Photo by #CanonExplorerOfLight @lindsayadler_photo: “I often look to painterly techniques to help me create timeless portrait and fashion images. The painterly elements can be the color palette, the background, pose, lighting… you name it! For the background of this shot I printed out a painting of Baroque florals to help create visual interest in the scene and then layered in real floral elements to create depth. I didn’t want my image to look flat (a common problem with studio shots), so I created a foreground, middleground and background. Next, I selected the Canon EOS R5 with the Canon RF85mm F1.2L USM so that I could shoot at a wide aperture, kicking some foreground and background elements slightly out of focus (again creating the feeling of depth).
In the behind-the-scenes you can see that I used 3 lights; an umbrella with diffusion as the main light, a strip softbox as a rim light, and another umbrella with diffusion (in the front) as a fill light. The lighting choice and placement again was to help me create depth in the shot.
