said that this is why this area came to be called "Futae no Toge (double Pass)". Let’s take off! Today I’m in Kurumagaeri,Aso City.
