Spring in South Aso Minamiaso Village / Takamori Town, Aso District Description of Spring South Aso. Mt. Aso is not a single mountain, but refers to a group of mountains called the Five Aso Mountains. The five peaks that make up Mt. Aso are arranged in order from the western end Eboshidake (1336.7m), Kishimadake (1326m),Nakadake (1506m),Takadake (1592.3m), and Mt. Nekodake (1433m). Mt. Aso is an active volcano, and smoke still rises from the central cone of Nakadake. Particularly famous is the Aso Caldera, which is one of the largest in the world, measuring 18 km from east to west and 25 km from north to south. It is estimated that these were formed about 30,000 years ago, and that the central depression surrounded by the outer rim was once a lake. Minamiaso Railway Miharashidai Station Don’t you think this station looks familiar, like you’ve seen it somewhere? I think every Japanese person has seen it at least once. This station was the filming location for a soft drink commercial. This is a famous product called "Afternoon Black Tea" which is nicknamed "Gogo Tea". It is an unmanned station with a very nostalgic atmosphere. Move to next. Takamori Observatory Move to next. Mt. Rakuda Tsukimawari Park This place has been selected as number one in the "New 100 Views of Kumamoto". Tsukimawari Park is the best spot to view Mt. Aso from the east end.
