日本100名城 大洲城 伝統工法を用いた木造復元天守 愛媛県 Ozu Castle 2023
Today we will head to Ozu Castle in Ehime Prefecture. Get off at Iyo-Ozu Station. It is about a 30 minute walk from the station to the castle. Let’s look at Ozu Castle from the other side of the Hijikawa River. It is easy to see why the Hijikawa River is called a natural moat.
First, we will go to see the Mowata Yagura Yagura, an important cultural property located along the river. The current turret was rebuilt in 1843. Return to the castle route. After walking for a while, the lower kitchen will appear. The lower kitchen is the only storehouse structure within the castle.
Ozu Castle was built in the 14th century and was transformed into a modern castle by Todo Takatora and Wakisaka Yasuharu. The current castle tower was reconstructed as a wooden structure in 2004 based on materials from the Edo period. What you can see below is the ruins of Ninomaru Palace.
The building in the foreground is a tenement house occupied by the gatekeeper. I will also take a look at the stone wall on the west side. This area used to be an inner moat, but it is now a park. I returned to Ninomaru. Finally, we head to the main enclosure.
The castle tower and the high railing turret. Takaran Yagura was rebuilt in 1860 and is designated as an important cultural property. Another turret connected to the castle tower is the kitchen turret. The kitchen turret was also rebuilt in the Edo period and is designated as an important cultural property.
The stone wall in the field is nice. The restored castle tower of Ozu Castle was originally of a scale that was not permitted under the Building Standards Act. However, it seems that permission was granted to designate it as a preserved building through negotiations with Ozu City.
The combination of the turret, which is an important cultural property, and the restored wooden castle tower is wonderful. Enter the castle tower. Was it like this when the castle was built? Enter the high rail tower. You can see a panoramic view of the castle town of Ozu.
The castle tower seen from the high rail turret. Go up the stairs of the castle tower. You can see Hijikawa clearly. It is a staircase like a ladder. Takaran turret seen from the castle tower. I arrived at the top floor. Kitchen turret seen from the castle tower. After all, this line-up is nice.
There was also a well in the main enclosure. Finally, we will take a look at Sannomaru Minamisumi Yagura, which is located a little further away. This turret is said to be the oldest and was rebuilt in 1766. Thank you for your viewing.
