世界で唯一の左航行を監視
Thank you for watching. Today, we will be touring the Transportation Center of the 6th Regional Coast Guard. The building with a huge electronic bulletin board is located on the top of a small mountain facing the Kurushima Strait. A huge electronic bulletin board is installed on top of the building facing in two directions.
I have a reservation for a tour today at 2pm. The first floor is the lobby. The second floor is an office. First, I will show you the electronic bulletin board on the roof of the 4th floor. It was raining until yesterday, but it was sunny today which helped. You can see Imabari city.
The island you can see under the bridge is Umajima. This is a huge electronic bulletin board that you can see up close. The direction, speed, and future state of the current are displayed every 2 seconds.
Currently, the indications are N (northbound), 3 (3 knots), and ↓ (current speed will become slower in the future). There are three other bulletin boards like this. I’ll look around for a week. Go to the guard post on the third floor.
Here, information is collected and monitored using radar, television cameras, automatic vessel identification equipment, radio telephones, etc. Four lifeguards monitor the area 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Since starting operations in 1998, the number of marine accidents has decreased to less than 20%. Thank you for watching.

今回は、来島海峡の交通安全を見守っている第６管区海上保安部の交通センターを見学させて頂きました。
来島海峡は狭く、潮の流れが速く流れます。又、約6時間ごとに潮流の方向が変わるため、古くから海の難所として知られています。
船舶は通常右側通行が原則ですが、この海域の特徴から南に潮が流れる時間帯には「左側通行」に切り替わる世界で唯一ここだけに採用されている航法です。これを「 順中逆西 」とよばれ、順潮時(潮流と同じ方向に航行)は中水道(来島海峡の馬島を挟んで大島側)を航行し、逆潮時(潮流と反対方向に航行)は西水道来島海峡の今治側を航行します。
此処、交通センターはレーダーと船舶無線で個々の船舶を監視し電光掲示板で潮流の情報を流しています。
