“My favorite cultural tradition as an Asian American and Pacific Islander is the importance of family. In Hawaii, family is such a big part of our lives and that can be unique. But here, family doesn’t have to mean blood relatives. Some of the most giving and kind humans in the world live in Hawaii and they will treat you like one of their own. That’s what I love about my home. My mom is one of the most influential and important humans in my life. Her family came from China to Hawaii in 1885 to work in the plantations and farms. She was born and raised here as part of the family’s third generation of full Chinese descent. She has always instilled strong moral values in me, and constantly encourages me to capture my photographs of and in the water. I always make sure to share them with her first, then with the rest of the world.” -@zaknoyle, #CanonExplorerOfLight #apahm
