FIRST IMPRESSIONS of ARGENTINA šŸ‡¦šŸ‡· Ep3: Buenos Aires is GORGEOUS

Welcome back everybody and welcome toĀ  a brand new adventure in today’s videoĀ Ā  we experience the very best of Buenos AriesĀ  from its delicious Cuisine to its historicalĀ Ā  streets and much much more this is incredibleĀ  so let’s not waste any time let’s pick thingsĀ Ā

Up in the park I’m doing my morning walk and IĀ  have something very quick but very important toĀ Ā  tell you about that you will experience when youĀ  come to this [Music] country so the currency hereĀ Ā  in Argentina is struggling they are sufferingĀ  incredibly High inflation right now so much soĀ Ā

That they actually have to update and changeĀ  the prices of things like milk and bread andĀ Ā  eggs during the day so the price of milk in theĀ  morning might be different to the price of milkĀ Ā  in the evening what that means in real termsĀ  for us as Travelers as foreigners coming hereĀ Ā

Is that there are two rates of of the currencyĀ  there are two conversions the official rateĀ Ā  according to the US dollar is around $300 perĀ  $1 but the unofficial rate which they call theĀ Ā  Blue Note rate is around 800 maybe 900 recentlyĀ  last week people in our traveling WhatsApp groupĀ Ā

Said they were getting over ,000 per $1 at theĀ  rate of $300 per US is an expensive city but atĀ Ā  the 9900 to 1,000 rate per dollar this placeĀ  is cheaper than Thailand so Paddy tell us howĀ Ā

We get the bloody blue note rate then will you IĀ  hear you ask I experienced two different methodsĀ Ā  the first was to pay for everything using Visa asĀ  they allow foreigners to purchase items near orĀ Ā

On the Blue Note rate or and this is the main wayĀ  to do things guys you can exchange 100 us notesĀ Ā  in person with vendors who work on the streetsĀ  of Buenos arees I will show you how to do thatĀ Ā

In a minute in summary if you can get the blueĀ  note rate this place is incredibly affordableĀ Ā  but if you get stung with the official rate wellĀ  you just might shed a few tears so that’s theĀ Ā

Money situation bit of a strange one but I justĀ  thought we’ get that out the way I’m going to goĀ Ā  back to the hotel after I’ve enjoyed my morningĀ  walk go wake up Michael and then we’re going toĀ Ā

Start our exploration of this city Buena areesĀ  it’s cool it’s hip and the weather’s gorgeous so let’s go okay this is our little apartmentĀ  found this on booking $100 a night and theyĀ Ā  gave us complimentary coffee and hot chocolateĀ  and some pastries under here some deliciousĀ Ā

Quasons uh very basic but it’s nice to have aĀ  fridge and we’ve got some local beer in thereĀ Ā  for emergencies and some water and then inĀ  here this is the living room and uh we didn’tĀ Ā  realize but out this door they’ve actually gotĀ  a washing machine so we’re doing a little bitĀ Ā

Of laundry aren’t we all all that darling two orĀ  three days yeah three days basically we’re goingĀ Ā  to be here in total not enough time not enoughĀ  time yeah cuz it’s so cheap yeah I was tellingĀ Ā

Them about the two rates and uh we’re going toĀ  go get some money so that we can get the goodĀ Ā  rate some things might be it might be cheaperĀ  than Thailand yep definitely I mean obviouslyĀ Ā

Not you can get a p kaow and some patai on theĀ  street for a dollar but to get the prices thatĀ Ā  we saw last night for the quality of the foodĀ  and the fancy neighborhoods and these fancyĀ Ā

Restaurants how much was the steaks massive steaksĀ  between $7 and $10 yeah and like you’ll see laterĀ Ā  cuz we’ll going for steak tonight cheap cheapĀ  as chips yeah but it was only going to remainĀ Ā

Cheap if we could get our hands on some pesosĀ  at that blue note rate that we talked about soĀ Ā  we jumped in an Uber and headed over into townĀ  to find one of those Street vendors we had readĀ Ā

About online that exchange Us doll at that higherĀ  rate that we need and after a quick taxi ride andĀ Ā  a little wander on the streets we found one ofĀ  the many vendors and exchanged our dollars in theĀ Ā

Back of a wine store it sounds dodgy I know butĀ  honestly guys it was easy peasy okay we got theĀ Ā  money couldn’t have been it couldn’t have been usĀ  we got a rate of $800 800 pesos per dollar whichĀ Ā

Is a lot better than the official rate of 30050Ā  Okay so we’ve just over doubled our money if weĀ Ā  had been using debit card the best is Visa andĀ  MasterCard is just below that American ExpressĀ Ā

Is best yeah which is tied to my Uber oops thinkĀ  for this part of the adventure we’re just sort ofĀ Ā  walking aimlessly around downtown and uh checkingĀ  out what they’ve got I just wanted to pop in andĀ Ā

Day I got to South America I left my good pair ofĀ  sunglasses on the on the airplane like a completeĀ Ā  idiot and Michael’s let me his but they’re veryĀ  expensive so if I lose these I’ll be much moreĀ Ā  comfortable I go through about three pairs ofĀ  sunglasses on every trip it’s terrible it’sĀ Ā

Like the one thing that I’m just so careless withĀ  we’re just crossing the street here cuz we want toĀ Ā  have a good look at this uh massive Obelisk andĀ  like the zebra Crossings are in the Argentinian

Flags there’s a huge bu sign made out of a bushĀ  there’s a very orderly queue of people awaitingĀ Ā  their turn to take a nice picture and MichaelĀ  being the American that he is has just G straightĀ Ā  to the front [Music] you’ll have a lot of funĀ  exploring the streets of wena series especiallyĀ Ā

On a beautiful day like today this gorgeousĀ  area is actually one of the widest AvenuesĀ Ā  in the world Avenida no de Julio it’s calledĀ  home to this huge iconic Obelisk and a greatĀ Ā  way to know that you’re bang in the middle of theĀ  [Music] city there’s a real called Cafe cultureĀ Ā

CAF is selling delicious coffee almost on everyĀ  corner loads of street art and of course thisĀ Ā  is the Tango Capital being the birthplace of oneĀ  of the most famous and historical dancers in theĀ Ā  world visitors can experience Tango in variousĀ  forms you can go see shows in the theaters atĀ Ā

Night or you can just get a little glimpse ofĀ  it for free on the streets okay we’re enjoyingĀ Ā  ourselves just aimlessly walking around theĀ  different neighborhoods of downtown and youĀ Ā  sort of passed through older areas and it’sĀ  sprinkled in with little sections of ModernĀ Ā

Skyscrapers and it’s just a really nice placeĀ  to walk around enjoy [Music] yourself I do loveĀ Ā  Michael you know he’s a colorful fruit loop but heĀ  brings the best out on people give me a pose come On definitely has a bit of a EuropeanĀ  Vibe here the Spanish Colonial routesĀ Ā  coming through compared to other areas of theĀ  city but yeah really nice oh God I see a cafeĀ Ā  with some outside seating with yeah it’s qu 12Ā  padd’s got a little bit of a peckish [Music]

Belly you might think that the Hard Rock CafeĀ  isn’t exactly an Argentinian staple and ofĀ Ā  course you would be right but they did sell aĀ  chicken burger made by the legendary Messi andĀ Ā

Being a huge Messi fan that I am I insisted thatĀ  I tried it and to be fair it was pretty decentĀ Ā  and just the energy boost we needed to keepĀ  our exploration of buen aeres going and afterĀ Ā

That quick bite we stumbled across a gorgeousĀ  Cemetery it’s called LA receta and it’s one ofĀ Ā  the most famous and historic cemeteries in theĀ  city it holds huge significance to the peopleĀ Ā  here and its architectural heritage even when IĀ  was a kid I used to love hanging out at the localĀ Ā

Cemetery outside the back of the church near myĀ  old house just is just to sit there and look atĀ Ā  the names of the people and just imagine who theyĀ  were and what they did but this is on anotherĀ Ā

Level I’ve never seen anything like this it’sĀ  the Labyrinth of [Music] death and the casketsĀ Ā  are out here in the open it didn’t bury many ofĀ  these people underground because of flooding theyĀ Ā  bury them overground in these tombs oh okayĀ  so there’s a doctor and his wife downstairsĀ Ā

And I can see through the floor just below myĀ  feet and then upstairs there’s a child buriedĀ Ā  here wow this is really interesting if you’veĀ  ever seen the movie aita with Madonna rememberĀ Ā  she had that song Don’t Cry For Me ArgentinaĀ  she’s buried here the woman that uh Madonna was Playing she D on her honeymoon in analanĀ  and then a dog died a dog died plus littleĀ Ā  old cotton socks as you can see apart fromĀ  its primary function this cemetery is a bigĀ Ā  popular destination especially For Tourists andĀ  we were really happy that we stumbled across itĀ Ā

This one’s fancy and modern look steady on guidedĀ  tours are available you don’t need to just walkĀ Ā  around aimlessly like me and Michael but to beĀ  fair getting lost in this Labyrinth and thisĀ Ā  Maze of tombs and graveyards it was just yeahĀ  it was a really beautiful place and definitelyĀ Ā

Put it on your list if you’re coming to brenerĀ  to explore the history and some of the cultureĀ Ā  here oh no no no no no no no no no don’t go inĀ  the ghost no it’s how you get in the subway noĀ Ā

Dude you’re going to get haunted and for the restĀ  of the afternoon me and Michael continued walkingĀ Ā  the colorful historical streets of the city andĀ  after a while it was time to find a place to restĀ Ā

Our feet open a cold beer and just so up some moreĀ  of the incredible atmosphere thank you gracias aĀ Ā  beer and a poring jug yes please we’ve had such aĀ  lovely afternoon and uh we found this little PiazaĀ Ā

And there’s a bloke playing Oasis on his acousticĀ  guitar and we thought this is the perfect placeĀ Ā  to have a little bit of a rest and a a paint orĀ  two H Salo you sexy bastard emphasis on B [Music]

For the past few years I’ve been travelingĀ  quite a lot guys but there was just somethingĀ Ā  about buaer that just clicked with me I loveĀ  it here and I really think that you will asĀ Ā  well and I love the apartments the parks theĀ  atmosphere just really appealed to me and IĀ Ā

Could certainly see myself living here and beingĀ  very happy the other thing that I love is theĀ Ā  food particularly the steaks you just can’t beatĀ  the flavor and you can’t beat the price either IĀ Ā  mean just look at this place okay super fancyĀ  packed out great wines great decor and a placeĀ Ā

That you might think we charge a fortune rightĀ  but nay we had a delicious starter we orderedĀ Ā  a smoked mackerel we had wine and CocktailsĀ  throughout and we had this huge 900 G T-BoneĀ Ā  and the whole bill was under $100 for the both ofĀ  [Music] us this is incredible affordable livableĀ Ā

This city is perfect that was until the nextĀ  morning how however when our luck seemingly ran out morning brenes Dias bit of a stressfulĀ  morning what what’s the technical term we got Swifty so we didn’t know untilĀ  this morning that Taylor SwiftĀ Ā  is in town she’s playing four nights here

And that means we can’t get a room the T theĀ  Taylor Swift effect is a burst to the economyĀ Ā  but we’re aware of uh friends of his were theyĀ  were in Denver just because they were there inĀ Ā

Denver and they had to pay $600 for one nightĀ  at a Super Eight Hotel we may be sleeping in theĀ Ā  subway we woke up this morning we really likeĀ  our little apartment so we text the guy oh canĀ Ā

We stay exra T night and he said no sorry it’sĀ  full we said okay never mind we started lookingĀ Ā  on what website did you look at uh hotel tonightĀ  nothing not not a single room one room $1,800 atĀ Ā

The Grand Mali the same place we stayed at yeahĀ  so nearly $2,000 so I said oh don’t worry don’tĀ Ā  worry um something must be going on one thingĀ  LEDs to another and we find out Taylor Swift isĀ Ā

In town starting tonight for the next four nightsĀ  or whatever so I checked on booking and there wasĀ Ā  a lot of rooms available but you know like notĀ  very cheap rooms to say the least so we’ve hadĀ Ā

A little bit of a Mad Dash Panic this morning umĀ  trying to resolve the issue so travel tip for youĀ Ā  make sure to research is Taylor Swift playingĀ  a concert when I’m going to this town cuz uhĀ Ā

If she is you’re going to have to pre-book yourĀ  accommodation uh and not figure this out on theĀ Ā  day so anyway we’ve booked something we do haveĀ  to move to another town I think it’s cost 379Ā Ā

USD for a twin room in a little hotel somewhereĀ  nearby not too far we’re going to change locationĀ Ā  dump our bags and continue our exploration of theĀ  sea I apologize for for my snoring no yeah didn’tĀ Ā

Snor not yet well actually in the apartment weĀ  have separate rooms but after this trip we headĀ Ā  down south to get on a cruise or a boat and we’reĀ  going on a 10-day trip to Antarctica together inĀ Ā

A in a in a little cabin together so I’ll letĀ  you know if he if he snores [Music] then soĀ Ā  with Taylor Swift putting an expensive spannerĀ  in the works it was up to us to kill a few hoursĀ Ā

Before we could switch hotels and get used toĀ  the new area of the city so we jumped in a taxiĀ Ā  and headed to an interesting shopping mallĀ  nearby that has quite a unique story behind [Music] it so the first night we arrived inĀ  Buena and we went for pizza we had a reallyĀ Ā

Friendly waiter and we asked him for someĀ  recommendations things and places that notĀ Ā  every tourist goes to you know a little bit of aĀ  local spot and he recommended a bastos which isĀ Ā  this it’s basically a mall right but it’s quiteĀ  interesting it’s built underground and inside anĀ Ā

Old train station so this used to be an old trainĀ  station on Once Upon a Time and theyve oh there’sĀ Ā  a they’ve just seen a little swinging ship andĀ  they’ve converted it into this basically topĀ Ā

Floor of a Wonderland for kids you’ve got this bigĀ  ferris wheel ride within the arch and then you’veĀ Ā  got this Neverland arcade which is just packedĀ  and there loads of kids having really good funĀ Ā  and this food court here is huge and you’ve gotĀ  your typical McDonald’s and your Burger Kings butĀ Ā

You’ve also got loads of different little hole inĀ  the wall stands we’ve ordered some steak Michael’sĀ Ā  ordered a big platter and it’s a great use of anĀ  old building that obviously was no need no longerĀ Ā  needed and instead of knocking something down soĀ  historic and beautiful they turned it into a youĀ Ā

Know a good space for the [Music] locals yeah itĀ  was fun to explore this historical and quirky mallĀ Ā  and just like most malls around the world it gaveĀ  us just enough things to see and do to kill theĀ Ā

Few hours we needed before checkin which when itĀ  rolled around meant we could check in to this newĀ Ā  room which by the way was really nice it was justĀ  a shame that we had to pay way over the odds forĀ Ā

It so a big thank you to the swifties for thatĀ  one the best part about the hotel however wasĀ Ā  the numerous parks in the area so in classic PattyĀ  Style I put my walking shoes on and headed out to

Explore okie dokie our time in Buenos areesĀ  is slowly coming to a sad end it really hasĀ Ā  been an incredible few days in this city I don’tĀ  say this very often on this channel but from theĀ Ā

Second I’ve got here and for every minute thatĀ  I’ve been here with Michael and the the littleĀ Ā  opportunities that we’ve had away from eachĀ  other just to enjoy the city on our own I’veĀ Ā  enjoyed every single Street Nook cranny andĀ  moment in this city honestly guys I would ifĀ Ā

Things went tits up in Thailand I think I wouldĀ  move here if it was possible I haven’t checkedĀ Ā  the Visa situation buies is such a livableĀ  City clean modern relatively safe there’sĀ Ā  a few neighborhoods that they tell you not toĀ  you know explore too too late at night there’sĀ Ā

A little bit of a homeless problem you know it’sĀ  not perfect but it is so incredibly beautiful I’mĀ Ā  going to leave you with some scenes of theseĀ  Parks I hope you enjoyed this little chilledĀ Ā  out travel Vlog of weres tomorrow and in the nextĀ  video me and Michael will document our flight toĀ Ā

The very south of the continent and I’ll seeĀ  you from the very south of Argentina in theĀ Ā  next episode thanks for watching againĀ  [Music] CIA [Music] [Applause] [Music] you

  1. "A labyrinth of death" what a great description for a cemetery!!! Can't beat a South American steak, the are the best.

  2. The steaks are ok, everyone raves about them, until you go to South Africa – believe. Great content (as always), thanks for brightening our lives.

  3. Even the Park Hyatt in Argentina is in a very dumpy neighborhood. Always heard it was the Paris of S America. Not quite

  4. HI Paddy! I was wondering if you could tell me where did you get your green backpack. I've been on the hunt for the perfect backpack for my upcoming trip and yours seem great. Love your videos by the way!! Can't wait to see the Patagonia ones!

  5. I know you'll understand Paddy when I say I couldn't get a team of horses to drag my Thai wife into that cemetery. Something like would have never crossed my mind, but I would. definitely love to see that. Beautifully kept up, and oh the stories you could imagine looking at some of those tombs.

  6. Just started watching your videos. Brings me back to 2004 in Argentina, back then they also had crippling inflation. Looking forward to more videos. Safe travels. Diarmuid

  7. This was before the new government was elected, if im not mistaken. I wonder what the situation is like there, now.

  8. You wouldn't live there in a million years Thai Paddy … But yes, we have to be nice when doing a vid about someone else's city (-: Ps. Good to see Michael again

  9. Paddy ,we have been following you since your unique videos in Thailand. I hope you wouldn't mind If I get a bit direct. Your last 2 videos with Michael did not reach the mark. He is a distraction that prevented you from covering the land the same way as you used to on your motorbike. The issue isn't the motorcycle. But your last two videos certainly lack the quality of Paddy in Thailand who with so much effort put out a very original kind ofvisual travel logs which we enjoyed watching. We have a good taste. Please stay away from Michael.(-:::: (-: (-:

  10. Top tip was the exchange rate, blue note 800 to 1000 pesos to $1 USD, money laundering ?. Thanks bloody lots PaddyšŸ‘. Bringing $100 US bills

  11. I play a drinking game with my husband. Every time Paddy says ā€œgorgeous ā€œ we drink tequila…
Bottle is half gone in one episode.

  12. ā¤ā¤šŸ‘šŸ¼to you both that was a really great vlog. šŸ’žšŸ’ž-23 herešŸ„¶šŸŒØļøā˜ƒļøšŸ‡¬šŸ‡§šŸ‡øšŸ‡Ŗ

  13. Wonderful location and definitely worth a visit based on what you’ve shown here. I hope you take this as feedback from a longtime subscriber and fan but you really need to reconsider having Michael ever appear on your channel again, it’s almost made this series unbearable, unless he is funding your trip I can’t imagine why you agreed to this.

  14. Absolutely loved this video…. you really do seem very relaxed here. I lived in the patagonia for two years and long to return. BTW, followed you over from your Sri Lanka videos,… we are headed there in two weeks! Que disfrute Argentina!

  15. While in Argentina last year, I used western union to complete the currency exchange, it’s very safe/secure and they use the blue rate. It’s just another option if you feel intimidated by using a stranger in the street as your exchange.

  16. Note that in Argentina that atm fee is expensive, like ten percent or so of the amount withdrawn. Another option for the blue rate for currency exchange is Western Union. Note that there is a daily withdrawal limit with Western Union which varies from city to city. In the big cities around 500 euros or so a day.

  17. Hey Paddy thanks for the currency tip in Argentina! Todd and I also love it there and the food. Did you get to San Telmo area? So glad you enjoyed Argentinaā¤šŸ‘
