One of the oldest central streets, one of the three radial highways starting from the Admiralty. The first street layout appeared in the 1720s. The name of the street comes from the name of the German merchant Harrach, who built a house and opened a shop here in 1756.

Later, his last name was changed into a more convenient pronunciation for the Russian language, Gorokh (peas), and soon he himself officially changed it to Gorokhov, and the street began to be named after him. Hay (SENO) is a public space. A large-scale creative project with an area of 20,000 m², consisting of 3 objects:

SENO, Sennaya Boulevard and G47. The space combines many business areas: restaurants, bars, sports, retail, services and coworking. The project dates back to 2011 – from the moment when the restoration of the buildings and courtyards of the future G47 began. This area was completely neglected. Buildings that had long needed restoration, heaps of garbage… in general, complete slums spoiled the appearance of the city. The problem was absolutely typical –

A pre-revolutionary building (before 1917) could not be demolished, and in the form of ruins it did not generate income. Everything changed when the buildings and territory were purchased by investors. SENO is a U-shaped outbuilding at 49 Gorokhovaya with a courtyard.

The courtyard of the building is connected by a passage to Sennaya Boulevard, which, in turn, is connected to space G47, thus forming a single complex. In the courtyard there were bottle glass warehouses built in 1860 and Lehman foundry and warehouse buildings built in 1891.

By the way, according to legend, the same tavern from Dostoevsky’s novel “Crime and Punishment” in which Svidrigailov and Raskolnikov met was located in the SENO building. And of course we can’t help but mention the sculptures. You may like them or not, but they definitely attract the eye.

There are also live music evenings, open air dances and other events, most of which are free. We go out again to Gorokhovaya Street. Already in the 19th century, Gorokhovaya Street became one of the most prestigious in St. Petersburg.

There were large apartment buildings, large shops and houses of rich and eminent Saint Petersburg residents here. In winter, you should definitely go to all the coffee shops!
