We Were AMAZED, Traveling to Japan’s Countryside 🇯🇵 Yanagawa (Kyushu Island)

[Music] it’s so tiny it’s so cute I thought  it would be a bit bigger but I think this is   perfect perfect for the two of us so we are  doing something a little different today we

Are in Fukuoka and we have just rented a car in  Japan we have done the metro the uh Shinkansen and   uh even the buses so we thought this would be  something different and it would be fun for us

To use the car to explore Kyushu which is the more  southern island here in Japan on our itinerary   today is we are driving to Yanagawa which is a  city that is famous for one of our favorite foods

Unagi which is eel grilled eel but they do it a  little bit different here and they’re one of the   most um famous places for this dish and Yanagawa is  also known as the Venice of Kyushu because there’s

Over 400 km of canals there I think it’s going to  be a very beautiful city to explore so how is it   driving in Japan it’s quite easy actually it’s  pretty much like driving in Canada but on the

Other side on the left side instead of the right  side like driving in Thailand no because there are   no scooters on motorbikes okay you don’t have to  watch out for for them it’s pretty easy you just   follow what everyone else is doing and  Joy has been great she seems small outside but

Inside she’s quite spacious and comfortable and we  got a good deal on this we rented it from Toyota   Rent-A-Car which is like a Toyota dealership yeah  they have it all around the city like a rental

Shop next to the dealership and the cars are so  well-maintained and they look all very new so it’s   awesome and it’s only $50 a day I think I think that’s  a very good deal

Your destination will be on the right we are here  this is Yanagawa yeah it seems so empty and quiet here listen to that there’s nothing except  for the car yeah it’s so quiet oh oh you   smell that that’s here right yeah oh I can  smell the grilled unagi where do you where

Do you park that’s the tricky part I feel  like you can’t oh there’s this is a parking   lot oh okay 4 hours for 600 JPY that’s pretty  good right good job you figured it [Music] this is so cute we even get the view  of the canal this is perfect I know why

The street is so empty why cuz everyone is  eating unagi don right now everyone is in the restaurant is it nice and warm it is it’s like   it’s like Christmas what is  in the Box I don’t know let’s

See a oh that’s so pretty you see how there’s  like a little box inside so they steam that   and then put it back into here so we have the  two pieces of unagi chopped up omelette and the

Rice but the rice is not white rice it’s mixed  with the sauce oh that’s going to be so tasty and we also have pickles on the side and eel  liver soup broth interesting and there’s even

A little piece of uh lemon in there maybe to  like balance the flavor you can tell the eel   has been grilled to perfection before it was steamed  I want everything on this bite look at that [Music] it’s not as sweet as the other  ones we’ve had before which I really

Like and it has a charcoal taste  to the eel it’s very delicious   now I kind of wish we had a little bit  more eel in the box cuz it’s so good [Music] two two two 2,000 2,000 yeah  money money oh money oh money uh

This one okay oh I have smaller you have  small bills yeah I have smaller bills oh okay we have to wear the hat take this one so the transaction was so quick we gave  him the cash which is 1,000 yen per person

And he gave us our hats and now we’re walking  to the place that we’re going to board the boat   so this town seems super chill we do  see tourists but not a lot like so far I’ve   seen like Korean Taiwan Hong Kong maybe some  Chinese but not westerners not many Western

Tourists come here wow the canal kind of  this is opens up here beautiful this one this one I think they’re also coming with us it  it just seems so casual it’s really hard to   tell he didn’t charge us like a premium so  we never booked a chartered boat or anything

He just charged us 1000 yen each person but  as we’re walking here people are basically   asking him like oh can we come can we go so  I think he’s just taking money now yeah so

All this people will join us yeah I think  2 4 6 8 10 12 I think this boat can fit   up to 12 people let’s hope it doesn’t rain  because this is such a beautiful setting I’m excited this is so cool he’s  controlling the boat with just one bamboo

Stick I wish I understand what he’s  saying I think he’s telling us about   the surroundings about where we’re  going are you sure he sounds like   he’s complaining about his job no  no because this guy was nodding but it does sound like he’s complaining

We’re coming to the bridge  how are we going to get we can go like this   I think he going to climb out  because there’s a ladder there byebye good there is Google because even though I don’t  understand what he’s saying I did look up this

Canal here in Yanagawa and what I read was before  the canal was built to protect the um the castle   here it was more for like protection when it was  built this way but then afterwards it was used for

Irrigation for all the farmland that was around  this area and then nowadays they don’t even need   it for irrigation um in most places so it’s kind  of a nice tourist attraction for Yanagawa city [Music] that was beautiful I’m in love now

You fell in love in Yanagawa yeah have a have a rest have a rest you’re going the other way this is very hard [Music]  oh okay okay okay okay okay I don’t think it’s okay I can be your hero baby I can kiss the pain away oh

Yeah I can stand by you forever  [Laughter] you can’t take my breath away he’s so confused okay hey not bad not bad that was very hard can you see  me shaking it was yeah I feel like   you kept switching sides it’s pretty funny it was very heavy

I think everyone enjoyed it it  was really lovely he’s a good singer he’s   so good at rowing the boat we’re so calm a great  entertainer overall it’s quite a different feeling   when you’re listening to someone sing old  Japanese songs and going down this river hearing

The breeze so are you happy we came here yeah this  was really nice it’s very relaxed and peaceful a   little throwback to what a Japanese town like this  would have been like back in the day as always

Thank you so much for watching have a wonderflo day and we’ll see you in the next one bye bye-bye

We were amazed traveling to Japan’s countryside! We decided to do something a little different and rented a car from Fukuoka to drive to the small town of Yanagawa, also known as the Venice of Kyushu. We were surprised that not many tourists visit this romantic little town as there’s a lot to offer! Join us as we explore the canal city of Yanagawa by boat and try a 150 year-old recipe for grilled eel.

  1. If I had to guess, I would say that that is probably not lemon in the soup, but more likely to be yuzu.

  2. I like how the boatman was basically just mumbling to himself while getting the boat ready before setting off. Ha! 🤣

  3. Note had me crying laughing with his version of "Hero". Love you Flora and Note.

  5. What an amazing boat ride in Yanagawa. Truly love the part where Note took over the rowing and his singing had me in stitches 😂😅
As always, interesting video with great content. Thank you very much for sharing, Flora & Note 🫰✌️

  6. What a place!
Never been to this part of Japan,I made a promise to visit on my trip.
The highlight of this video was Note rendering his hit song!
    Really love this video.Thanks.

  7. 日本人の私がきいても何はなしてるかわからなかったけど歌だけはなんていってるかはっきりわかってめっちゃおもしろかったし、かわいかったぁ😂❤

  8. I can't wait for my own adventures in Japan in March. The eel looked wonderful! Fun video. ❤

  9. Oh my gosh! You guys! 👏👏👏 So cute! Now I need to find some bbq eel for lunch❤

  12. you needed a Fluentalk device for translation… lol. another great video.. 🥰

  13. The unagi bento look very delicious. The canal ride was very calming. Very enjoyable day in Yanagawa. Thank you both for the video.

  14. It is so cool to see Note driving in Japan. The food looks so good and well made. $27 USD for the food was a good price. Those hats are beautiful as well. Flora and Note I love this Japan series, and thank you both for bringing it to us.

  15. Was laying down to watch your vid when news of 7.5 hit Mindinao, Philipines. Tsunami warnings are up for them expected to hit around mid nite. They stated that the wave is expected to hit Japan too. I was concerned so said prayers as I found you were there. Hope you’re safe and have shelter no matter what takes place. Love you guys want you’re safety health and joy!!! Ok goin to watch your vid.🙏🏻❤️Note-you sing so well! 😁your navigation skills most excellent driving flying etc, on the water with bamboo stick; not so much😂. I have tried eel every way possible and say-NOT my cup of tea-more for you! Please, eat it all lol. Beautiful town. I would take the boat ride too as it’s a very peaceful way to explore other areas, even if on the edge. Safest travels🙏🏻❤️

  16. The “oh yeah” got me while Note was singing Hero. lol 😂😂😂

Definitely a must see area in Japan for the next trip. So peaceful and relaxing. ☺️

Stay safe and enjoy your adventures. 😊

  17. Is Note going to stay there and be a the rowing man / singer going forward? haha! So funny! love watching you guys. I can't wait to go to Japan next year!

  18. I laugh from left to right. Not sure u r still in Fukuoka, hopefully you can show us more. Felt this place is under rated. Something we have not seen before. Thanks

  19. Even for me who actually was born and raised near this neighborhood, his Kyushu Japanese dialect is hard to catch because of his mumbling way of speaking. lol

  20. We didn't get to see much of the countryside when we were in Japan. Otaru was the closest we got to "small town vibes" in Japan. Yanagawa looks super nice. 😍
Also, we want that eel! Yummm.

  21. I feel that old Japanese people have their own unique dialect…so even if you can speak Japanese, I think most won't understand half of what they are saying and are just filling in the blanks.

  22. Thanks for making this video. I am planning a driving trip for my next visit to Japan. This video helped a lot! Parking is one of my concern. 😂

  23. I’m Japanese and still didn’t understand what he was saying! 😂 He’s such a character!! Love it!

  24. And if you enjoyed this video, please check out more adventures from this Japan series!
