Photo by @joshg_photos: “This is one of my favorite photos. I took this in Laguna Beach, California during a surprise lightning storm in early September 2021.

Most nights for at least a few weeks prior, my photographer friends and I would go out to the various SoCal beaches and film/photograph bioluminescent waves. On this night we had the same plan, but of course plans can change.

On the way to the beach, I could see distant lightning flashes and I was sincerely hoping that a cell would move over the ocean. Sure enough, a few minutes after being there we were awarded with a wondrous light show. I set my camera up, threw it on interval mode and waited.

After I saw this bright bolt, I had a good feeling that I had gotten it. Right away, I checked my photos and I was amazed with what had just been captured. This was my second time ever shooting lightning and I got a perfect single shot. I will always remember this stormy Southern California night and how this image came to be.” #ShotOnCanon
