Hello, this is Life in Shikoku. Today, we visit Makino Botanical Garden and Sodayama Yukiwarizakura no Sato in Kochi Prefecture. It’s been a long time since we visited Kochi. Arrive at the main gate of Makino Botanical Garden in Kochi City. Let’s go inside. First, head to the orchid exhibit in the greenhouse.

The greenhouse is in sight. Entrance to the greenhouse, Green Tower. Lovely flowers on both sides. Caulaelia Mizoguchi ‘Princess Kiko’ Guaricyclia Kyoguchi: Musk-scented orchid. Gorgeous flower wall. Cynorkis purpurascens: Interesting petal shape. Paphiopedilum rothchildianum: Unique shape. Gorgeous Phalaenopsis area. Western orchids with Japanese names given by Dr. Makino. Phalaenopsis schileriana/ Japanese name: ‘Asahigocho

Vanda coerulea/ Japanese name: ‘Hisuiran Dendrobium spectabile: Unique shape. Cattleya Hawaiian Wish Epidendrum Magic Valley ‘Phoenix’ Phalaenopsis Blue Gene Blue Phalaenopsis orchids bred in Japan. Coelogyne cobbiana Beautiful! To Jungle Zone. Paphiopedilum gratrixyanum To the last area. Victoria amazonica Let’s leave the greenhouse. Return with a walk through the garden. Lots of pretty flowers.

Pilgrimage paths remain in the park. Peach blossoms are at their best. Statue of Dr. Makino. Pieris japonica subsp. koidzumiana Helleborus orientalis cv. Early blooming cherry trees are in full bloom. Cornus officinalis Hamamelis cv. Let’s leave Makino Botanical Garden. Arrive at “Sodayama Yukiwarizakura no Sato” in Susaki City.

It’s a mountain village midway up Mt. Bandagamori (769m). From the parking lot, walk to the village. Peaceful mountain village scenery. Arrival at the square. Cherry blossoms look nice on canola flowers. Let’s walk in the village of Yukiwari cherry blossoms. Beautiful yellow and pink.

There are nearly 1,000 Yukiwari cherry trees in this mountain village. The official name of Yukiwari-zakura is “Tsubaki-kanzakura”. Beautiful cherry blossoms and surrounding scenery. Try to go a little higher. Excellent view from above. Blue skies are in sight. Back to the bottom. Deep-colored “Hikan-zakura” is also lovely. Let’s leave the village of Yukiwari-zakura.

そして、須崎市の桑田山雪割桜の里へ。のどかな山里に、1,000本近い雪割桜が咲き誇ります。一面に咲く菜の花の黄色に、ピンクの桜がとても美しかったです。この景色を、一緒に楽しんで頂けたら嬉しいです。

Hello, this is Life in Shikoku. We visited Makino Botanical Garden and Yukiwarizakura Cherry Blossom Village in Kochi Prefecture. First, we went to the orchid show at Makino Botanical Garden in Kochi City. Gorgeous orchids bloomed in the tropical plantings. We were fascinated by their vivid colors and beautiful shapes.

Then, go to Sodayama Yukiwarizakura no Sato (Cherry Blossom village) in Susaki City. Nearly 1,000 Yukiwarizakura cherry trees were in full bloom in this peaceful mountain village. The pink cherry blossoms against the yellow of canola flowers blooming all over the area were very beautiful. We would be happy if you enjoy this scenery with us.
