Japan’s Luxurious Bullet Train l KAGAYAKI First Class 🚄

Hello. I’m at Tokyo Station today. Today, I’ll be taking the Shinkansen called “Kagayaki” from Tokyo Station to Kanazawa. And, I’ll be traveling in the “Gran Class”, which is the first class of the Shinkansen. Here’s today’s route. Travel from Tokyo to Kyoto via Kanazawa Tokyo Station has security cameras everywhere.

First, I’ve arrived at the lounge that’s available for passengers traveling in Gran Class. Since there are hardly any people here, I can relax and take a break. I’m having a drink and some cookies as I rest. Alright, I’ve arrived at the Shinkansen platform gate. Today, I’ll be riding the Hokuriku Shinkansen.

I’ll be boarding the Kagayaki bound for Kanazawa, departing at 9:20. The Kagayaki operates from Tokyo, passes through Nagano, and heads to Kanazawa. This is my first time riding the Kagayaki, so I’m really looking forward to it. It’s a very cool and stylish. The design looks like it’s built for high speed.

I will be boarding the 12th car, which is the Gran Class. All the seats on this Shinkansen are reserved. Now that boarding is allowed, I’m getting on. Wow, it’s a luxurious train car. I’ll be sitting in one of the single seats. Next to it are seats arranged in pairs.

There’s a luggage compartment above the seats. There’s also a blanket available. The seat can recline up to 45 degrees. It also comes with a footrest. We’re departing Tokyo Station at 9:20. There’s a lot of legroom. Oh, I’ve found some slippers. I’ll change into them right away. The floor of this car is carpeted.

It feels very luxurious. They’ve started distributing bags. I’ve got one too. Before I introduce what’s inside, let’s pull out the table. Wait, how do I pull out the table? This is for placing drinks. Ah, the table is here. Inside the bag, there is Water A menu Snacks A wet towel

It’s still an urban landscape. Oh, there’s the Tohoku Shinkansen “Yamabiko”! It’s actually coupled with the Yamagata Shinkansen “Tsubasa”! Please check out the coupling section in slow motion. So, apart from the “Hayabusa”, there are other Shinkansen trains that are coupled together. Let’s take a look at the menu from earlier. Drinks are all-you-can-drink.

A light meal is also provided. You can choose between Western or Japanese cuisine. It seems you can also get pound cake, in addition to the snacks we received earlier. I wonder whether I should choose Western or Japanese cuisine. The staff came to take my order, so I ordered Japanese cuisine and a beer.

It’s still a long way to Kanazawa. It’s about a two and a half hour journey from Tokyo. Let’s measure the speed of the train. Our current speed is… 68km/h There are many empty seats. Perhaps there aren’t many people traveling to Kanazawa on a weekday. There was a description of the seats.

There are power outlets and compartments for small items as well. It’s a high-tech chair. Book light. There’s a light here, it looks like a firefly. The Gran Class logo is on the light. You can also use just the footrest. I didn’t realize there was an outlet here!

The position of the headrest can be adjusted freely. The seat is made of genuine leather and wool, giving it a luxurious feel. There’s a button in the back that I definitely don’t want to press. And we are being watched by someone. I wonder when the light meal will come. It’s here! Tada!

A luxurious-looking box. It’s Japanese cuisine, but there’s a tart inside. The menu changes depending on the season. My beer is all frothy. Itadakimasu. Octopus. It’s soft, and it’s perfect as a side dish for alcohol. I had this meal when I rode the Hayabusa before, and it’s really tasty. It pairs really well with alcohol.

A moment of bliss. I’d like to try a different menu next time. This avocado tart topped with shrimp is quite delicious. Thank you for the meal. The Shinkansen is moving quite fast. Let’s measure its speed. It’s exceeding 200km/h! It’s gotten even faster, surpassing 260km/h!

The speed at which the scenery changes is also fast. I’ve come to the connection part of the train cars. It’s adorned with a Japanese design. This is the entrance to the Gran Class. The Gran Class is just one car. Next to it is the Green Car. Hi! A clean washbasin.

Where can I purchase this washbasin? This is the toilet. It closes automatically, but the lock is manual. There are too many buttons, it’s confusing. It’s a multifunctional toilet. You can also change diapers. You can sit down too. Huh, it’s not responding. There’s also a men’s-only toilet.

I wonder if they made this toilet because there was a gap. I’ll return to my seat. I tried ordering some sake. It’s a sake called “Katsuyama Ken.” A glass with the Gran Class logo on it. It’s a brand that has been selected as the No.1 sake in Japan before.

It has a really nice aroma. This drink has a sweetness to it, is refreshing, and is easy to drink. First, the appetizer that was served. It’s a salami that contains Yonezawa beef, a premium meat. Yeah, it’s delicious. Sake and salami make a good pairing. The mountains are coming into view.

It looks like the weather is bad around the mountain. I’m glad we were able to enjoy the scenery thanks to the clear weather. While I was enjoying the scenery, I ended up drinking all the sake. I feel like I might get drunk, so I ordered oolong tea. It’s cold and refreshing.

If it’s too bright, you can close the blinds. The view is beautiful, so let’s keep the blinds open. There are so many mountains. While I was enjoying the scenery, we’ve arrived at Nagano Station. Nagano Prefecture is located in the center of Japan and is a region rich in nature with expansive mountainous areas.

Nagano Prefecture is rich in nature with popular tourist spots like Karuizawa and Kamikochi. Nagano is also famous for Matsumoto Castle. In the winter, it snows, so many people come to ski or snowboard. You can also see monkeys bathing in hot springs in Nagano Prefecture.

Oh, after passing through Nagano Prefecture, there are hardly any people left. It’s quite empty. I’m pleasantly tipsy, so it’s a good time to relax a bit. This is my first time riding the Shinkansen on this route, so I enjoy looking at the scenery.

The Shinkansen is running on the Sea of Japan side today. I can see the ocean. I can see a cluster of buildings now. Arrived at Toyama Station. I’m now the only person left in this car. I have this whole car to myself.

In just about 20 minutes, we’ll arrive at the final stop, Kanazawa. Lastly, I’ll have the Shinshu pure apple juice. It’s apple juice made from 100% Nagano Prefecture apples. It has a pleasant apple aroma and looks delicious. It tastes like premium apple juice. We’ll be arriving at Kanazawa Station soon. Thank you, Gran Class.

The seating was extremely comfortable. Thank you, Kagayaki. I’m going to do a bit of sightseeing in Kanazawa now. There are many tourists from Western countries here. What an impressive building. The entrance to the station is luxurious. I’ll take a taxi to a popular tourist spot. The windows of Japanese taxis are so clean.

I wish they would introduce Uber in Japan as well. Kanazawa has many enjoyable spots, including gardens, art museums, and markets where you can eat fresh fish. First, I’ve come to the famous garden, Kenrokuen. Over there is Kanazawa Castle. Oh, the castle looks small.

Kenrokuen is one of the Three Great Gardens of Japan, created during the Edo period. You can enjoy its beauty throughout the seasons, from cherry blossoms in the spring, autumn leaves, to yuki-tsuri (snow support structures) in winter. However, it’s quite expansive. If you tour it thoroughly, it can take about 2 hours.

It’s a garden where you can really feel the Japanese essence. There’s a very large pond. There are koi fish in it. It’s impressive that they created such a large garden. Is that a large bronze statue? A giant Buddha? Who are you? There’s a unique fountain here.

Even the crows are relaxing in this garden. Despite being in the city center, it’s a place where you can truly feel nature. It’s a recommended spot for those who love nature. Walking around made me hungry, so I’m going to have lunch. I came to eat udon.

It’s hot outside, so I’ll have cold udon. The shaved ice looks delicious too. The tatami mat seating area feels nice. I wonder if this building has been here for a long time. The zaru udon has arrived! I’ll add grated radish and green onions to the dipping sauce. It’s delicious.

I came to buy a dessert after the meal. Soft serve ice cream. I need to eat it quickly or it’ll melt. It’s delicious. I’ve returned to Kanazawa Station. From here, I’ll take another train heading to Kyoto. I’ll be boarding the 4:00 pm Limited Express Thunderbird.

The train hasn’t arrived yet, so I’ll wait on the platform for a while. While I was in the restroom, the Thunderbird had arrived. This train is bound for Osaka. This time, I’m riding in the Green Car. Compared to the Gran Class, the seats seem a bit inferior.

But there are footrests and drink holders. I’ll place my tea there. There’s a table on the right side. It doesn’t seem usable with the drink holder extended. This should be okay. There’s a large pocket in front. The seat can recline. The pillow is a simple one.

There are single seats and ones that come in pairs. The journey from Kanazawa to Kyoto takes about 2 hours and 10 minutes. The departure is right at 4:00 pm. There’s no Shinkansen running between Kyoto and Kanazawa. Therefore, taking this Thunderbird is the fastest option.

This train also has outlets at the seats, so I’ll charge my device. The clouds are really beautiful. The speed of the Thunderbird is 129km/h. Pretty fast. Arrived at Tsuruga Station. About half the distance left to Kyoto. We are currently passing through Shiga Prefecture. This isn’t the sea; it’s a lake.

Shiga Prefecture is home to Lake Biwa, the largest lake in Japan. It’s a big lake, even when you look at it on a map. It was formed 4 million years ago and is said to be the third oldest in the world. There are many houses lined up.

The houses are very close to the tracks. The long journey is almost over. It’s also fun to travel on various trains. Thank you, Thunderbird. Thanks for Watching. Please subscribe to my channel for more movies.

  1. It really looks amazing. Even coach class going from Osaka to Tokyo was very roomy and smooth so I easily napped through half of it. I'd be too relaxed and sleepy to do a video for this trip.
