Since I have to deal with the elements anyway, I hope to get a blizzard or a monsoon because it can lead to some powerful photographs. I made this image of band member @kurtozan251 playing a guitar solo during a torrential downpour in Orange Beach, AL. One way to make cool rain photos involves the camera’s shutter speed. Traditionally, I’d use fast shutter speeds like 1/500 or more at a concert to freeze the action on stage, but when the rain is coming down hard, those fast speeds only show little specs of water. By slowing down to 1/30 or less, the falling water turns into long streaks, which accentuate the severity of the storm. It’s risky because you might have some motion on your subject. In this case, I felt it was worth the risk.”
