Photo by #CanonExplorerOfLight @davidbergman: “My radio-controlled Canon speedlites have made it much easier to create complex, studio quality photographs on location while still traveling light (pun intended). To make this image of aerialist Julie Marshall (@juliemarshalldoesthings) between performances at Circus Kirkus (@circuskirkusshow), I placed six small Speedlite 600EX-RTs all around the tent. Three speedlites were for the background – one aimed up to pull some color out of the red tent interior, and two were pointed at the camera to backlight the smoke from a fog machine. I added two speedlites in softboxes behind Julie to create separation, while the key light was in a small, round modifier high up over my head. Then I just added in a talented, upside down performer, and I’ve got a memorable picture using six lights that fit in my carry-on luggage.
