As a skate photographer, I’m always looking to capture a simple photo showing the essence of skateboarding, but most of the time I’m shooting hand rails and stairs and it’s usually something so gnarly that I have to shoot knowing that I will make the skater look like it’s the gnarliest thing.
So when we were walking up the street on a normal summer day in downtown LA, I saw the horizon line at the top of the hill with a perfect blown out backlit sky and I was like, that’s it. I asked @dashawnjordan to simply push across the street. I didn’t use any flash, I just under exposed by 3 stops. This was shot with EOS R5 and RF70-200mm F2.8 L IS USM. I pushed the lens to 200mm to get the perfect composition so I didn’t lose the wheels. Shutter speed was set to 1/2000 to freeze, ISO 400 and F6.3. What I love about photography is that so often, less is more.”
