Hello, I’m Kaol. Continuing from last time, here is the Kagoshima part of my Japan trip. The theme this time is let’s explore the downtown area of Kagoshima city. So we start from the famous Temmonkan Street. Let’s look for an Izakaya first.
Kagoshima is famous for kurobuta (black pig) and kibinago (fish) sashimi. I would like to try Satsuma-age and Ishiyaki sweet potato. I thought about it and then I came to Ginza Street. Tasty looking noodle shop, yakiniku restaurant It’s hard to decide which restaurant to go to!
This is Kagoshima’s largest downtown area, and there are many restaurants and pubs. Exploring without even looking at Google Map. It’s the best part of the trip. One time back on Tenmonkan Street. Found a nice looking pub. I feel an aura in the restaurant. I decide to go inside.
I order kibinago (fish) sashimi and sake-zushi. Looks delicious! Sake-zushi” is a local sushi from Kagoshima since the 1600s. Hmmm. Maybe people who like sake can’t resist it. Next is sashimi of kibinago. It is served with vinegared miso. Yes, it is delicious. The freshness is excellent, as expected in Kagoshima.
The beer goes very well. Eating local specialties on the road makes me feel like I’m traveling, right? We’re getting good and drunk, let’s go for a walk. Yes! I’m getting excited! Seeing the city for the first time in a new destination. Very exciting!
This is an austere department store. This Yamagata-ya was founded in 1751. It is said that a kimono merchant was the predecessor of today’s Yamagataya. You can feel the history. I’ll go shopping next time I come back. I hear the store is nice. Let’s go to Meizanbori in Kagoshima City.
Travelogue of Japan’s back alleys The adventure begins! A corner near Minato Odori Park in Kagoshima City. A mix of restaurants and modern shops that retain the atmosphere of the 1950s attracts people. There is a district called “Meizanbori”, a series of downtown drinking establishments.
A row of narrow wooden row houses, a good old downtown from the 50s. I am a back alley maniac. It should be an old town, but it is fresh and nostalgic. Such an emotional place. Strange, isn’t it? It’s messy but clean. Narrow alley, but beautiful. And above all…
I’m tempted to come over and have a drink! There is a nice smell of meat cooking. Let’s go to this pub later. After the shooting is over… 😛 Ahh! I can’t get enough of this! This retro feeling. Exit the alley and hit the main street.
There is such a place only a minute’s walk away. Isn’t it dangerous to go into an alley like this? It’s okay. This is Japan. Safety is guaranteed by Japan Travel. There was a nice park nearby. It feels like coming back to the present. Kagoshima is an interesting place. Interesting places keep popping up.
