Find out what’s in #CanonExplorerOfLight @susanstriplingphotography’s gear bag!

“As a wedding photographer, picking a bag of gear isn’t all that simple. You have to be prepared for a million different types of shoots: photojournalism, portrait, action (a wedding is a bit like a sporting event!), and sometimes even food and jewelry. My bag has evolved over the years to include must-have pieces of gear as well as little ‘others’ that make my job easier and more efficient.

To start with: the bodies and lenses. I have two EOS R bodies, an EOS R5 body, and will be adding a second EOS R5 within the next month. As a backup, I also have an EOS 5D Mark IV – you can never be too careful! My RF lenses are the RF24–105mm F4 L IS USM, RF50mm F1.2 L USM, RF85mm F1.2 L USM, RF35mm F1.8 Macro IS STM, and RF50mm F1.8 STM. I also use my beloved EF lenses with the control ring adapter: EF 135mm f/2L USM, EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM, EF 200mm f/2.8L II USM, EF 20mm f/2.8 USM, and EF 70-200mm f/4L IS USM. In addition to that I have two Canon speedlites and two additional studio strobes when I need a bit more light. Rounding out the gear are a Stella Pro and a small Profoto C1 video light.

Now the extras! I always have an extra face mask, two MagMod spheres, a handful of MagMod grids and gels, a small piece of copper pipe, earplugs (receptions get loud!), ball bungees, triggers and receivers for my strobes and flashes, a ThinkTank wallet for my SD/CF cards, a Manfrotto monopod, a LOT of camera batteries, lens wipes, sanitizing wipes, sunscreen, my watch, and an ND filter for my RF50mm F1.2 L USM lens.

The blue pouch at the top left? We jokingly call that our ‘amenities’ bag. It might have a granola bar, allergy medication, a folded up timeline, museum putty, lip balm, safety pins, and all sorts of random things that come in handy on a hectic wedding day.”

Ciao, Nihon.
