There is an active pair of nesting barn swallows beneath our front porch arch and the parents dive-bomb anyone coming or going to the front door. I stood on the porch for less than 5 minutes and was repeatedly dive-bombed by these aerial acrobats. Barn Swallows fly incredibly fast and erratically. This male repeatedly flew directly at me and the camera, often within 2-3 ft. I wanted to see if the Canon EOS R5 and RF100-500mm F4.5-7.1 L IS USM combination could possibly track these tiny missiles. This shot was captured about 3-4 feet away, using animal eye tracking. I was totally blown away: the lens and camera combination proved amazingly accurate with a high percentage of images perfectly sharp. The biggest challenge was keeping the fast-moving birds in the viewfinder!”
