Photo by #CanonExplorerOfLight @adam_jones_photo: “This silhouetted bear image was photographed on the last morning of a workshop I led in Lake Clark National Park, Alaska. We were headquartered at Silver Salmon Lodge located within the national park and only a few minutes from where the bears feed daily.

I had my group out early each morning hoping everything would come together to make this iconic image. The female Alaskan brown bear was lying down as we approached in the dim light before sunrise. Just as the sun began to clear the distant horizon, she stood and starting walking toward the large sun ball. Quickly grabbing my EOS R5 and RF100-500mm F4.5-7.1 L IS USM lens off the tripod, I ran to the edge of the stream bank to get low enough to silhouette the bear on top of the nearby horizon line. It’s just a matter of being in the right place at the right time and being prepared when all the elements come together. The EOS R5 delivered the highest percentage of perfectly focused images I’ve ever captured on previous shoots at the same locations.”
