【Sacred places】The entrance to a different world that we don’t really want to tell you about.

Hello. Today, I came to the Kitaguchi Hongu Fuji Sengen Shrine for the New Year’s first visit. I have been here many times and I love this shrine. But today, the place we are aiming for is not this shrine, but beyond it. I like shrines and temples.

When I go to an old building or by an old, big tree, I feel something. It’s not that I’m religious or that I’m particularly fond of spiritual things. If there is a different world, I feel that shrines and temples are the entrance to it. I feel something because I feel a different world.

Apart from talking about such a different world, this approach feels majestic. In the old days, when the faith of Mt. Fuji was very popular, people used to walk here to climb Mt. In the old days, after purifying themselves at Oshi houses, everyone would walk to this approach.

Now, most people take a bus to the fifth station and from there to the summit. Most people climb Mt. Fuji separately from their faith. But it would be nice to have a tour that simulates the old faith of Mt. The few remaining Oshi houses seem to be popular with foreign tourists.

We have reached the Otorii, the largest wooden gate in Japan. The painting is already damaged, even though it was rebuilt only a few years ago. The Otorii gate, made by cutting down a large tree, is very powerful. But it is the living giant trees that give me a sense of something.

This year is the year of the dragon. The destination is just down the road. 5 min. walk. This is the entrance to the trail. From here, people in the past climbed Mt. Otsuka Hill, the birthplace of this shrine, is today’s destination. It’s a short walk, but most people don’t go there.

Most people go and just think there is nothing there. This is the place where about 1900 years ago, Yamatotakeru no Mikoto stopped by and looked up at Mt. I can’t help but feel something. Now let’s go to the entrance to another world.

Now that we cannot see Mt. Fuji from Otsuka Hill, we come to a popular spot for foreign tourists to see Mt. Then, we went to Kana-torii. In the past, Oshi houses were built all the way from this area. According to the belief of Mt. Fuji, this is the entrance to a different world.

Today, I went to the Kitaguchi Hongu Fuji Sengen Shrine for Hatsumode.
But what I really aim for is beyond that.

I like shrines and temples.
That is because I feel something from old buildings and trees over 1,000 years old.

I am not a religious person, nor do I particularly like spiritual things.
It is just that I feel something from the old things in shrines and temples, and I feel that they are like a entrance to another world.

I will introduce you to the entrance to such a different world, a place that most people do not go to, even though they go as far as Sengen Shrine.
