Wow. Isn’t it awesome how they toss octopus onto every ball? Okay. Thank you. Takoyaki. Osaka. Osaka, Japan We’ve been to Kyoto, Nara and now we’re in Osaka. We want them to try several dishes, so we’ve come to Namba. We’re very close to Dotonbori. Let’s take this two on a food tour of Osaka!

Osaka. Downtown Osaka. Big city. Please do not jump!? They are asking not to jump? What is it? When the Osaka baseball team wins, fans used to jump off this bridge into the river to celebrate. For real? That was long ago and it’s now prohibited. That’s why it says ‘no diving, no jumping’.

So that’s why. However, not long ago, the Osaka team won. They hadn’t won in ages, and a guy just jumped off the bridge. He just jumped. It made it to the news and I wonder if he got fined or something. Unbelievable. The tradition got brought back. Cool, huh? Yeah, crazy. Of course.

The plan for today is for you guys to try two typical things from around here. The first one being Takoyaki, which is basically grilled balls with octopus inside. And the other one is Okonomiyaki, which I’d describe as a sort of pizza. You’re essentially grilling veggies and octopus in a pan… It sounds special.

You guys will try that. Those two things are very popular here. How exciting. Takoyaki. Okonomiyaki. I learn fast. How do you feel about this crowd? Way too many people. Incredible. I think this is the largest crowd we’ve seen in one place so far. Yes.

The number of people in this place is crazy, it’s beyond belief! Mind-blowing! We were hoping to start with Takoyaki, but every single shop is super crowded. This is the line for that Takoyaki shop. This line over here. All the way… I can’t believe this. It’s about an hour’s wait there in this line.

I think we got to aim for another type of food and maybe consider eating Takoyaki later tonight. There’s way too many people in Osaka. I can’t believe it. We found this Takoyaki shop. There’s not a lot of people waiting. It’s 12:50 pm. Let’s see how long it takes to get in the restaurant.

Okay, guys, this is getting weird now. I’m getting dizzy. I’m really, really hungry right now. And we’re making this line here for to reach the Takoyaki and the Okonomiyaki, which is the basic street food here in Osaka. We got here 10 to 1 PM. I hope we get soon because I’m getting dizzy.

Let’s hope I don’t faint here because I’m very, very hungry, man. So it’ll be worth trying this Takoyaki thing. I’m going to go live. Okay. It’s time for a live transmission. Sorry guys. Look at the octopus. They’re adding the octopus now, Gross. Isn’t it awesome how they toss octopus onto every ball?

They’re now adding the milk. Some sort of milk. Look how they add the milk. It’s just amazing. I wonder what that is. What’s your thoughts on the way they prepare these ‘balls’? It’s just incredible. It might take around 25 minutes to get them ready. Pretty cool. We’ve been here for… 20 minutes already.

It’s taking about 20 minutes to get them ready. They’ll start serving them now. It’s pretty cool and everything is done in a sequence. They first add the mix, then the octopus and the scallions. Then they toss in some kind of fried stuff. They then add some sort of milk to cover everything.

And then, they finally start flipping the balls around with chopsticks to get them golden on all sides. Amazing. This is how they pack the Takoyaki to serve it. They toss them into a box and throw on some sauces and stuff on top. Okay. Thank you. Takoyaki. Osaka. Unbelievable. How cool.

You’re already trying the sauce. Okay. Let’s go. This way. Let’s go. Are you guys noticing that’s moving? Wow. There’s movement. What is that, man? That’s a live Takoyaki? No, it’s not alive. It’s not alive, but it somehow moves. Pao. What is it? Those things on the top are moving.

But it’s not because it’s alive. There are tiny bits of octopus inside the balls. How do we grab this? Like this? Ah, with this. With this one. You just take one. Take one like that? Yeah. Be careful because it might be really hot inside. It’s very hot, man. Great taste. It tastes great. Really good. It’s good. Mild flavor. I got the octopus there. Okay. It’s really hot. We’ve got 15 and 8 Takoyaki. 23 Takoyaki. Never tried anything like this. Takoyaki. Takoyaki. Different, man. Nothing like this. I haven’t had this in a while.

Is it different the Takoyaki in Yamaguchi from this one? The real Osaka Takoyaki. It’s good. The frozen takoyaki definitely doesn’t have the same taste. It has a somewhat slimy texture, a bit liquid, and I didn’t like that. I felt like it was undercooked.

Yeah, the octopus is well-cooked, but the batter part isn’t completely cooked. No, it’s not fully cooked. I enjoyed the outer part, but not so much the slimy inside. You’re going to like Okonomiyaki. Yeah? Yeah, that one isn’t slimy. That one’s dryer. We can go later and try it. I’ll have some water now.

It was really something to watch how they sling in the batter and then spin those balls around like crazy. It starts as a liquid, then they use chopsticks to shape it into balls, and finally, they add toppings at the end. And then, they repeat the process again. They super fast. They are.

Oh, Grossi. Takoyaki. So Kaito, Takoyaki started here in Osaka? It’s from here. It’s traditionally from Osaka. That’s why it’s really famous here. One more. It’s really good. You eat Takoyaki in other places of Japan and abroad as well? In France? You tried Takoyaki. It’s too hot. He cannot…

This is what this is for, man. Is it still hot? Open your mouth, please. Is it still hot? Tell me, man. They have this at the restaurant here. It’s okay? – It’s okay. – You tell me. Thank you. We have the fire extinguisher here. They have good service here.

For the hot stuff here. Takoyaki is very hot. So yeah. In France you can find it. Yeah, we tried Takoyaki in France as well. But they modified it because the French and usually foreigners don’t like raw things. So, it gets more cooked. Modifications. Yeah. Takoyaki. But it’s still really good.

Oh, I like to try things as they are here, man. Original. Osaka. Cheers. Well, I guess it was a success. None left. Delicious. Delicious. Do you have room for some Okonomiyaki? Of course! Lots of space for Okonomiyaki. How’s everyone doing?

We’re still strolling around in Osaka. Just grabbed a coffee, and we’ve got loads of energy. There’s a big difference in how things go here compared to the West. Particularly in Cali, Colombia. The difference is, back home, there’s a gap in between dinners.

Breakfast has a set time, lunch falls within a defined period, and dinner follows suit. What a surprise here in Osaka! Here, everyone eats at all times. All the street food shops are packed with people. Everyone eats at all times here! It’s unbelievable!

This is a city where you see people walking around all the time. Anyways, it’s time to try Okonomiyaki. You can order, Boo. Okonomiyaki. They are different flavors. There’s pork, squid, shrimp and mixed. Mixed? I’ll try the mixed one? One mixed, and one with squid, please. Okay. This is where they prepare it, Gross.

Oh, we can see them while they’re being prepared. Hold this bottle, please. Look Grossito. How nice. It looks good. I was looking at how they’re making the Okonomiyaki. It looks like a big hamburger. They’re frying on this huge frying pan here.

So they put up the mix there and they let it there for a couple of minutes, and then they turn it around and they fry it on the other side. It’s faster to cook the Okonomiyaki than the Takoyaki. Yeah. Much faster. Thank you. Oh, it’s moving. Are those animals? No. Chopsticks? Thank you.

It looks nice. Bonito flakes. Pao. You can try it. It looks delicious. Is it because of the heat that they’re moving? It’s really good. It’s really good. It’s really good. Let’s try it. Delicious. It’s good. It has vegetables… Check out how those ‘bugs’ are moving. No, they’re not bugs.

They’re things moving, but it’s just because of the heat. Don’t think it’s fish or anything weird in there. Is it good? This sauce is so good. It’s really good. Hadn’t had Okonomiyaki at a restaurant in a while. It’s really good. You tried Takoyaki and Okonomiyaki. Do you have a favorite one?

No, I think they’re different because they’re made different. I mean, the shape is different. I mean, yeah. No, I… Both. Yeah, I liked both. I liked both, yeah. Yeah, I liked both. I like better Takoyaki.

    では、失礼しますm(_ _)b
