Okunoshima, a small island with a circumference of 4.3 km, is located 3 km offshore from Tadanoumi Town in Takehara City, Hiroshima Prefecture.

The island is famous as “Rabbit Island” inhabited by approximately 1,000 rabbits.

The island has attracted attention from around the world and is a popular spot visited by many tourists, both domestic and international.

Today, the island is designated as a national park and is a paradise for rabbits, but it also has a dark history as it was once called “Poison Gas Island.

During the war, the island was apparently a base for the production of poison gas under army control, and was erased from maps for confidentiality reasons.

Even today, there are still relics related to poison gas in various places on the island, and a museum has been established to exhibit materials from that time.

However, when you actually visit the island, you will find that a tremendous number of rabbits come close to people in search of food, making the island a paradise for animal lovers.

There are many “cat islands” throughout Japan, but I have the impression that rabbit islands are very rare.

It is a favorite place that I want to visit regularly because it is too cute and fun.

Although it is difficult to see on the video, we do not leave uneaten food left over from the feeding on the spot, but collect all of it and bring it back home.
