Asakusa sightseeing. Breakfast at a coffee shop. Sumida river cruise. Matcha ice cream. Soba noodles. Night view of Tokyo. A retro trip to Japan. Hello everyone from cafes, hotels, and walking around town . Today I’m going to take a walk in good old Asakusa, which has been crowded with people since the Edo period.
This is the last stop on the Ginza Line bound for Ueno Asakusa. First, let’s check out what is said to be Japan’s oldest underground shopping mall. Please aim for exit number 6 ♪ Mr. Bunju who serves soba and udon. It is full of elegance and has the scent of the Showa era.
The soup was said to be homemade, so there were customers of all ages and genders. For some reason, there is also a handwritten sign on the side (≧▽≦) .For now, let’s go to the ground. I’m going to have breakfast at a coffee shop. This is Kannon Street Metro Shopping Association.
Since it’s January, there are still New Year’s decorations. Returning to Asakusa Station, the first subway in Japan was opened between Ueno and Asakusa. Asakusa Station has been selected as one of the top 100 stations in the Kanto region. I arrived at Caribbean in about 5 minutes from the station.
The store has a nice ivy leaf design. Let’s go inside right away. The inside of the store is sparkling, but for some reason it feels calming. A warm towel towel. It makes me want to wipe my face. I ordered the morning set today. Let’s start with coffee! Payment seems to be cash only.

You can clearly see the Sky Tree along the Sumida River. The weather is nice, so let’s take a little walk. Along the way, you can also see various ukiyo-e paintings from the Edo period.
As you walk along the river, you will see ships passing by that look like they are from the near future. And I would also like to enjoy the cruise today. Go up the stairs and buy a ticket at the office. Buy tickets for your favorite course from the vending machine.
Today we will take an easy course around Asakusa. Ride Urban Ranch at 11:25. This is a 30 minute course around Asakusa. When the time came, I was excited to board the ship. Yes, since it’s a retro trip, we’ll be riding on a cute old-fashioned small boat. I left.
Asakusa area course costs 1,200 yen. I was a little surprised at how wide and big the Sumida River is. Although the scenery is different, I imagine that it was a means of transportation for common people in the past.
The area along the Sumida River is a famous spot for cherry blossoms, which were first planted in the Edo period. Did people in Edo also enjoy walking along the river during the cherry blossom season? Make a U-turn around here. The weather is nice and the Sky Tree can be seen clearly.
You can see Yurikamome nearby around the ship. Yurikamome is a migratory bird that migrates to Japan from autumn to spring. The cute, plump white Yurikamome is tougher than it looks and will eat anything. It was fun to see the Sky Tree and see the downtown area from along the Sumida River.
Lastly, this is a special benefit that can only be seen on cruises. The upside-down tree moving to the Asahi Beer building (≧▽≦) The winter cruise was a bit cold, but the 30 minutes went by in a flash. The weather was nice so it was fun. Now, where shall we go next?
For now, let’s go to the tourist information center near the station. The steam from the steamed buns is tempting. It’s amazing that it was founded in the Edo period. This is a Flower Miffy shop. Asakusa Culture and Tourism Center in front of Kaminarimon.
Once inside, there are maps of Asakusa and its surrounding areas in various languages as well as Japanese. Let’s go to the second floor. There is also a money exchange office along the way. There are pamphlets on the second floor, as well as information on sightseeing outside of Asakusa.
There is also a manned information counter in the back, so it is recommended for foreigners. And you can clearly see Kaminarimon from here. There’s also a power source, so I’ll take a short break while charging. There was a space on the top floor where you could see Asakusa for free.
There was also a cafe next door. The history of Asakusa was displayed on the 6th floor. Here, the history of Asakusa that has continued since the Edo period is explained in an easy-to-understand manner. The inside of the hotel is very calm and you can get away from the hustle and bustle outside.
It was a space that could be enjoyed not only by foreigners but also by Japanese people. First, I will visit Sensoji Temple. Cute Gajapon. I’ll take a short detour before visiting the shrine. This is Kimuraya Ningyoyaki.
This is a long-established shop right in front of the temple, which was founded in the first year of the Meiji era and has been around for over 100 years. Please come and try the freshly baked food♪ After visiting, go to the back on your right to receive the goshuin (shuin) stamp.
This is the goshuin notebook I bought when I went to Todaiji Temple in Nara last year. There are also relaxing spots like this inside Sensoji Temple. Next time I’ll go eat matcha ice cream. The location is just behind Sensoji Temple.
Turn around from the left and look up at the Sky Tree and you will see a green sign. Today I came here to try out the world’s darkest matcha gelato. There are many other temptations besides matcha gelato! You can also choose the strength of the matcha gelato.
I’ll definitely use No. 7 here, which is the darkest. Suzukien is a long-established tea shop with a history of over 150 years. No. 7 uses special tea leaves, and apparently uses the highest quality matcha. Look at this glossy dark green.
Is it very bitter? That’s what I thought, but that wasn’t the case at all. It smells like elegant tea leaves and has a strong taste. However, it was not overwhelming and was very delicious. By the way, the eat-in space was on the second floor. I would definitely like to come again.
The town is still decorated with New Year’s kadomatsu. I found some interesting shops along the way! You can see the tile splitting platform over there. Why not try breaking tiles? Head towards the hotel while looking sideways along the Nishi-sando road.
This place is called Poppy Street and is a place where you can enjoy delicious drinks and food. People happily drinking during the day at a public bar. I want to drink too, but I have somewhere I want to go after this so I can’t hold back.
As you walk around Asakusa, you’ll make some surprising discoveries. Japanese etiquette is also written below this couple’s raccoon dog. It’s compact but easy to use and clean. The toilet has a washlet. All amenity sets were provided and bath salts were also provided.
The shower is a rain shower and a hand shower. There was also shampoo, conditioner and body soap in the deep bathtub. And the hand towels are regular, fluffy waffle material-like towels. The amenity set is also one of its charms.It ‘s nice to have a turban to tie up your hair.
In addition to the complete set, there was also a small hand cream. Take this home with you and use it as a carry-on item when you go abroad! It was so cozy that I took a nap for about an hour…and it was already evening.
I went to a soba restaurant that I had been curious about after seeing it on YouTube. Nagaura Soba is close to the hotel. Perhaps because it was evening, there were only two groups waiting in front of me. It’s cold outside, so I’d like to have some warm soba, but
I’m going to try Unsui soba, which I’ve always wanted to try. Unsui soba has arrived. amazing! It’s like looking from above the clouds. Please enjoy it with plenty of soup. Feel free to give it a try. The fineness of the grated yam and radish.
The noodles are thin, but have the chewy texture that I like. At the end, I added some soba hot water and finished the meal♪ Asakusa has a big festival called Sanja Matsuri. I would like to come and see a festival where there are many mikoshi (portable shrines) someday.
I came to Sensoji Temple at night. There are fewer people and you can take photos at your leisure. It’s also lit up, so this is a great time to take photos. Go to the retro Kamiya bar. Unfortunately it’s closing time. I’ll have fun next time.
I wanted to eat nostalgic Western food and drink beer. I went to a convenience store and bought some snacks and alcohol. Before that, let’s take a bath with the bath salts included in the amenity set. It felt refreshing. However, these pajamas are very comfortable. I bought a Toris highball today.

It’s a cold but pleasant morning. I recommend going first thing in the morning as there are fewer people. A large lantern will welcome you.
The carved wooden dragon at the bottom is said to be the god of water who brings rain, and is meant to prevent fires. And the second large lantern. The history of Sensoji Temple goes back over 1300 years. It seems to have started in the Asuka period (628).

The atmosphere has a Showa-era royal feel, but the customers are mostly elderly and locals. The morning set is 760 yen. Serve the ham and egg mayonnaise on top of the toast ! The set also includes salad, yogurt, and a drink.
