【岡山】情緒あふれる紅色の町、吹屋。備中が誇る絶景と日本遺産を巡る。

Sea of clouds! It’s so beautiful. Mountain castle in the sky. “Bicchu Matsuyama Castle” Amazing sea of clouds here. Besides one of the famous places, “Takeda castle” in Hyogo, I think this is a hidden spot. This castle is built on top of the mountain. It’s the highest point of all the mountain castles.

And the only existing castle tower on mountains. Nice autumn leaves. The probability of a sea of clouds is so high here. When called the castle in the sky, Clouds can’t be too low, either too high. I think it was something close to it, not sure though,

But it’s a lot closer to the clouds The mountain was mostly covered. Looks a little bit floating, doesn’t it? When you come to see this view, You have to go to this observatory spot. Not to the Matsuyama Castle. 20 min from castle by car You might go to Matsuyama castle by mistake.

Look up “Bicchu Matsuyama Castle Observation Deck” But over there, You’ll be inside the sea of clouds Maybe nice experience too. So now, we’ll go to the nearby town. Go out for a stroll. Let’s go. Oh, man. A lot of fog. That’s why it looks like a sea of clouds from above Wow!

I can just barely see, not a problem for driving. So amazing. Lucky for us, today’s view! Good thing we waited one day. Oh, I can’t see ahead. It’s already like 8:30 Yeah., wow. I wonder if there will be clouds until noon or so. Might be. Here now. Fukiya Town

It’s famous for a dye called “Bengala”. The lattice, on side of the house, It’s dyed by Bengala. It’s very unified. Since the Edo period, there’s been this town. People unified, the color of this town Just here in Japan, that the residents unified town color. You know, there are many white walls

All over Japan, such as the Bikan area? But Fukiya is a Red town. That’s amazing. And so beautiful. It’s called “Japan Red.” So the red circle of Japan’s flag, Maybe it comes from here? We are now at old Katayama house So magnificent. Such a big Shinto altar. That’s amazing.

The people who used to be great They’re house is displayed. It’s amazing, isn’t it? This family is now for ten generations. This pillar seems to be the highlight It’s called a beam. Because he had money? Yes, one beam is this long They could use one this big.

The staircase was in a hidden door. Such a steep staircase. It’s definitely fun for kids. This is interesting. The height is going up. And the bedrooms, much more up. That’s right. It’s funny. Why? Is there underdrawing or something? Or hiding something? This is it, exactly. Bengala color Very pretty color

This is the Japan red. I like this color Not just bright, but a little pink? A bit scarlet? This vermilion ink we usually use, It’s originated here. I didn’t know that. Familiar color to Japanese. This house is an offshoot. You know, it’s built by a craftsman from Izumo. So, these pillars, too.

It’s a little stylishly made. They had money to call great craftsmen to biuld it That’s great. Actually, it’s painted with Bengala. But it seems to be sensitive to the sun. So turns black, like this. Where it’s not hit by the sun, the redness still remains. I can tell it was colored.

As you go over there, it’s getting redder. Over there, it’s repainted red for tourism. But this area is an important property. They can’t do the same. Red is nice. In other places, White, gray, Black? But not here, its reddish. And the roof tiles. At first, I thought the roof was bengala, too.

But this one is “Sekisyu tile”. They used tiles that are red. Wood, and curtains are where bengala is used. When coloring these are mixed with bengara. Soy milk. Mixing it with soy milk, when dyeing cloths. And for wood, Mixing it with persimmon Amazing. There must be antiseptic effect. Interesting. What a souvenir shop!

Let’s stop by. It’s cute. Nice, souvenir shop. Yeah. Handkerchiefs, T-shirts. Many were dyed with bengara. Chopstick rests Nice bengala paint on them. It was so cute. We, ourselves, bought A Tenugui. Aren’t they cute? Red on white Tenugui is useful, when traveling. Good to have as many as you want. We are collecting.

And here. It’s a photo spot, a post office. It’s pretty, isn’t it? It’s still totally red, by repainting. It’s so beautiful. This is so much better. Of course, it is important, to protect the way it was, but I like this. I was really going for this, Soup curry restaurant…. God it’s closed….

I heard this curry here is really good. Tsukushi. For another chance. We’ll come back someday. I think I see something. That’s great. Isn’t that super stylish? Wow, that’s magnificent. This place has been here since the Meiji era. In 2012, the elementary school closed. In 2012, that means, When we entered college.

So, our classmates were going through Yeah, probably. The last Oldest wooden school building. This was closed in 2012 It looks like we can go inside. Sir! I can’t see the writing! I like this classroom. Hey, the desk is so cute! I can’t believe how relaxing it is. Maybe this one will open?

Oh, it does! When we were in elementary, the drawers came out of from the side and put a toolbox in there. but I like this type of thing. This is like a gymnasium? Nope, I think It’s a place to have the meeting Like an all-school morning meeting? Yup.

I wonder if the principal stood up there. Look, it’s pretty over here. Isn’t this the desk that we know? Yeah, looks like the one we used. Just like this. And when cleaning, we moved the desks, by chairs up, when carrying it. I think this is a recent classroom.

The earlier one, is restored just as the classrooms used to be. Its hurt a lot. Let’s go. Originally a prosperous town with a copper mine. A stone called “iron sulfide ore” can be extracted together with the copper. and that’s what becomes bengala. Someoene just happened to find the know how. Amazing!

How could that happen? Then they got wealth, right? Yeah, isn’t it a miracle? Something you thought you didn’t need. You don’t ever think about using it. That’s great, this way. It’s quite a gutsy mine It says closed. It’s going on, look at the depths. Suddenly it’s open That’s great.

Did they mine this all the way to the top? I think so. Many digging spots. They must have climbed all the way up. Ceiling is low. Oh, it is. I mean, how many holes are there? Similar to Besshi Copper Mine. They dug vertically and horizontally. Many many holes. Oh, dead end,

Its a storage facility now. Liquor? Sure, it’s chilled in here. It’s cool in this mine. It was a lot of fun. It was like exploring a cave. Wearing helmets Otherwise, you’ll hit your head. This is called the Sasaune Tunnel. Discovered a long time ago. It was part of a copper mine (Yoshioka Mine)

The main one seems to be in a different place. This is a branch mine, This is a branch mine, It looks like it’s been mined a lot here, too. The Sakamoto mine is the main one. So I didn’t get to see the main one. But interesting enough. Yeah, it was wide.

There were so many paths. And here, in addition to copper They were able to get a Sulfide ore, that is an item to make bengala. That’s where it was extracted And this town of Fukiya prospered. They got huge wealth. First, trying to make money in copper. Then got something

That became rather an industry, which is great. And they found a way to use it as bengala, right? Interesting. Just happened to make it. It’s raining a bit. Let’s go, next. But just like that I could see again how Fukiya prospered. That was good. It’s not very big, the castle.

It’s not a castle, it’s a house It’s like a castle, really. I’m surprised that this is a person’s house. That’s too much! Showing how much money Bengala makes. They might be targeted. Maybe thats why they build this huge house, one like a castle? Up on top of a stone wall.

Yeah, maybe to avoid being targeted. How rich was he? I have no idea. A suspicious guard room? In a house? Wow. There’s a guard room in a private home. It’s a nice room. A comfortable lookout room. Maho, there it is. That’s the water,, What is it? Says, “Please pour water on the bamboo”

“Put your ear close to the top of the bamboo, so you can hear it better” And the view is amazingly nice. You see that shrine in the back? It’s personalized The shrine. In the past Just for Hirokane family. Shrines enshrined for personal use! That’s a millionaire. Sell the mine and the Roja.

He got wealth. Maybe they did some digging. Maybe. Our minivan is that small! Cute Oh my god…. It’s closed…. SO now at a temple A photogenic spot. Oh, that should be it. From Fukiya, not that far. So stopped by. Very rare to see a white torii gate. I often see red

It’s so beautiful. This is the photo spot in Okayama Beautiful, isn’t it?
