Exploring The Beautiful French Riviera Village Of Ramatuelle, France In 4k video

Ramatuelle is a beautiful medieval village located in the foothills of the Castellas Massif in the Var countryside of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region of the South of France.

Ramatuelle village has its own coat of arms and it is described as the following, a golden coat of arms with a leafy tree surmounted by a star. Ramatuelle is Un village fleuri, classified 3 flowers by Villes et Villages Fleuris le label National de la Qualite de Vie.

The Provençal village of Ramatuelle is 130 meters above the Mediterranean sea, overlooking the Bay of Pampelonne, near St-Tropez, Sainte-Maxime and Gassin. Ramatuelle was originally built, perched on the spur of the Paillais hill to escape the pirates who terrorised the villages along the Mediterranean coastline.

As you walk along the winding streets with us, you will see architecture typical of the French Medieval villages. The village generally is known as an arts and crafts centre and there are a number of little galleries to visit as you wander round.

Like many of the villages in France, Ramatuelle has a fountain on the main square. Water flows from the gaping mouths of theses twos lions, which until 1954 was the only drinking water supply in this beautiful village. Ramatuelle in Provence France has a hot-summer Mediterranean climate.

The temperatures in Ramatuelle France are highest on average in August, at around 24.4 °C 75.9 °F, and lowest in January, at around 9.9 °C 49.8 °F. Discover narrow cobblestoned streets, stone buildings covered in jasmine and bougainvillea and stone gateways that once formed part of the town’s defences.

This French village was known in the Middle Ages as Ramatuella, derived from the Arabic Rahmatollah i.e. رحمة الله in English meaning the mercy of God. Ramatuelle was part of the beautiful French Riviera area ruled by the Moors of Fraxinet in the 9th and 10th centuries.

L’Olivier centenaire. In 1983, Ramatuelle’s historic elm tree gave way to an olive tree, a new symbol of hope and Provence’s spirit, after disease struck. Le lavour, recently restored and enriched by a splendid trompe l’oeil, depicting three women intent on washing clothes and exchanging conversation.

Ramatuelle has three restaurants recommended by the Michelin guide : Chez Camille, L’écurie du Castellas et Saveurs Sincères On the Rue Victor Léon we can admire the panoramic view of the vineyards and Pampelonne Bay and to the light-house at Cap Camarat.

Cap Camarat lighthouse is the second highest in France and you can see Corsica from the top Ramatuelle sits above the famous Pampelonne beach, famous for its role in the Allied landings in WWII.

Pampelonne beach renowned as one of Saint Tropez’s main beaches  – and the first beach to introduce topless sunbathing on the Cote d’Azur. The population of Ramatuelle was recorded as approximately 1,960 people in 2021.

Porte Sarrasine gate retains its original aspect, inside you can see portcullis grooves and the double door hinges installed in 1792.

Outside the two stone arm supports, remind us that there was once a 16th century watch tower above the gate. Jasmine and Bougainvillea are blooming here. Honeysuckle also flowers in this beautiful French Riviera village a real floral treat for the senses.

Founded in 1885, Cercle du littoral, is the oldest association in Ramatuelle, in 1901, it became a philanthropic association. At the top of the village is the Place Gabriel Péri, formerly called Place du Château or Castle square, where the stately residence was located.

The chateau was remodelled in the 18th century by the Seigneurs of Audibert, lords of Ramatuelle. Look out for the iron stairs at house number 2, created by the famous Gustave Eiffel workshops in 1868.

A florist artfully arranges stunning blooms under an old tree’s shade in this charming village of Ramatuelle. Gérard Philipe a french actor who became famous for theatre and cinema. Died in 1959 at the young age of 37. Ramatuelle’s picturesque narrow streets weave themselves in a spiral around the village centre.

The church of Our Lady, Notre-Dame was finally completed and decorated in 1620 with porphyre green called ‘serpentine’. The church features two beautiful 17th-century gilded wooden altarpieces. The guardroom and a part of the covered walkway has been preserved. The bell tower is the only remaining one of the four original watchtowers.

We are about to enter Rue des Amoureux, one of the narrowest streets in the village famous for its beautiful floral displays. Gérard Philipe is buried in his suit Cid de Corneille, one of his biggest roles. His grave is covered with ivy and shaded by a laurel in the local cemetery.
