Walking in the rain in the Backa area (mostly) of Skene, Sweden

Welcome! Today we’re taking another walk in the rain in the small town Skene. We will be walking past fields, through residential areas, and even visit Backabanan, the local race track. But first we start here, surrounded by, mostly, shops that needing a bit larger space.

This area is fairly newly constructed, around 10 years ago there was nothing but nature here. There really isn’t much to say about this place. I’ll be quiet until we reach a new areas. The road we’re walking over now is the one heading towards Gothenburg (among other places)

The title of this video (unless I’ve changed it) mentions that we’ll mostly be walking in the Backa parts of Skene. To be honest, I’m not exactly sure where they draw the lines for entering Backa but at least after crossing that bridge I’m fairly certain we’ve entered Backa.

More specifically, this area is called “Gamla Backa” (Old Backa). As for the meaning of the word “Backa”, it literally means to reverse or move backward but more likely it’s an older form of the word “Backe” meaning slope or hill. Now we’ve arrived at the “Backabanan” racing tracks (“banan” translates to the track).

Here they do everything from enduro to motocross and folkrace. If you don’t know what folkrace is, don’t worry about it, it only exists in a few countries (as far as I know).

But a short and simple description would be a race with really banged-up cars that tend to get more banged up during the race. They also have a rule to make sure people don’t invest too much money into their cars to trim and tweak them

All participating cars have to be put up for sale after the race and they’re sold for 11000SEK (about 900 euro / 970 dollars) Since it’s a fixed price it gets decided by lottery if there’s more than one interested buyer.

This place is called Backa Ringgata, (“gata” means street or road, “ring” means ring) probably named after how the road goes around like a ring. Now we’re almost back where we started and my shoes and socks have been soaked through a long time ago.

So it’s time to end this walk, I hope you’ve enjoyed it! Thank you for watching!

Today we take another walk in the rain in Skene. This time we’ll mostly be in the Backa area, walking through residential areas, past some shops and a few fields as well as visiting the “Backabanan” race track.
