Merano 🇮🇹: Beautiful Hidden Gem in Northan Italy. 4K Walking Tour

Today, we will go visit a lovely small town of MERANO. Very quiet. The air is crisp. The mountains are much closer. Merano is a town in South Tyrol, Northern Italy, known for its spa resorts and surrounded by alps as Ötztal Alps. Ötztal Alps is the borderline of Austria and Italy.

About 15 min walk to the center. It’s very peaceful and relaxing. This is the historic center of Merano. Passer River runs through the town. Merano is known for their thermal baths. The Passer River originates in the Italian Alps. Specifically from the Passo del Rombo (Timmelsjoch) in the Ötztal Alps.

The river runs through many charming little villages in the Tyrolean region of Italy. Passing Merano. Runs south to big cities like Verona, and continues to the Adriatic Sea. Gorgeous mountains in this area have dramatic Alpine peaks. Not only the mountains, but also the buildings have pointy peaks. Many beautiful cobblestone streets in Merano.

Via Roma and the river boardwalk serve as the starting point for the Christmas Market, which we will explore later. During the Winter Solstice, the days are short in Merano, lasting around 8 hours. These must be an emblems representing coat of arms. I don’t know why but I got excited.

Probably from around the 12th to the 17th century, Always great to see snow-capped mountains so close. Let’s go inside the OLD TOWN. This tower is called Bolzano Gate, dating from the 14th century.

Imagine back in time, women dressed in long, flowing gowns with veil on their head, men with tunics with leggings passing by here…. Let’s go to the cathedral first. humm….Interesting…..Green with creamy yellow. Beautiful decoration. Do you feel as if you were here walking? Let me know in teh comment.

These arcades are perfect for rainy and snowy days! That was a quick walk. We are already at the Duomo (Cathedral). Duomo di Merano, also known as the St. Nikolaus Church. This is one of the oldest Gothic buildings in South Tyrol. Very cute design, as if it’s from a children’s storybook.

The tower is unique, featuring a total of seven clockworks and seven bells. Loving this trip? Share it with a friend who’d enjoy it too! The decorations remind me of castles. Time passes slower here. Do you enjoy this kind of hidden gem spots instead of very crowded touristic places? Let me know!

Beutiful coloring and an emblem! Hello! Very lovely and warm feeling. 10 big pillars supporting the vaulted rib ceiling. Beautiful! Very nice floor too. There are 7 coloful stained glass windows. Vivid mural of St. Christopher. The entire town features a soft color palette. Lets walk through under the bell tower.

Chapel of St. Barbara. It has octagon-shape. We decided to go have lunch at a restaurant by the church. Can’t wait to try some South Tyrolean cuisine. Voila! It is Canederli. Hearty and comforting dumplings in broth. This is not a local dish but, it’s a cutlet milanese tyrolian style with potatos.

Typical Tyrolean gnocchi. After lunch walk on Corso della Libertà. The old town is quite small and easy to walk around. During the holiday season, even after Christmas, the Christmas market remains open right along the river. Wow. Very nice Alpine hats on them. Austrian Tyrolean food. Pretzels “Brezel” are from Austro-Hungarian Empire time.

There are many shops with finely carved woodworks. There is something else I have to try before leaving this town… …which is to find a bakery and try the Italian Tyrolean-style apple strudel. Everything looks good. The region of South Tyrol is renowned for its very juicy apple production.

This one! Apple strudel with cookie outside instead of pie shell. sweet pretzel . Such a quiet oasis here! Very tranquil. The next time I visit here, I would love to try the thermal spa. I usually upload my video every Friday or Saturday.
