Thank you for joining us on a night walk around the vibrant city of Seville, in Andalusia Spain. We start our night walk in the beautiful city of Seville in Spain, in the district of Triana.

Triana is a lively working-class neighbourhood. It is not a district with spectacular sights, rather an authentic quarter interlaced with small streets that are a pleasure to explore. Although this was originally the most important district in Seville, you will find surprisingly few tourists here.

Triana is the birthplace of a large number of flamenco artists, bullfighters, famous ceramics artists and historically important sailors. We walked through Seville on the same night that the Christmas street lights were officially turned on, they are really beautiful.

Triana is renowned for the Mercado de Triana, operating in this location since 1823 and located on the remnants of the Castle of Saint George. Calle Betis is the most popular street in the Triana neighbourhood. It is known for its colourful narrow houses and is one of the most traditional areas of Seville.

We are walking across Triana bridge and flowing below us you can see the Canal de Alfonso XIII, a branch of the Guadalquivir River. Puente de Isabel II or Puente de Triana (Isabel II or Triana Bridge) was built in 1852 and connects the Triana neighbourhood with Seville city centre.

Torro del Oro – The 13th century defensive watchtower, known as the Tower of Gold. Sevilla on Ice is described as the Best Winter Theme Park in Europe. It is held at the Muelle de las Delicias in Seville where large-scale tourist cruises dock

Palacio de San Telmo, a baroque palace built in 1682. Now a government building, previously used as a maritime academy and orphanage for children of seafarers. We really loved the Christmas angel lights in Seville, very pretty and a crowd favourite.

Puerta Jerez is popular pedestrianised square in Seville, from here you can take the tram, metro or horse drawn carriage. Hotel Alfonso XIII a luxury 5 star hotel that also has a review rating of 9 on a well known booking site

The fair has the largest Ferris wheel ever seen in Seville, at 50 meters tall and an extra extra large ice rink, claimed to be the largest in Spain.

The Plaza de España is an iconic landmark built for the 1929 Ibero-American Exposition and blends Moorish and Renaissance influences. Between the North and South Towers, that are 75ft tall, there are ceramic works, each depicting a province of Spain.

You can pick up a horse and carriage ride, taking in the major tourist sites in Seville from the Plaza de España. The basic tour is about 40 mins and costs €45.

Fuente Plaza de España is the fountain located in the middle of the square and is the work of Vicente Traver. It is beautifully lit up at night. Plaza de España took 15 years to build with over 1000 workers a day.

The Plaza de España was the filming location for Lawrence of Arabia (1962) and Theed Palace, Naboo in Star Wars Attack of the Clones (2002) During the day you can hire a row boat, rent a horse and carriage and watch the elaborate dances of the Flamenco in the square.

The 18th century Universidad de Sevilla – The University of Seville is a multi-disciplinary university with a specialisation in the research of technology and science. The Avenue de la Constitución is largely pedestrianised and starts at the Puerta de Jerez and reaches the Plaza Nueva.

It is 600 metres long and is considered the centre of the city, it links many of the beautifully lit streets of Seville at night. The Puerta del León is the crimson gateway into the Real Alcázar de Sevilla, which is still the official residence of the Spanish Royal family when they visit Seville.

The Alcázar of Seville was a filming location for the hugely successful TV series, Game of Thrones. The palace was used as the location for the Water Gardens of Dorne. Plaza del Triunfo is hugely popular square during the day, surrounded by many historical buildings and full of tourists and horse drawn carriages.

Catedral de Sevilla – Seville is home to the world’s biggest gothic cathedral. The 16th century Roman Catholic cathedral occupies 11,520 square feet and the church’s magnificent Giralda tower is 104.5 metres tall.

Behind the gates is Réplica del Giraldillo – bronze replica of the famous 16th century statue that sits at the top of the Giralda of Seville Templete del Triunfo de Nuestra Señora del Patrocinio. Built in 1756 dedicated to the virgin of Patrocinio.

La Giralda is the bell tower of the Cathedral of Seville. The most famous monument of the city and known as one of the most famous images of all Andalusia and Spain. Fuente de la Farola a 1929 work of José Lafita Díaz for the Ibero-American Exposition

Monumento a San Juan Pablo II – The bronze monument is a gesture from the city to Pope John Paul II, who visited Seville in 1982.

The Plaza Nueva is a public square formerly on the site of the San Fernando Convent, the square was completed in 1856 and has a statue of San Fernando III in its centre. The 16th century Ayuntamiento de Sevilla is the Town Hall of Seville.

Plaza de San Francisco is an important square in Seville, tonight it hosted the celebrations for switching on the Christmas Lights across all of Seville. The Plaza del Salvador in front of the Salvador Church has beautiful display of lights and is always buzzing with busy cafes, bars, restaurants.

Iglesia Colegial del Divino Salvador is a former mosque, but is now a baroque Roman Catholic Church with an ornate alter and nave. Calle Sierpes is a busy pedestrian street, the most popular shopping street in Seville. The Confitería La Campana, a historical bakery known for gateaux and traditional Spanish cakes, also it’s delicious desserts.

Walk along the Calle Laraña all the way to the Setas de Sevilla a cultural landmark. A sculptural wooden structure with an archaeological museum, rooftop walkway and viewpoint. The Metropol Parasol, popularly known as the Setas de la Encarnación, was designed by Berlin architect Jürgen Mayer and completed in 2011.

Our night walk around the Setas de la Encarnación, with its beautiful light show and striking architecture, was one of the highlights of our trip to Seville.
